Solved Can't Install F4 on New(er) Win10 Computer
-
Hello All,
Been a long time since I was on here. Anyway I have a newer desktop computer with Win10. I have the original Falcon 4 CD however the computer does no have a CD drive. On an older laptop I copied all the files from the CD to a thumb drive then copied those files to my C drive on the new computer. If I run autorun I will get the menu to install F4 but when I press that option I get the blue spinning circle but it goes away and nothing happens. If I try to run setup .exe I get the same blue spinning circle but again it goes away and nothing happens. If I try to run the Falcon4 exe I get the error message that it can’t find ST80W.dll.
I also tried to make an ISO from the original CD but it still doesn’t work. I could go to Steam but money in my wallet is better than money in theirs.
TIA for any help you can offer.
Mac.

For the $6 or so it costs I would simply buy it on Steam and move on…
I know however I’m retired now and on a fixed income and try to save where I can.
Ok, have you tried it in Safe mode?

@Segwin I know you fixed it , so its late now , but just fyi , you could’ve tried with compatibility modes. I’ve had luck even using compatibility for Win95/98 on setup.exe on old cd’s from Win98 era.
Didn’t need safe mode then., as in older win (before win/10) , msi installer service didn’t work in safe mode so it was practically useless for installing anything.
Cheers
