Fallon-Nevada Theater discussion
-
Polak and I briefly worked on a Fallon Theater for Falcon. I still have the raw terrain files uploaded, but I don’t know how to compile them into a tiled terrain. If anyone would like to take a look and compile a terrain, please feel free to do so and post it up.
I think Fallon has a lot of potential for very interesting scenarios.

WARNING: There is NOT a working theater in that folder, just raw files that need to be compiled!

Here is an overview of the theater area:

So, as you can see, it would be a very small theater. The idea would be to create a training area theater, similar to the Korea training area although I haven’t actually flown in that yet in BMS.
There would only be a handful of airfields, but there could be “fake” airfields for training purposes for OCA flights and such. I envision small scenarios in close quarters so that flight times are short and unit density is small enough that people like me, who are overwhelmed in the chaos of Korea, can fly campaign flights that allow you to develop your tactics and situational awareness.
The BMS planeset supports this theater well out of the box as you can use F-16s and Mirages (substitute for Kfir) as aggressors. When/if the Hornet and Tomcat are upgraded there will be outstanding potential for Top Gun type fights of F-14s vs F-5s/A-4s, etc.
With few airbases we should be able to enlist someone like Demer to create a “superbase” with a ton of detail. There are clearly tile-makers that can create excellent desert tiles.
My biggest goal, though, is to make a SMALL theater with FEW objectives and a very TIGHT scope. If it has to be 64 segments then so be it, but only the Fallon area is going to be populated. If it can’t be finished in 6 months or less it’s not worth pursuing.
Finally, if somebody wants to get really crazy, you could create some new models of ground vehicles; think tank and truck hulks and stuff like that. The ground forces wouldn’t move, but would be static hulks that have to be attrited to complete the victory conditions. This is really eye-candy, but might be neat from an immersion perspective.

Mike,
What is different between what you have uploaded and the PMC_Nevada_Theater_v0.5 version?

I created this from scratch using dem2terrain and GIS files I pulled from the internet. There isn’t a single thing even remotely related to PMC anywhere in there.
I’d have made it into a terrain and built the whole thing myself but there are some steps I just don’t understand and I’m tired of trying to figure it out. Eghi (for example) can seem to build a terrain in an afternoon without even trying. So, maybe he or someone like him can take these files and build the terrain and then I can see how feasible my ideas are for a theater.

Sounds amazing and for sure a great training theater! please keep up the good work!

This would be an amazing training theater for all. Hope this project will make it all the way…

You could have a California annexed scenario. Until BMS uses L0 quality resolutions, pursuing this project would only be useful as practice for theater creation.

Surely would be sweet to have a working Nevada Range for training. Thanks to snakeman we have no such thing.

Just as long as you model the Bird Farm in Fallon.
Nickle Blackjack + 50 cent beer = many drunken aviators.

No matter how you slice it there is quite a lot to make a new theater in Falcon. So therefore it is quite a shame that PMC has not joined forces and participated in effort to advance Falcon theaters by offering expertise and all their past work.
PMC theaters are good springboard to make more robust, advanced and detailed F4 theaters, but instead, standing alone and “as is”, they constitute not much value on its own. And having made some good gesture towards F4 community Mr.S would be perhaps even welcomed to plea for help in his possibly dire financial situation with more successful results and reply.
What makes me to say it is shame instead of it is pity, because I am well aware how “cooperatively” he has dealt with FF as well. It is very strange story and case to put so much efforts for so long to preserve Falcon4 legend and in the end throw all that away and go crushing down with the smoke. Sure that from the perspective of some time now it is obvious that his payware move brought him nothing but an infamy and maybe even disrespect.
This is about Nevada though……

Snakeman: we are not going to bail you out, but do the right thing and release those theaters to BMS.

@Toonce: If you want … I can give you the intial UI conversion for Nevada + campaigns introduction video (I’ve made only one IIRC?) Up to you to modify it as you wish… Just tell me.
@Red Dog: Can I give your Neveda map included ?

@Red Dog: Can I give your Neveda map included ?
Well yes. Not sure it would be useful since it might not match the new boudaries and it’s far from being finished since it’s only the backround map with terrain and latitudes and longitudes.
My next step was to place airbase and MOAs but that was put to a standstill with the PMC fiasco.I’m dearly looking forward to finish this map and have such a practise terrain for BMS, so yeah, if my help is needed, consider it done.
I’m looking forward to finish that map indeed.
It’s not the latest one but you get the picture (teh last one is in Deejay’s UI conversion above) -
It appears that Nevada theater is more advanced than we all thought. I have made quite a few textures for Nevada including entire Las Vegas, that was just before toonces came with idea of Fallon range. So to save my older work I thought that making theater centered on both Fallon and Nellis would be quite interesting. Unfortunately 32 seg would not be able to encompass both it must be 64seg size. ATM project of making tiles for Nevada, went on the shelf. Again there must be one person who has a time and is willing to put it together.
