It would be great, I never had chance to try any helo sim from '90s except Hind.
Oh I wish that was also one i always wanted

You know, I think the OP has probably got one of the better Thanks-to-Post ratios on the BMS forums at this point!

Is this mod compatible with OS X natively? The GOG version seems to just have Falcon 3.0 in dosbox so I was hoping I can use this mod on OSX as I can download the 4.0 exe file.

New gog-user here :).
Who would of known. All of the sudden ppl are coming in just cause of gog. Like the previous state and prices where holding ppl back from enjoying BMS.
It was holding back, at least me; the need to find a CD copy on right side of Atlantic (or pay double for shipping), the much higher price, the need to buy a version of CD that will work with BMS (without prior knowledge of Falcon 4.0 versions, except that at least one, Allied Force, is not-compatibile), no guarantee that it all won’t fail due to some small stupid error (shipping, buying wrong CD, having not read enough FAQs to notice it still won’t work for me because of some obscure exception) - all this made getting BMS to work to bothersome and to risky to try for complete newcomer. I found out about mods existence more than year ago, checked availability of CDs shipping to where I live, left it for later and went back to what I was flying. As far as I was concerned, BMS was best suited for old F4 fans who were already motivated to fly it and knew their way around; less so for people like me, coming from other sims and wanting to check it out in relative safety.
Gog releasing it changed everything - reliable delivery system, affordable price, people from your community present on gog forums from day one to let me know this version will work with BMS S! made me buy it in hours from release. No more excuses not to try it.

Bit of a necro, and perhaps slightly off-topic as there isn’t any news on Falcon 4.0 yet, but I just discovered that approximately 19 hours from now, so probably around 1700Z Jan. 8th, the first versions of Falcon will also be available on Steam.
So far, no pricing on any and as said, no sight on Falcon 4 (though there are already requests for it, so people can use it to fly BMS). As Steam is most likely better known and used more than GOG, it might bring a whole new (type of) audience to Falcon and in extension BMS, which is why I thought it was relevant enough to share here.
-
Mmm. Dunno how to feel about that. Steam is an audience of gamers mostly. As opposed to simmers.
-
Simmers are serious gamers. We r not simming cause of real piloting training, we are simming for hobby, thus play, most of us started that way.
-
…I for one, am simming because of real pilot training. And/or to augment it. Anyway, I’m a licensed pilot and I can fly a virtual Viper a lot cheaper and easier that I could get my hands on a real one. But I always approach BMS and any flight sim (or other sim, really) from and with a RW mindset because I am a RW pilot.
In fact, I first came across Falcon on the job…and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Yeah, I think this applies to most folks XD
-
As I got and am getting deeper into this madness I’m surprised at just how many different sims there actually are out there - not just flight sims, but sims in general. My own thing is aircraft, but I admire the craft of this sort of stuff as applied by and to anything.
Given just how much time, effort, expertise, and care the developers have put into BMS I’m a bit put off that anyone that is really into it can think of it as a “game”. It’s really so much more.
-
My comment regarding steam was more to do with the kind of threads you see on the steam forums than anything else. F4 being on steam would ultimately attract more of that kind of poster here.
Of course, broadening the user base is not necessarily a bad thing, exactly. I do recall folks being concerned about the same thing happening with KSP when they had a steam release, and a lot of forum members referred to it as the ‘endless september’. I stand by my statement - Im not sure whether I think having F4 on steam would be an improvement or not.

I’m all for spreading the word as wide as possible…but I’m also for holding onto the faith!

Well Stevie work is something you do for a living most of the time and you don’t like it always.
Simming gaming hobby you do it always because u like it. If it’s on top priority then you are devoted to it with more professionalism then your actual profession.
There was and a study about the same case as Bms team and why they are excellent on it. Cause they have fun doing it like they play a game.
You live to work or you work to play? -
See this is the reason people are convinced pilots dont work Arty. Because they are doing something they love - or they are in the wrong profession.
My dad has the same opinion as you, which is why he says he doesnt work. He gets up in the morning and says he is off to play… There is no better career, than to somehow convince someone to pay you to do something you would have done for free, or paid to do, anyway.
Clearly the correct answer is that some folks live to play!
-
Perhaps calling BMS or any kind of simulators(non-professional use one) a “game” sometimes sounds as if he or she underrating it.
However, Most advanced "game"s nowadays are also developed with so much effort and expertise by its developers, and I think most of them are recognizing sims as one of those admirable works when they call those sims a “game”.
They might not think sims are the something so much more than “game”, but they think “game” is something so much more. -
It would be great, I never had chance to try any helo sim from '90s except Hind.
Did someone say Longbow 2?
http://www.old-games.com/download/4326/longbow-2I cannot vouch for the rights of this website owners but I have purchased a few flight sims from the site and they seem to run OK
