Pico 4 experience and settings

I also recommend to go for a USB 3 cable and use USB tethering. This solved every issue for me.

@Razor161 I find that wireless streaming with VD is superior to Pico Streaming Assistant connected with USB. Both performance and the visuals are better, but USB connection at least makes the Pico software usable. The Streaming Assistant isn’t very well developed IMO.
Your comment is very general. Tell us more about your setup and settings, and what issues you’ve had.

@ipetter
Virtual Desktop + USB3 cable + USB tethering (activated via an app found on APKPure).
I run VD on ultra rendering setting.
My system:
Ryzen 7 7700X
AMD 6800XT
32 GB RAM -
@Razor161 Thanks… A bit more info on this app and how to setup would be most welcome, if someone else wants to try it I’ve heard about this before, but haven’t looked into the details of it.
Users should note that VD with a tethered connection is officially unsupported.

@ipetter
I’m in the office right now and can not check which app exactly I installed but I think it was this one
https://m.apkpure.com/de/hotspot-and-tethering-shortcut/com.pw.hotspotshortcutThe workflow is simple:
- Connect the Pico 4 to your wifi.
- Activate USB tethering using the app (Approve the connection if Windows asks if you want to use the new connection).
- Connect VD (works only on wifi).
- Disable wifi (Pico will shift all network traffic to tethering automatically)
- Run the game.
In case you lost internet connection on your PC after the network connection switched to tethering you need to change the network priority for your network adapter to a value which is lower than the tethering adapter. Here’s a guide for it:

I forgot to tell that I am currently using a laptop and it has 3060 on it. I cannot increase resolution above HD (in Streaming Assistant which means 1x native resolution). I assume that you all have a better GPU than me and use above 1x resolution?
-
Have you tried increasing the in game resolution…
set g_fVRResolution 1.5
To compensate for the barrel distortion created by lenses, the recommended setting is around 1.4 (140%) of the native resolution of the headset. Also check your steam VR settings, as it normally sets its ‘100%’ to be 140% of native (around 3024 for pico). A bit confusing I know.
Also as many folk say above, VD its superior to SA (if your budget stretches to the 20 bucks), and gives you more quality options.

@Fish44 Thank you for the tip. I am gonna try it. But I am not sure if my RTX 3060(laptop) can handle 3024p, especially in an intense TE or campaign.
For VD, I don’t wanna buy it right now because of other reasons. I am temporarily away from my home. So I don’t wanna buy a router at the moment. But, maybe I can finally get VD and try USB tethering.

@TUAF-Ripper
You can give it a try in the benchmark TE. There you have bad weather, clouds, rain, thunderstorm and lightning. This should be a good test. -
@TUAF-Ripper I highly doubt it… I’d start with shadows and environment mapping off in BMS. Set VD to medium or high settings, sharpening 70%, SSW off. Then try the Benchmark TE. 40FPS or more on the ground and I’d be happy.
Only after verifying this would I start tweaking the BMS resolution or upping VD graphics. You’ll probably see similar or slightly worse performance than I reported earlier in the thread.
Object detail down to 1 is a quick way to increase performance, if you can live with reduced spotting distance (especially on larger planes and bridges). This can be somewhat compensated by going up on BMS resolution multiplier, to 1.3 - 1.4.

Well, you won’t know until you try, and you might be pleasantly surprised.

Does anyone have experience if RTX3050 (laptop) can support Pico 4? My system is:
My system:
Intel i7 7 12700
NVidia RTX3050
16 GB RAMMany thanks.

Yes, it will work for you.
I was using the Pico 4 so far with a 1070 Ti, and it worked reasonably well, albeit at 70 Hz, and with all the settings to maximise fps (out shadows, water, cockpit reflections, etc).
Of course, with Virtual Desktop. That’s basic. -

@TUAF-Ripper Quest2 works without such a tweak…I recommend Quest 2. You can read MFDs.
I have Pico 4 and use it with BMS 437 as well as all other flight sims of the last many years and I have had zero issues with reading anything in the cockpit, no tweaks or anything else necessary. One thing I do know is that it is far superior to Quest 2 as far as graphics is concerned.
Switching from Pico 4 to Quest 2 in the same session is like going from Quest 2 to Rift CV1 would be.
Since I got Pico 4 I have only used my Quest 2 once, when I was charging the Pico.*should perhaps add that I’m using an RTX4080 and an i5 9600k @4.5GHz with 32GB DDR4

Same experience here going from reverb G1. Pancake lens is the way to go

@Fresco Thank you for your reply. Your reply helps a lot. My Pico will arrive tomorrow.

@bluesharp Hey Bluesharp
Did you get the Pico? How are they working for you?
f you’re on a tight graphics budget, how you adjust the settings is critical.
