Unsolved [VR] HMCS Alignment Broken
-
When spawning into a session the HMCS is not aligned (evidenced by the HMCS blanking right of the HUD). After a coarse alignment is completed successfully the HMCS continues to have the same gross alignment error. This unfortunately renders the HMCS unusable for nearly all A-G/A-A tasks except to consume the most basic heading/alt/airspeed information.
Video provided for evidence.

@MandolinHarm which headset? Pimax on large FOV/parallel projections unchecked seems like it can still have base single eye display alignment issues above and beyond HMCS. With some settings, this can be seen with mouse cursor being grossly off where it actually clicks (FFI cursor area actually clicks middle ICP buttons).

@Snake122 Hi, correct this is on a Pimax 8KX large fov, PP OFF.
-
@MandolinHarm do you have the mouse cursor issue as well?
Try normal FOV first, if not fixed then also check parallel projections. I get the the normal FOV is a bummer, but still bigger than other headsets. The parallel projections will have a performance hit but often the only way to completely get rid of the issues.
@MaxWaldorf you may want to move this to Pimax sub forum, it’s unique to it as far as I can tell. BMS is still not playing well with its wide aspect ratio VR

@Snake122 That unfortunately doesn’t resolve the issue and presents another issue entirely. For the same reasons as when you suggested to utilize parallel projections here on 4.37 (pre U1): https://forum.falcon-bms.com/post/360548 it is just not possible. The world scale is entirely off and the stereoscopic 3D is completely broken. There is simply no percent (not 125%, not 120%, nothing. And trust me, I went 1% by 1% to find the correct scale) that fixes the scaling issue with PP off. Playing on normal FOV also does not resolve the issue.
I don’t think there is anybody playing BMS on an 8KX that is using PP ON in order to resolve issues, it’s even more unplayable with PP OFF & alignment issues than PP ON and world scale/stereoscopic 3D issues. Definitely hope the BMS devs can take the time to figure out what is going on with Pimax headsets.
Note: With PP OFF after Update 1 the mouse cursor is largely functioning correctly with only one or two buttons that are not clickable where they should be.

@MandolinHarm there are a few in the Pimax sub forum that are. But yes, that doesn’t surprise me. I wasn’t sure if normal FOV alone would fix it and unfortunately I as I remember it now, I agree that parallel projections in my experience is the only fix for the issues but then you have a huge performance hit.
I have stopped using my Pimax even before U1 and was going to go my general VR games headset of the Quest 2 and then luckily got a great deal on a gently used Reverb G2. There are times I miss the Pimax 's wide view for sure (even normal FOV is larger), but most of the time I appreciate the G2’s better PPD making it be clearer.

@Snake122 let’s see how that topic goes…
-
@Snake122 Are you sure? I see some people in the Pimax forum using Normal FOV but I don’t see a single person reflecting that they decided to use PP ON (likely for the issues I mentioned above.).
I’ve used both. The way I see it - VR is about immersion. And immersion is a result of both FOV & Resolution (combined). If resolution was the most important facet I’d just grab an 8K monitor and call it a day. At this moment in time only the 8KX manages to balance both of those factors.
Really hope the team can fix the issue. U1 made a huge improvement at least with the HUD being projected correctly and being able to click switches where they are located. Maybe U2 will fix the alignment issue (fingers crossed!)

@MandolinHarm yes a few have which why directed you there, but it really seems that normal FOV and Parallel projections checked is the only way to get everything displaying properly on my system. Then you get the performance hit and some graphics issues. I actually now think @Korbi has still possibly have his Falcon BMS PiTool settings still overridden by the defaults and is running normal FOV/PP checked. That’s why I asked him and anyone to post his SteamVR resolution so I could see the aspect ratio. The difference is quite noticable between normal and large FOV and then also parallel projections checked/unchecked.
While I agree U1 fixed the HUD issues, I’m actually surprised you can click on anything at all with large FOV and unchecked parallel projections. I can’t remember which specifically, but one of those still in U1 makes my mouse cursor way off to the right as I mentioned, related to the same issue you are seeing with the HMCS since both of those are projected on the right eye side only.
Yes, as a long time triple/big screen user and knowing how much the peripheral vision can add to certain things in RL flight, I love my 8Kk X in the other sim. My favorite flat screen experience FWIW was a U shaped triple 55" 4K TV setup I played with for a little bit, so big FOV is important to me. The 8K X is not as clear as the G2 as I mentioned, but still noticably a step up from the Quest 2. When BMS has it working I will most likely switch back to it and take the extra FOV over for a small detail hit for the reasons you throw out there.
