Solved Missing Airbases
-
In all these years, I’ve never dealt with this before. In fact, in the past 3 years or so, crashes were extremely rare. Then this:
I had been running a stock KTO (no mods) Rolling Fire for about 12 hours. I ran the 35th FS out of Gunsan, fragging my own packages.
Last night, I fragged a 2-flight package of 2-ships each (STRIKE/ESCORT) to an underground factory far to the north. I saved it and went to bed.
Today, I called it up, but the 2D map was all weird. No factories showed, no airbases, and no Air Defense units. I right-clicked-- they were all checked, but not displayed. So I unchecked and re-checked, but they still didn’t show. All other units (both sides) were showing on the map.
Out of curiousity, I tried to frag a new flight to a new target, but the UI said there was no Airbase (!!!???).
When I exited the campaign, the program crashed directly to desktop.
I repeated this several times, same scenario. I tried to start a NEW Rolling Fire, but there were NO fighter squadrons listed, and NO airbases showing on a grayed-out map.
This has never happened before, and I’m not sure how to deal with this. I have several *.dmp files that were created during all this. Any input would be appreciated.
Edit: I’m sure I’m not doing this right, but here’s the last dmp file in text:

I did a complete re-install and that did the trick. First and hopefully last time I had to do that, but I still hope you look at the DMP file to see if I somehow abused clicks to the point that I inadvertently caused an uncommon or unanticipated coding-related crash.
Thanks for all the help.

I have several *.dmp files that were created during all this. Any input would be appreciated.
Looks like some corrupted files, but please zip the dmp and share them via gdrive/mega/…

@SoBad
Woopsie. Such error on save0 , start new campaign.Definitely like Tumbler said … possible!? disk/file corruption… SSD ? How old? Sata cable/connector ? … the list goes on.
Did you check already with “chkdsk g: /f” ?

Thanks in advance for input/suggestions.
Chkdsk reports no issues with Drive G
I run several other virtual drives on that SSD (D:, E:, F:, L:, M: R:, S:) with no issues on any of them in this same time period.
I will completely uninstall, reinstall, and try again, but I still think there might be a code problem somewhere, because this issue did not come up in my campaign run for many days until I right-clicked and unchecked, rechecked Airfields and Air Defenses and Production. Then and ONLY then did those three categories suddenly and immediately disappear from the 2D map, the OOB, and several other places, including trying to start a new campaign.
Thanks again. I will follow-up with my re-install status, which I hope/expect will be fine.

@SoBad
Good it worked, reinstall. (and REALLY good it is not drive)
This is really 1st time to hear something like this, serious, happened.
Only way to explain was something badly/erroneously written and ‘destroyed’ contents of campaign/user dirs.
Without closer look… hard to say.
As BMS, NEVER writes to save0-5… never. can’t explain.
Otoh, ‘User’ map options,… that is commonly written, so if something badly executed in ram then saved… possible but unlikely. - never happened to me since 20 years.
… well a bit less, as it was me who asked saving those map options could be saved, was implemented, long time ago… BMS did not have that at first, you had to apply all map options every timeNow if Tumbler will see something. I hope so… this is so isolated case… but probably most critical, I’ve ever seen.
Cheers

Yes, good for me it wasn’t a bad SSD or chkdsk issue.
That leaves a file somehow messed up by my actions. I’m convinced now that I brought this issue on by clicking the right/wrong settings in the right/wrong sequence at the right/wrong time. Some screwy unexpected input sequence that the code didn’t account for. In other words, I think it’s reproduceable, however unlikely. I will very interested in seeing if @Tumbler31 looks at the DMP file and has an epiphany.
-
Nice to hear you fixed the issue. The dmp won’t tell of course how the data got corrupted, so do let me know if this happens more often
-
@white_fang - BTW, I forgot to mention appreciation on behalf of all users for getting saved map options as a feature. Real time saver, that one…
Now if you could just get them to restore a much earlier feature of the 2D map zooming in to the mouse cursor position, that would be a real time/convenience saver, too.
Just throwing it out there because you seem to have a lot more influence than I do!

@SoBad
Hehe, my bad Thanks.
But I didn’t come up with it out of thin air, I was playing Falcon: Allied Force first, and there it had that option , … BMS didn’t , so that was that.
Also, need to thank to devs, they’ve chosen to listen/ and include it. (I guess it was common sense that prevailed)Cheers
