Solved Can't seem to generate/find briefings
-
Until yesterday, I’ve always appended debriefs to ‘debrief.txt’, but I’ve never enabled file generation for briefings.
I decided to enable that function to see what info it included, so I started up F4Patch, checked all the brief/debrief checkboxes (so I would also get a *.HTML formatted briefing), saved, and confirmed the updated settings in falcon bms.cfg.
So I’ve flown 3 flights since then, and I can’t find a briefing.txt or briefing.html. As always, however, my debrief.txt file was appended as expected.
I did a Windows search of my entire \Falcon 4.37\ game folder with no luck.
I did a search in this forum for ‘briefing.txt’ and found only one post that didn’t help.
Am I overlooking something obvious?

Did you hit the “Print” button on the briefing screen? I’m pretty sure you have to click that.

All these years, I don’t I’ve ever even seen that [Print] button up there. I guess that I assumed (yeah, I know…) that if the debrief file was generated automatically, then the briefing file would be handled similarly.
So, BMS Devs, this begs the question:
If I’ve enabled both ‘Brief to File’ and ‘Debrief to File’ in F4Patch, then why do I have to explicitly print a briefing screen, but the debriefing screen is generated automatically? Why the inconsistency???
But dude, thanks for pointing it out. Really.

@SoBad I’m sure it’s just lingering 1998-era code / decision decisions.
It’s hard to remember just how space-constrained HDDs were…

@SoBad Keep in mind that several 3rd party tools use the briefing.txt - EZBoards and Icer’s Helios profile.
I think they both monitor the folder/file for changes so it wouldn’t make any difference, I think, but personally, clicking the “Print” button is part of my workflow: as every time I open the Briefing screen doesn’t mean I want to update images etc.
