what is best setting for BMS?

I keep crashing in multiplayer of Middle east campaign just when approaching target because of memory shortage. So I am just wondering if there is a best setting before trying to buy an expensive hardware pr pc for that matter. Thank you in advance.
Graphic cars: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 Version 471.41

@Alfred I would expect the devs would be asking you for a crash log.
I followed the installation instructions, so now I have a Falcon4 BMS.exe folder in the registry. Does that mean next time I experience CTD the folder will be filled with some crash log?
-
@Alfred Did you read the linked thread?
-
@Atlas not the discussions but the instructions, why?
-
Ok, then just run Falcon BMS again and be ready to share the logs when asked.
Might also be best to try MP in other campaigns to see if the behaviour occurs there or it may be a campaign/theatre issue and not necessarily BMS.
-
@Atlas so now I have DumpFolder shows c:\dump under Data but I can’t see this folder anywhere, and
DumpType is set to 2 per the instructions. Also, DWORD is set to 0 -
@Alfred I know you stated not investing money but getting 16 GB ram would definitely help. Your computer specs are very outdated unfortunately.

so just get 16GB and install it?

Best settings for your computer is turn all eye candy off in config.exe and in UI. You are barely over minimum specs. Wouldn’t hurt to up your virtual memory either. On computers that have 8 GB of RAM, the suggested paging file size is 16 GB
-
@Alfred the 8Gb of RAM is marginal, but if I only had $100 to spend, I think you’d be better served by upgrading to a GPU with 4 Gb of VRAM.
the GTX 680 only has 2 Gb … BMS 4.37 uses about 3-4 Gb (depending on screen resolution and various graphics settings)
which means 1-2 Gb are spilling over into system RAM… so net net, upgrading graphics memory will also reduce memory-pressure on your system overall
I think 8 Gb is “enough” (barely) for 4.37, if you have 4+ Gb of VRAM … and if you close all your web browser windows… not running Discord, and not recording or streaming etc.
for anything like that, you will want 16 Gb … indeed I think there are other modern games which flat out require 16 Gb now

My advice: RAM is so cheap and plentiful in this modern age of 64-bit computing… set pagefile to zero/none – just buy more RAM.
I can’t imagine ever wanting my OS kernel to be swapping memory to/from disk, while gaming.
The entire concept of pagefile was from an era when PCs had ~10 Mb (not Gb!) of RAM.
I’m old enough to remember that time… but it’s difficult to remember how we ever tolerated that. (HDDs were so much slower, and smaller, then, too!)
I also recommend turning off Superfetch and Readyboot … more short-sighted stuff we built in early 2000s, when typical RAM on laptops was around 256-512 Mb and the OS was outgrowing that – but nobody ever went back and re-rationalized things like that in the 20 years since. (Is it still enabled on Win11? not sure, haven’t checked.)
-
For sure pagefile is desperation mode and will cause stutters. RAM upgrade will get him by until the next update which will likely push that system over the edge once and for all. Time for a new videocard as well.
-
ok guys thank you very much, I am going to upgrade to 16BG of RAM, upgrade VRAM to XXX & upgrade the video card as well. Will that suffice for now and later for 4.38!
-
@Alfred it will help for sure but if I could recommend you something, that would be investing in a new computer. It’s severely outdated.
-
@b0bl00i it’s interesting that it can still run BMS 4.37U2 very smoothly in TE & built TEs. But unfortunately not campaigns. You are probably right though, I might as well get a new pc for gaming, in this case for BMS. That might take a while.
-
@Alfred
TE’s are (often) very low on AI units. When you run the campaign, there’s a lot of units that drive processing power and memory requirements up a lot compared to localized TEs.
There’s no need to buy anything over the top but a modern multicore cpu (AMD or Intel), 16-32 GB ram (ram is quite cheap these days) and a decent GPU, perhaps 2080 or 3060) will last you for years. You can probably buy a used computer as well with OK specs for quite a low figure.
-
@b0bl00i thank you for the the recommendations, some PCs with the same specs can go for cheaper price. Will that make it run for 4.38? will there be any fundamental changes in F4 graphics to match micro soft flight 2020? I think I really would like to see a google map application for free flights of the F-16.
-
@Alfred minimum graphics card for 4.38 is being floated as an 8 GB card. That should give you a rough idea anyway. No computer could run MSFS 2020 graphics combined with BMS. Sorry.
