WIP: JA37 Viggen
-
A short story of the Viggen in Falcon.
Around 2004 a Swedish guy (‘Swede’) was making a high-poly 3D model of the Viggen for M$F$. I have been in contact with him and he also had a previous, more low-poly model of the aircraft. It was intended for use in a professional simulator, but for some reason the deal was cancelled. He granted permission to use that model in FreeFalcon. Two versions have been made in FF: the AJS37 (the most upgraded attack version) and the JA37 fighter, also in the most upgraded Di version. It’s certainly not my sole job: many people have been contributing to these models like Hustler, BaldEagle, Pumpyhead, Weezer, Qawa, Aragorn, Donky, Asa Oden, RAM22, 611-Eagle and I’m sure I’m forgetting people. In FF both versions are fully functional, within of course the limitations of Falcon code, with dedicated weapons and cockpits.
When OF came out, I got permission from all IP holders to offer the Viggen files for use in OF. For some reason, the 3D models and skins were included, but not flyable. That’s probably the reason why the AJS37 is even now the first item in the Tactical Reference in BMS.
And now in BMS. Luckily the 3D models are already in BMS, though there has a lot to be done to make them flyable here too. All permissions for use of existing FF files are granted. 611-Eagle has done a great job by converting the DXM files to LOD and further improving the 3D models of both the AJS37 and the JA37. The first priority was the JA37. The main reason was that the weapons used by the JA37 are already in BMS: SkyFlash, Aim-9M and Aim-120c. Ram22 has spent a lot of time searching for the right racks and adding the weapons. In the meantime, mAXpOWER has joined the project and is contributing too, to improve the model and the realism factor further. Atm we are busy with different things, like realistic chaff/flare data, flight model, lights and other stuff. And Ram22 tries to find some time to work on the AJS37
A big wish is a dedicated cockpit in BMS, but for the moment the standard F-16 cockpit with a Viggen ‘shell’ (the right 3D model if you look over your shoulders in the cockpit) would already be a big improvement. Atm you see F-16 wings although you fly the Viggen.
There is a lot more to be told, this is meant as a short introduction.I also want to say thanks to Richard at RBDesign.se for letting us use his Thunderpack to make the engine sounds and some cockpit sounds for the Viggen.
Cheers

No time to tell big stories atm, I’m heading for the FSweekend at the Aviodrome (some pictures of last year here: http://www.viperpits.org/smf/index.php?topic=7242.msg99167#msg99167) www.fsweekend.com.
Good work on the rpm (resembles the real JA37 figures), sounds and flares!

News on the JA37:
- Cemil has removed the (faulty) light under the nose section. It’s there on the AJS37, but not on the JA37.
- Together with mAXpOWER I’m working on the flight model. We’ve begun to add the effect of a big delta wing, but for some reason it won’t fly as fast as it should: max Mach 2 at 36,000 feet and Mach 1,2 at sea level. It stays at Mach 1.0 and 0.98. Still some work to be done.
Btw, does anyone know what the value typAC means in the dat file? (yes, aircraft type, but what do the values represent and influence?)
-
The typAC and typEngine have been sorted, thanks. The FM is improving but not yet how Max and I want it to be. Pumpyhead is examening the 3D model to add it to the BMS database. Apart from the cockpit, all is going well so far

Forgot to ask, what is the nDof presently??

I haven’t mentioned it yet: Max has tweaked the sounds. JA37 will come with dedicated cockpit and (outside) engine sounds.

Well that’s sort of curious. When I have imported the current model and update the parent, it puts the nDof at 61???
Brian

Also need the nSwitch setting please.

Anything else? Btw, this is the JA37, not the AJ37.

And the new external sounds:

Not right now, but I have the model installed that you sent, I have the DB set the way you show and I have no gear showing. Usually that is a sign of a nDof/nSwitch issue.
You sure I have the right model??

Brian, if you edit the model in LE you can choose UPDATE PARENT RECORD from the drop-down menu. This assures that LE updates the nDof, nSwitch to the proper numbers.

Yeah I know, I did that(do it will all replacements, most of the time, lol) , it set the nDof at 61 and the nSwitch at 20, and then when I seen that the gear was missing I asked Fritz what he had for nDof and nSwitch and they were totally different.
So I tried to update it manually and still no joy. That’s why I posted up if Fritz was sure I had the current correct model.
Is this model the correct one?? AJS-37 vE1 dated 11/1/2011
Actually it’s AJS-37 vF dated 11/2/2012, I just imported and replaced it again and still the nDof is 61 and nSwitch is 20 after Update Parent Record??? Not sure whats going on. LE 6.2.3.3.
