Should I go for VR??? Pico4 vs Quest 2/3
-
Hi there,
I’m considering getting a VR set for BMS using my current PC settings:Ryzen5 3500 (3’59Ghz)
32 GB RAM
GTX 1660TiWill it run well in VR???, I like Pico 4 or Quest2 or maybe 3
Kind regards

@cebraasesina that was a very similar setup to what i had, with quest 2, to get visually where you need it to see bullseye on mfd ect, fps was in the 15~20 not playable
Upgraded to ryzen 7 5800x and rtx 3060ti its playable but still only 35 fps on averqge. -
@cebraasesina my understanding is that most if not all of the headsets that you mentioned use a compression/decompression video transfer mode that eats into resources. Your pc looks like it would struggle with VR anyway and so I’d suggest a “native” pc headset that uses a direct display port connection. I’d recoomend something a bit older like a rift s which is a) display port driven and b) doesn’t have a super high resolution. Higher resolutions are going to tax your already underpowered system.
But yes, if you can I’d suggest trying VR. It’s all I use.

You will struggle with VR due to your system.
Have to agree MCDeedle has given really solid advice (recommending Rift S)

@cebraasesina I’m assuming this is the same as the question on discord. A native PCVR like the rift s will perform much better with your gpu. I have a 1080ti which is a more capable gpu, and have tested the quest 2 with it. It’s ok, quite usable, but I have stuck with my rift s until I can get a better gpu, as the rift s runs at native refresh rate (80hz/fps) at high super sampling. I also use reshade with CAS to make everything a bit sharper.

No, it will not, sorry. As for the Pico, it seems they are leaving VR so to me its a dead-end (as is the HP G2), to choose between those two I would go Quest 3, just be sure to immediately chek for dead pixels upon its arrival…

Hi
In my opinion GPU performance is a major point for an enjoyable/playable VR experience. If your FPS gets to low (<60 fps) (no matter which headset) it starts to loose a lot of it’s immersiveness. It’s the same thing with low resolution (to boost the frame rate) and the fact, that you will have big effect on graphics quality (readability of MFD and numbers, kneeboard, etc).
In conclution: You have to think about getting a complete new hardware setup otherwise the weakest element in the chain will tear your VR experience down. Otherwise with just a good headset you may get very disappointed…
I run a valve index with a RTX 4090 and before I had a RTX 2080Ti and made the upgrade because of VR implementation in Falcon with 4.37. Now I use about 60% of the 4090 for the index. Soon I will go for an Quest 3 to get more out of my VR setup…
May there is a way, that you can try somewhere how it is before you make big investments…

Yes I also agree with the guys above. You should save up more money and do a full PC upgrade. Maybe go with a 40 series card. Plus you must keep in mind that when 4.38 comes out you might have saved enough money to get a nice VR headset.
I am sure in a year there will be better headset out or maybe by the time 4.38 is out.

Thank you all!!!.. I’ll save for another Xmas at least
