Unsolved [4.37.3] Campaign Files - Brigade Link Issue
-
Hello,
Currently, we are flying a campaign with several pilots where we are heavily influencing the ground conflict and giving manual orders to several ground units. There were some CTDs and we assume to isolate the cause around Supply Battalions. When we looked into the data, we could see that there were missing links to Brigades in the area of Supply and some Air Defense Battalions: (marked orange)
Here the view on a single battalion:
Therefore, I have now revised all campaign files and corrected the missing Links and Unit Flags. As you can see, all entries in Mission Commander (Version 0.5.29.763) are displayed correctly again. The CTDs have not reappeared until now and our first tests have shown that the modified Brigades and Battalions still behave correctly:
Note
No units were added or deleted.
This is not an official patch from the BMS team.
Thanks to Falcas for Mission Commander - still a great tool.ZIP Archive includes original files (“Backup”) and the new ones (“save.cam - Brigade Link Correction”) .
Feel free to use.
Cheers,
Nick -

How do you correct the missing links and unit flags?

Would be good to get the CTD export to make sure this is not a placebo effect…

I know what are you talking about, but how batt -> brigade (support) links got broken, can’t say, …maybe because of units export / re-import, or any kind of saveX file (units) editing …
These “support” (airdefence -> brigade , supply -> brigade) links are fairly new, from 4.37 (4.36?) ,I’ve seen that in the recent past (U1/U2) when I was working on my save0 … but, eh, can’t remember how links become lost.
eg., maybe, Assigned some battalion , then changed brigade somehow, for example, deleted it … that will result in link lost… but just reassign that battalion to another brigade…
(yes , at present still you can’t remove assigned battalion support from brigade , but you can re-assign , or delete the battalion)- ONE! , other thing , see pic, … “SUPPORT” order stands for “fire support” and is not for supply battalions , but for any kind of artillery, guns, missile, mlrs .
It is best to use “RESERVE” , then GTM will assign the action when needed
Cheers
- ALSO!! , @Falcas said that best practice is to NOT have supply and/or engineer battalions in brigades , but in single battalions …
Airdefence battalions can be in brigades BUT!, NOT the ones that are “supporting” the other brigade … that one must be single battalion.
-p.s. AAAAAH … I recalled , how support links get broken… eg , You’ve created support link for some battalion , then you put that battalion inside brigade … then link gets broken … as battalion cannot be part of 2 brigades.
It was something like that… give or take - ONE! , other thing , see pic, … “SUPPORT” order stands for “fire support” and is not for supply battalions , but for any kind of artillery, guns, missile, mlrs .

Airdefense can be in separate btl, just like supply and enginners?
If i create a brigade for airdefense, there should be ONLY airdefense in that brigade right? -
Not crucial, but preferred. So when brigade gets “AIRDEFENCE” order , all battalions participate in manner.
Eg, you can put SHORAD/AAA , or HQ battalion , with brigade containing SA-10 , SA-11/17, SA-15 , etc…Take care when unmovable sam battalion, SA-2, SA-3 , SA-5 … but is ok to experiment - SA-15 protects SA-2 for example (they are in the same brigade).
But don’t mix typical brigade -> battalion link , with this “support link” mentioned in the OP.
This is special link, as I’ve mentioned above.
It is for adding supply/airdefence to a brigade as an “external battalion” - NOT in the same brigade , but linked to it as its support., useful to add eg. SA-15 battalion to some Armoured brigade for protection.
Or Nato counterpart, “Avenger” battalion to some M1A1 Brigade.
And also, adding some supply battalion to a brigade. - again, that battalion is NOT part of the same brigade … but can be part of same division, or not, doesn’t matter.
