Kneeboard options?

WDP…kneeboards and much more
-
@Ironman53rd
wait what??? WDP has VR kneeboard options??
Unless I’m missing something, it’s useful for mission info, but can’t really put checklists, charts, manuals, etc. on it too? -
@Atlas no but if you send the output of wdp to openkneeboard you can have the best of both.
-
@rubbra yes, that’s what I do currently.
-
@Atlas I was but I’ve largely given up with wdp recently. I tend to use either ezboards or a custom thing I wrote that takes the briefing.html and renders it to pdf for openkneeboard - it provides more detail than ezboards output generally.
-
-
@Atlas I’m confused! Why can’t you do this wdp and okb? I have charts etc in one tab - basically by theatre - and mission briefing in another.
-
@Atlas said in Kneeboard options?:
Hi all! Currently using OpenKneeboard for my kneeboard needs (charts, manuals, etc.) but just wondering if anyone was using something else they can recommend? Thanks!
I can do it with WDP and OpenKneeboard. Like I said, I was just wondering if there is anything else out there to try or maybe even be better.
-
@Atlas ah I see! I don’t think so I’m afraid!
-
What I do is to use an iPad and Photos. If you build your kneeboards and take screenshots of them, you can load the .jpeg file into Folders and those Folders will show up as Albums on your iPad.
So what I’ve done is to do that for all my knee/NAV cards/Checklists. This way I can just flick through them as I would using a real kneeboard, and I don’t have to rely on any other software or have anything connected to interfere with BMS.

-
@rubbra - shouldn’t matter…a kneeboard is a kneeboard.
But I do get the point…which is why I don’t do VR…or AR…
-
There is VRK which @fredemmott says was a inspiration for OpenKneeboard but it isn’t being developed anymore the last I heard. I stopped using it when I stopped flying DCS a few years ago and even then Rider had stopped working on it.
-
@Stevie I know what you mean, but it’s a little hard to look at your iPad when you can’t see it
-
@rubbra - yeah…and that’s what I meant!
-
@Stevie
Well, OpenKneeboard has a zoom function and you can alter the default size, orientation, and spacing of your kneeboards so in a way, it’s got a bit of a leg up over the iPad. I guess the biggest advantage is being able to use it in VR and based on pictures of the 2D version, the VR implementation looks better.@Snake122
I’ll have a look at that, thanks! -
I use the in game keyboards in VR for the flight details using WDP then use Open Kneeboard for any reference items I may need in flight.
-
@Atlas - not really…I can zoom and rotate on an iPad…and with the newer iPads I can even write on them if I want…so, advantage iPad.
Since I’m building a cockpit, this is my best choice, next to paper.
