Kneeboard options?

in-game keyboards??
If you enable pilot model, you have kneeboards in the legs that can be cycled - basically what WDP spits out (if you use it).

Yes, sorry I meant the default pilot model kneeboards which work great in VR. Sometimes I just wanted more than the 16 pages per knee so use Open Kneeboard. I also bought a cheap drawing tablet to take hand written notes but ended up just using physical notes and ‘peaking’ out the gap gap under the goggles.
-
@S3NTRY He said keyboards, I guess he meant kneeboards! I was using a Reverb G2 before and that kneeboard is not readable. I’ve always flown without the pilot model anyway. Odd that I find the pilot model weird but floating kneeboards is okay
@Stevie I guess I prefer the kneeboard picture being bigger rather than having to move my head to get closer to the kneeboard. Having 2 kneeboards displayed at the same time is also one thing that I like. I can have mission info on the left kneeboard and then have maybe some charts on the right kneeboard.
All a matter of preference, I guess.
-
@wazza69 yep, curious about that tablet implementation, I may try that out sometime.

Oh yeah, looks like a typo turned into something bigger. Given the topic at-hand, I read it as “kneeboards”, given the context.
-
@Atlas Yes. It’s a matter of being able to use the kneeboard as I would in a RL airplane…I’m a Private Pilot, and an Aeronautical Engineer. So I have RL habits to maintain.
-
@Atlas - if you do have a look at used. I got a suitable Wacom one for NZ $25 (about $15USD)

is it possible to put on the radio menu on the kneeboard? It would be more realistic if we can see nothing else floating in the view only HMCS. no subtitle no radio menu . When we want to see the radio callback we would see on the kneeboard.

Has anyone got an automated flow for WDP? Ezboards is good but minimal. I have my own little program which converts briefing.html into a pdf but that is (obvs) just the briefing and could do more.
I hate having to alt-tab out, click things, keep VR alive whilst doing all of that, etc etc. when just track IR, it was fine!
-
@rubbra I have a semi-automated setup with Voice Attack.
I call “system generate package <package id>” from within BMS, and that starts WDP, and kneeboard extractor (a small python app i wrote, available on github).
Within WDP it auto-selects the package ID, and I just have to select the package once expanded; “update” in WDP, and the KE script generates fresh kneeboards that are available to open kneeboard.
Once done, I call “system finalise package setup”, and VA closes WDP and the background KE script; takes me back to BMS.
Works pretty well, and saves a bit of clicking, but not fully automated.
I do all my mission prep in 2D, and restart BMS in VR when I’m all good to go, which I could see would be too much of a bother for some, but I don’t mind.
This all takes a bit to get setup in the first place too, but it has saved me a lot of repetitive action.
-
@S3NTRY why do you restart BMS for VR? The 2D map is available outside of VR when running with VR option.
-
@Wheelchock I don’t like running my headset unnecessarily for extended periods of time.
I should add, that my setup requires a number of things to be done as part of the flight phase, so I just split the phases into setup(2D) and flight(VR).
-
@S3NTRY ah ok. Yeah makes sense I guess.

Ah yes of course. I’m only considering this in the scope of VR. I’ve not flown myself IRL for quite some time now so not too fussed with that. Maybe once we have decent passthrough cameras on VR, then I can use “proper” kneeboards

I guess I just don’t see the use case so much for now to justify a purchase. I use my PointCTRL finger buttons for most of the controls.

PointCTRL work with BMS now or do you mean something else?
-
@SOBO-87
Are you stating that PointCTRL works in BMS or are you asking? -
@Atlas asking!

LOL!! I hoped you were SAYING it was working nowI use my PointCTRL finger buttons for most of the controls.
… that was in reference to OpenKneeboard controls. I use the finger buttons for “next/prev page” or “next/prev chart”. Not to interact with the cockpit. Sorry for the confusion
