Solved Hook is not fully retracted
-
During multi-player, I put the hook down for testing prior to taxiing.
After I finish the testing, I put the hook switch at the UP position to retract the took. I didn’t know there was a glitch on the hook. On the runway, I pulled my stick to life off my jet. I saw some sparks. I checked the warning lights panel to see if there was a problem on my jet. I didn’t see any.
My wingmen said, my hook was down.During the single player, I was testing if the hook is working properly. This is what I found.
The first image is when I put my hook down. The second image is when I retracted the hook. It was not fully retracted. It was partially retracted. I didn’t have any Hook light on. I think this is a glitch. -
@shawn I don’t believe the F-16 has any hydraulics to retract the hook. I think it has to be lifted back into place by ground crew. I think it’s a one-time thing, you don’t “test it” afaik.

@SOBO-87 Thanks for your insight. I found the following on dash 1. Now the hook is “one time only” thing.
“The hook is electrically controlled and pneumatically operated. Pneumatic pressure is supplied by the LG/hook emergency pneumatic bottle which contains sufficient pressure to lower the LG and hook. When extended, pneumatic pressure holds the hook on the runway. When subsequently retracted, the hook rises enough to allow the cable to drop off the hook or to be disengaged.
The hook is spring-loaded partially up to allow taxiing over a cable. The hook must be raised manually to reset it to the stowed position.” -

Looks like it is what it is. The pilot had the hook landing and he didn’t retract the hook. He just popped out and had an interview.

not a bug, thats a feature
the hook is spring mounted, you can’t retract it from the cockpit alone

Is there any way to get it reset or do we need to reload to do that?

You need to exit mission and restart
I could
At some point code a ground crew to reload like the Jfs -
When I worked on F-111’s it took three of us to lift the darned thing into place. Tail hooks are quite heavy.
-
@Gavel1955 well yeah for F-111 … it has to be able to do THIS

Deploying the hook breaks a bolt. The cockpit switch up will retract it enough to clear a cable on the ground but not return it to the pre-deploy position. There is a heavy spring which presses against the bolt. The hydraulics of the hook apply more pressure and break the bolt.

That would be sweet. The use case would be if we had done a FARP landing to refuel and during landing used the hook. Then get the hook restored to its original state for the remaining part of the mission

@Frederf - as an aside, I know for fact that the Hook on the F-15 is hyd actuated, and can be moved up/down as long as the hyds are pressurized…however, when an Eagle is parked and the hyds bleed off the hook will fall to the deck, similar to how the control surfaces droop. There is a cable the ground crew uses to lift it partially in order to be able to tow the jet…so Eagle builders/coders - take heed.

That hook is not make for this. Hook is an emergency device.
After such a stop, the airframe and équipements needs maintenance.
The same way you don’t use the ejection seat to go out the plane rapidly to go to the toilet, arrestor is not made to allow normal ops on short runways.
