Difference between block 40 and 50?
-
Nephilim speaks words of wisdom.
-
So you know someone flying block 40?
Word on the street is that the block 40 is what the cool kids fly.
-
@Agave_Blue
Agree -
For your information, there is one Block 40 unit in the USAF that is tasked with SEAD/DEAD as a secondary mission: the 36 Fighter Squadron based in Osan. The “Flying Fiends” and they have HTS pod’s allocated to that unit. They also use AGM-88’s and PGM’s to destroy sam sites. That is the only US block 40 unit tasked with that role.

Ha. So it is. D’oh!

Resurrected!
Of course, the HUD!
For me it’s more difficult to differentiate a Block 30 from 50. Block 40 is always clear. -
@IonicRipper Hi . No, it’s not a bug. Actually HTS can be added to any jet in BMS . But, @schnidrman is right. The RL Block 40 doesn’t have it.
If you want to “turn it off”, go into x/4.37/your threater/sim/acdata/f-16CM-40.dat and look for # HTS
#-----------------------------------------------------
#Switch: 0 - No HTS, 1 - Internal HTS, 2 - External HTS
HTS_Type 1
#------------
A zero in switch type turns it off -

Spooky above is probably right because USAF 36FS Block 40s have been seen with the pod.

@Migbuster Thanks, Mig. News to me

IRL, USAF Block 40s also dont have an IFF interrogator compared to the block 50s that do
-
Wasn’t IFF interrogator a part of CCIP upgrade program? IIRC pre-upgrade blk 50/52 also had no active IFF capability. CCIP brought both blk 40/42 and 50/52 to the same standard.
-
@Xeno No USAF block 40/42 never had bird slicers with CCIP.
In recent years some USAF ANG units have got bird slicers on block40/42.

Some USAF ANG have slicers now on Block 40 & 42 like Dakota ANG
-
@Migbuster Yup, that’s correct, some US ANG have them but not USAF

I’m a newbie))
