It might be time to look into a Vietnam theater again
-
Let me know whatever you need… I’m also doing UI at the moment.
That reminds me I need to finish the one for Balkans… arrg!
-
I expect Mother Dave to post up his draft of the terrain shortly.
-
It will be nice for me to work with so nice devs.
Mike, how many airports has the theater in order to estimate my work in NavAids section and see the timing?

Let’s wait and see if Mother Dave and Ted bite…then we can start talking details.
-
This is the old theater idea I’m tossing around. Just to be clear, there will be no PMC-related material in this theater, if we decide to do it. It’s either 100% from scratch, or not at all.

Mike and All,
I’ll support this project.Normally, I would rather vigorously oppose the idea of making tiles ready in 4-6 weeks, but this time I’ll leave this without further ATM comments. What is expected time frame for the model of F4 and its great 3D cockpit available?

So Ted is in ;).
We must wait for answer from: “demer928”, “Molnibalage” and “RAM22”.
Let’s see…

It has been several days this is up, so I guess curtain down on Nam theater?
Pitty, but I understand that commitment like this could be very detrimental to one’s free time. No escaping of that, despite ambitious schedules. -
Now Hold on a 'dang minute Ted, I’m toying with this:

While in the throngs of despair, Dave rescues the Falcon community with a promise of Vietnam to come:D

Now Hold on a 'dang minute Ted, I’m toying with this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Ya…Location_1.gifSome sources dispute historical validity of Yankee Station location given by Wikipedia. According to them this was correct position which was further north. Then I am wondering if Yankee Station was fixed position , or they were moving further north during certain campaigns.
Anyway , glad you are tinkering with Nam theater Dave.
The North Vietnam Air Force (VPAF) had sustained some significant losses in early 1972 - primarily from my fellow Navy fighter pilots. By the time we finally had worked our way north from “Dixie Station” to “Yankee Station” and to the air war over North Vietnam, the enemy’s MiG’s were starting to become very reluctant to engage Navy fighters.
[Note: The common and often repeated, depicted point from Wikipedia for Yankee Station is inaccurate and incorrect.] -
If this team comes together as envisioned, it will be a “Super Power” theater building team. Able to accomplish theater building in half the normal time!
-
Not to interfere with what Dave is doing I have overlayed PMC Tactical 128 seg theater with simplified, but historical Vietnam War map and cropped (with red box) 64seg out of it. It looks pretty possible to make 64 seg theater and encompass all major war areas in North Vietnam , South ABs and Yankee Station. The center of this theater is @ city of Vinh.

Nice investigation my friend Ted.
Just give it breath ;).
Nikos. -
Dave,
It is good to see you my friend. I was getting genuinely worried about you. To the point I was about to look for your old phone number and make sure you’re ok.Keep in touch.

Sorry M8, the RL @ Robert Bosch GmbH is keeping me “pretty busy” ATM!!!..…don’t even want to go into how we are bringing three different systems into alignment.
Lots of man hours are being spent needlessly IMHO…oh well. The “Kid’s” are smarter, at least that’s what they tell me…ROTFLMAO!!!
We will see in a few months though…;)
As far as 'NAM…I like Ted’s idea BUT…we would need some further input from you, as to where the presumed\fictional war’s\scenarios could take place on the MAP???Dave

I broke out my old Vietnam refs but I won’t get to this until Friday night at least, probably more like this weekend. I’ll see what I can come up with.
This is harder than it seems. Ideally we want to include Air Force Phantoms as well, but if I’m not mistaken those guys typically flew out of Thailand and Laos, and refueled before going downtown. Since the AI won’t refuel that’s not going to work from a campaign perspective. That limits us to the Navy and maybe Da Nang unless we fudge some land bases on the west edge of a 64 segment theater. I don’t know if carrier ops are robust enough to go all-blue water ops, although it would simplify campaign building.
I need to spend some time figuring this out.

Actually I see you’ve got Udon and Ubon in there, so that would work maybe.
Can a Phantom make it from Udon to Hanoi and back if he’s carrying 3 externals?

No Ted’s got the U’s there……LOL… I’m thinking of bringing the MAP a bit further South.
Also,we can not get “hysterical” here, just will not work with the platform.
As far as the Carrier “Airbase’s”. They work just fine for the AI (at least for GUAM). TIP, place them at 0,0 or 64,64 and the AI will fly 'em BUT they will not show on map. Can do the same for any AB if need be.
As far as the “Diesel Burners”…dunno how they are FM’d in SimData or in the DB anymore. Maybe take a look at what we did in FF to correct those values…Dave

Time for some PIX and further input from the DEV’s.
This is my 80 SEG theater idea.It encompasses most of the “presumed” battle areas in theater. Here is a shot in game (Yeah,Mike……it’s already flying ) of the Vietnam highlands area with Blueprints L2E applied.
