It might be time to look into a Vietnam theater again
-
All input is welcome, even yours Brian……LOL!!! That is the only way community mod’s may get accomplished.
The 80 SEG is an experimental approach and would require constant support from my end to sustain it to completion. Don’t have the time ATM. Just threw it out there thinking someone would grasp the “Sandbox” map approach. Soooooooooooo……Here is 'NAM in 64 SEG with a “hysterical” map overlay:

I can go a little farther north if a 100 mile flyout over Hanoi is not enuff’.
This WIP will be available for Download soon. Give me an hour or two.
Dave
Dave, have you ever take a brake or you want make the rest of us small devs feel uncomfortable?
Your friend Nikos. -
OKIE DOKEY!!! The Developers copy is available here:
http://www.adrive.com/public/ntZsd3/Add-On%20NAM.7z
NOTES!!!
As I have been a bit lazy in the past, here are the install instructions:
1. Extract the zip to your desktop.
2. Copy and past the ADD-ON NAM to your ?:\Falcon BMS 4.32\Data folder. Where ? equals your drive letter
3. Open your ?:\Falcon BMS 4.32\Data\Terrdata\theaterdefinition\theater.lst file with Notepad and add this line
Add-On NAM\Terrdata\theaterdefinition\NAM.tdf
to the bottom of the list, Save and close.
4. Open BMS and select theaters and you should see NAMALPHA in the list.Select it and exit, I guess, I have not a had a problem with the Theater Switcher code since 4.32. (ghost’s…LOL!)
5. Go fly Instant Action to get an idea of what’s to come
6. IMPORTANT!!! E-Mail me your PIN # so I can access your bank account…Just Kidding!!!Developer Notes!!!
This is a standard 64 SEG build for Falcon. It includes some rudimentary elements just to get it “flying” in BMS.It is up to others to polish it.
Finer points:
1. The tiles were built in TerrainView, just to give us\Ted an idea as to how the Coast is situated…;) There is a BLANK texture folder included to build on if you wish.
2. I only included NAMED objectives for now…all NONAMES have been excluded. As well, further work need’s to be done i.e. remove Airstrips. This will further reduce your objective count. As it is now we are at 2500+…
3. UI work is just enuff’ to get started
4. Could not get China dnnet.e00 So we have no rivers\lakes for that area…not worried ATM 'cause I think I have some ARCInfo that I can convert.
5. I have the NAM files that I made for this Theater i.e. the MyData.hdr…etc that I will upload if needed.tired Demer
Have FUN!!!

Dave:
If you are ok with it, I have a Vietnam template that I can incorporate into your Vietnam Alpha. It has some UI work that would look good in your alpha setup.

Have at it!!!
Dave
Just to make this clear. This Theater is NOT mine it now belongs to you\us\ours……etc…it is free…PERIOD!!!

Sounds good Dave. I will incorporate Revientor and I’s work into the new ‘Freeware Vietnam BMS Community’s Theatre.’ When I get everything put together, I’ll post a download link. I’ll then start adding aircraft to the major NVAF and SVAF bases. airbases

Thanks for the UI work……BUT I would get with Mike (Toonces) as far as the AB’s and OOB goes.As well, we have no tiles or tile info .thr ATM.

Copy that my good friend Dave ;)!
Just 2 quick and easy questions:- Do you know how many airports has this Nam theater?
- You said “Not RL……my friend”, that means we will go with NOT real airports names and all of their data to this theater (historical or current ones)?
Nikos.

Well after a quick check, (hey Dave there are almost 195 airports inside, are we going to keep them all? :rtfm:) i made my first fly from/to Hue-Phu Bai airport near Hue city.
In real life it is the Phu Bai Intl (VVPB) with VOR/DME that has TACAN channel 105X and ILS with freq. 109.50 to RWY 27 (for us will be 23L).
So after apply the proper NavAids, here i’m following the ILS to RWY 23L with my F-4D:
“Good morning Vietnam” here we come…

Nikos.LOL….Yes there are over 100 Air Base’s ATM…get to work now!!! Really, most are Airstrips and will be removed (I hope!!!) by the Campain’ developer. This happens due to the aepoint.e00 file. Where in EVERY airport, whether big or small is included…Sigh!!!
Glad to see you have it flying via TE and with NavAids!!! TBH I never checked it…LOL!!! I’m amazed you did not explode…HAHAHAHA!!!
Must now go and check the other 194 Air Base’s …NOT!!!Dave
BTW Stations and Stations+ILS now belong to YOU!!! my friend.
EDIT: Just did a quick check of the “WITCHY” file’s …NAMES (LABEL’s) are there…
-
I thought I had the OOB written down, but I can’t find it. I’ll see if I can put a new one together before you get started generating a campaign file.

Mike,
I have noooooooooo…!!! intent of making a Campain’ file for this or any other theater outside of GUAM ATM.
We must first have the tile’s with proper paths\areas and such B4 we even think about it.
Reading your post…and this is not meant as a CRITICAL review……but we need to slow down a bit until everything is in place.Dave
This is NOT PMS…I know you’ll get that!!!

Template for ground units:
-
Chuckles, et al.,
When/if you start building any campaign-type files, I want you to focus on one campaign only right now. Don’t feel like just because there are three campaign “slots” that you have to build 3 campaigns. The first campaign I want to build is an Easter Offensive scenario. The start date for the campaign is 1 April 1972, which is what I based the air OOBs on.
Wikipedia has a nice article on the Easter Offensive if you are interested in reading more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Offensive
Those OOBs I posted will need to be tweaked, but they are a starting point. We can use that as a template and then tweak for gameplay as required.
-
Mike:
I was going to use the Select.idx screen labels/campaign selection screen names and pictures from the template I sent you a while back. you know, the one with the names like Rolling Thunder, Tet Offensive and the third one I can’t remember. If you like what you saw, I can incorporate them unchanged. If you what changes, tell me what you’d like and I’ll fix them and provide an upload.
-
I think the third one was Back to Vietnam.
I would like you to change one of them at least. I’d say the least likely to get built right now is Rolling Thunder, so if you can call that “Year of the Rat” it would fit with what I have in mind.

The return to Vietnam was the premise for a modern campaign. Anyways, I’ll change Rolling Thunder to the Year of the Rat. Do you want keep the same black and white pictures for the labels? Also, since I am modifying the labels, do you want one to say ‘Easter Offensive?’
-
Yes, keep the same black and white pictures for now.
Year of the Rat is the name of the board game I am using as a reference for the Easter Offensive scenario, so they’re one and the same.
I like Year of the Rat better, but that’s just a personal choice.
