Copy that my good friend Dave ;)!
Just 2 quick and easy questions:- Do you know how many airports has this Nam theater?
- You said “Not RL……my friend”, that means we will go with NOT real airports names and all of their data to this theater (historical or current ones)?
Nikos.

Well after a quick check, (hey Dave there are almost 195 airports inside, are we going to keep them all? :rtfm:) i made my first fly from/to Hue-Phu Bai airport near Hue city.
In real life it is the Phu Bai Intl (VVPB) with VOR/DME that has TACAN channel 105X and ILS with freq. 109.50 to RWY 27 (for us will be 23L).
So after apply the proper NavAids, here i’m following the ILS to RWY 23L with my F-4D:
“Good morning Vietnam” here we come…

Nikos.LOL….Yes there are over 100 Air Base’s ATM…get to work now!!! Really, most are Airstrips and will be removed (I hope!!!) by the Campain’ developer. This happens due to the aepoint.e00 file. Where in EVERY airport, whether big or small is included…Sigh!!!
Glad to see you have it flying via TE and with NavAids!!! TBH I never checked it…LOL!!! I’m amazed you did not explode…HAHAHAHA!!!
Must now go and check the other 194 Air Base’s …NOT!!!Dave
BTW Stations and Stations+ILS now belong to YOU!!! my friend.
EDIT: Just did a quick check of the “WITCHY” file’s …NAMES (LABEL’s) are there…
-
I thought I had the OOB written down, but I can’t find it. I’ll see if I can put a new one together before you get started generating a campaign file.

Mike,
I have noooooooooo…!!! intent of making a Campain’ file for this or any other theater outside of GUAM ATM.
We must first have the tile’s with proper paths\areas and such B4 we even think about it.
Reading your post…and this is not meant as a CRITICAL review……but we need to slow down a bit until everything is in place.Dave
This is NOT PMS…I know you’ll get that!!!

Template for ground units:
-
Chuckles, et al.,
When/if you start building any campaign-type files, I want you to focus on one campaign only right now. Don’t feel like just because there are three campaign “slots” that you have to build 3 campaigns. The first campaign I want to build is an Easter Offensive scenario. The start date for the campaign is 1 April 1972, which is what I based the air OOBs on.
Wikipedia has a nice article on the Easter Offensive if you are interested in reading more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Easter_Offensive
Those OOBs I posted will need to be tweaked, but they are a starting point. We can use that as a template and then tweak for gameplay as required.
-
Mike:
I was going to use the Select.idx screen labels/campaign selection screen names and pictures from the template I sent you a while back. you know, the one with the names like Rolling Thunder, Tet Offensive and the third one I can’t remember. If you like what you saw, I can incorporate them unchanged. If you what changes, tell me what you’d like and I’ll fix them and provide an upload.
-
I think the third one was Back to Vietnam.
I would like you to change one of them at least. I’d say the least likely to get built right now is Rolling Thunder, so if you can call that “Year of the Rat” it would fit with what I have in mind.

The return to Vietnam was the premise for a modern campaign. Anyways, I’ll change Rolling Thunder to the Year of the Rat. Do you want keep the same black and white pictures for the labels? Also, since I am modifying the labels, do you want one to say ‘Easter Offensive?’
-
Yes, keep the same black and white pictures for now.
Year of the Rat is the name of the board game I am using as a reference for the Easter Offensive scenario, so they’re one and the same.
I like Year of the Rat better, but that’s just a personal choice.

Ok, Here’s my last post for the night. Dave, I incorporated Revientor’s UI artwork along with my theatre selection screen artwork. Mike, I made the changes to the select labels as you suggested. Here are some screen shots. If everybody thinks they look good, I will incorporate them into a single download of the Alpha theatre. Dave, I know you are very busy, so, when you have built/delegated the building of a UI map can you post the image here? Once I have it, I will pm Revientor about incorporating it into the artwork files as well as creating the necessary Intel, Campaign selection screen map and etc. Now for the pictures. Have a good night folks and enjoy the eye candy:

Well done my friend Gavin, a nice start really ;)!
I will follow you with a small gift, so if you will include this nice to the theater Alpha version, pm me to send it to you in order to include it also.
Nikos. -
Hi guys.
Well in order to help you to taste this Alpha version of Vietnam theater, i created the NavAids for these 4 airports: DA NANG INTL, NOI BAI INTL, PHU BAI INTL and UDON THANI.
I corrected their names to real ones, i did runway leveling to them and for DA NANG INTL and UDON THANI i fixed the issue that the aircraft exploded over runway.
Now all these 4 airports are fully functional and have the real NavAids.
Below you can see a preview of the NavAids list:
And here is the DA NANG INTL with leveled runway and without problems to taxi to RWYs:
You can download the “Vietnam_NavAids.rar” file (3.41 MB) from here (Installation instructions included):
https://mega.nz/#!d5RTnRab!LjTu8UqOXHzXKIIL_i3-AxHUNtRAgfcfbxAiLlXXt5sI hope to like them and to enjoy them.
With my regards,
Nikos.P.S. Dave, i have now only 191 airports to work to
-
Good work Nikos!!!..…BUT you now have only 48 airbases to work with based on Toonces OOB. We are getting ahead of ourselves a wee bit…you see??? Not being critical…but we need some further terrain development done i.e. the tile’s, B4 we start leveling\elevating things in the .L2
As it is now the tile maker, whoever that is going to be, has two different .L2 files to contend with…not good this early on. Lets slow down a bit and wait until that aspect of the build is done Though I don’t think the Chart work would change, the Air Base type might…@Gavin…Good work on the UI you guy’s keep at it!!! Caution though, if this moves towards a MP release there are some things that have to be changed to somewhat prevent abuse…sigh
@Toonces “Here’s your cat’s, now herd them”…:rofl:

That is very true Cemil. A new F-105 model along with three colour camouflage as well as polished aluminum/metal skin would also benefit the theatre.
