Hey folks,
Lazystone gave me a heads-up, about a now-deleted topic regarding Europe-Theater. I don’t wanna discuss the PMC Theater here. The review can be found by googling.
There were some questions raised and a discussion I would like to shoot my 2 cents in.@TomCatz:
It is my area where I`m still living. So I would change all textures into better quality and realistic areas. So that the hole surface is looking like Germany. It could be so easy and so much better.
Tom, your offer is much appreciated, however it’s not only changing the tiles. With the current limitations & restrictions of the BMS terrain and environment engine, BMS is simply not up to the standard I have in mind for the Europe Theater.
Lazy why don’t u and Spynx open up the theater and let ppl join in? Sure u do but maybe some more open approach could help more.
What I mean is some screenshots some status report and I believe many will join in if they see some foundation and that there is work going on.
U know a sparkle to ignite their enthusiasm and motivate them.Arty, Ice - anybody who has some spare time on his hands and is willing to help can join our team.
You have access to tons of renderings and stuff. However NONE of the guys that joined us during the last - let’s say 3 years has managed even to complete one 3d Model (of e.g. a simple House).
So here is our status report: Work done in the last 6 months: Lazystone has worked on terrain stuff, to create a basic terrain, he is - correct me if I’m wrong - far from being finished. We have done most generic buildings for the West-German Airbases. A few generic civilian buildings have also been made. the only thing that I’m currently doing is maintaining server / website and providing resources of cold war stuff. I simply don’t have time for much more at all.
Yes, maybe we are not that open - if you consider signing a simple NDA, that helps me keep things under control, as not open, but I have my reason for that. Half year of my work has been put into F4:AF and sold without my permission, and I would like to prevent that from happening again. If someone can’t bring that much initial enthusiasm (an attitude of getting things done), I think he might not be a great asset for the team anyway.
Besides you need someone establish some rules that the developers need to work by to have each components fit together.
I rather have no Europe Theater at all before having a crappy / another PMC one. -
I wasn’t aware of any developement going on at a European theater for BMS. Could you provide some info about it? And what do you mean by ‘BMS isn’t up to the standard I have in mind’? That’s a bit confusing. Does it prevent you to work on it? Are you waiting for terrain engine improvements?

I also do not understand Sphynx’s post. Who is working on Eruope? What kind and size of Europe map? Etc.

A small timeline correction …
Well, it’s true that in fact the terrain is far from being finished, Terrain devs would say it’s just started.
But I’ve stoped working on the terrain Nov 2012, to join forces with “Lukas”,
because I’m a terrain noob and he has already done a lot of work on his EU terrain.
To get where he already is would take me … uhmm … 3 years I think.So in the last 6 months I’ve created my very first AC model, … actually not far from being finished.
… usually 3- 4 weeksOnce this is done I might go back to terrain deving again.

I’d be interested in knowing if the Nordic countries would be included? The PMC europe theatre includes southern Norway, Sweden and Finland. At least Norway operates F-16 MLU’s

Remember that the F4 world is flat. The further you go from equator, the bigger the distortion. So the far north will be way off from reality.

But not around the meridian. The further from meridian, distortion is more noticeable.
That is why I stretched northern islands according 3D globe measurment in my last vip version.
It looks like this then ( i can freely stretch northern islands above Scandinavia, all 2D features are by hand in this area - no data):
I have even Iceland with its own projection (64 seg import) without any distortion (i can place it instead of current one)
BTW i have still Spanian coast prepared for further work…with version where is less sea around Bjornoya (mean I have shortened Greenland then)
I am still not sure which one to use …but Spanish is my favourite (coastal batteries, choppa + naval bases possible) - otherwise there is too much ocean on the west - I was too lazy to tile too much east from Moscow (but still wanted Moscow perimeter a lot, due to interesting SAM network…also this western movement (back) allowed more Buffin bay - mean better and more real Thule base (I am obsessed north last few years)
I have some bitmaps configs for north prepared, but waiting for devs response about diagonals (many, many small lakes there…)
No problem for me, i can wait (owerhelmed by RL work issues, but I liked to relax with tiling when snowed under RL work in the past…
