NELLIS Red Flag Theatre

K’ I’ll start the MAP.
Someone’s will have to learn how to tile in PR.( I have a plan)
500M rez for outside the Air Base’s, 50M inside our “Booble”.
Gives them a balance……here is a quick TUT on how to get your PR tile to play nice nice with Falcon\BMS DX engine:"Its Sand man, Its Sandman……LOL!)

Few points:
Guam concept has ocean tiles all around and because that did not “take away” too much from 4096 it was still big enough not to see the border/edges of the theater.
With Nevada 16 SEG you probable will see the edge of the theater soon once you off the ground (or very soon into the flight if Nellis AB would be in the center of 16SEG). Seeing edge has very annoying and immersion killing effect!
I have entire Las Vegas and sorrounds ready and tiled PR(50M i think) , can give you to save time (if you want), you could “beef up” resolution of the Nellis AB to get even more detail just there when at lower altitude.
Just a suggestion.

Whatever you gents do, give the textures/tiles more saturation.
Collected a huge folder of shots /videos from the Reno to Edwards area for IL-2 map projects and the areas look nothing like those Google satellite images in real. -
This honestly depends on many factors: time of a day, turbidity of the air, humidity etc, etc.
-
I prefer naturalistic color-tones instead of “PC-colors”.
-
Well, BMS tends to make any flushy coloured landscape desert or none into a pale excuse except at high altitudes.
I don’t live there of course. But from what I’ve seen the whitish greyish style is an absolute rarity on shots from the US nevada and Edwards California areas, I have like 200 shots of that stored at my PC. -

@A.S:

So do I.
Polak’s terrain work is the best thing anyone can wish for in such an environment. But I beg to differ between arcadism aka oversaturation and a mild resaturation…all of this vastly influenced by game engines. -
Gents, though I have just completed the 16SEG map sans any PMC and it is flyable in BMS UP7, it is my understanding that there may well be another effort in process for this theater. So I would definitely abstain from duplicate work, if this is the case.
That being said, I still think we have a hard time understanding 16SEG “Sandboxes” in BMS.Very doable if you pay attention to the details.
I know there are many and if we miss one……CTD…
One detail is the MeanEgressAltitude file (.mea) and yes Dunc I named it correctly this post…ICNRC…then…LOL!!! Hell getting old.
This cannot be built in Monsters TE tool for 16SEG, have to use Baldeagles tool.
SO…As far as Horizons Ted, I hope we can see from the vid that we can merge land with sky vs. land with sea if needed.

There is no ongoing work on Nevada on my end. I have done approx 75% of 64seg theater but from certain reasons been forced to abandon work on it. I do not plan to resume work on that theater and if there be change, I let you and everyone else know well in advance.
-
This would be my suggestion going forward:
Duplicating effort is wasteful. If Ted has 75% of 64 segment Nevada done, and photoreal Las Vegas, send that stuff to Dave. Let Dave open it up and take a look. If it can be incorporated into a map/terrain, use it.
I like 16 segments from a GAMEPLAY perspective, but I didn’t consider the aesthetics of it when I suggested it previously. I don’t have any issues with a 64 segment terrain. We will just use the part we need for the campaign(s). There’s no reason somebody else with a fetish for pain couldn’t eventually use the full 64 segments. They’ll just be sitting there- those extra segments- waiting for someone to come along who enjoys the sensation of being repeatedly stabbed in the eye with a pencil…
-
Ted, if you’re suggesting that NOBODY can use your 64 segment theater, for whatever reason, then I’d suggest just sending what you CAN share out to Dave and we’ll proceed as above from that point.

Mike,
I just offered PR Las Vegas,I shall send them to Dave soon.I have started Nevada very long time ago 2009, not knowing anything about Falcon politics etc. About half way through the project (75% to be exact) I realized, I was most probable working on PMC version of that theater and the work ceased at that point. Amount of work to correct that theater was pretty enormous. New road network, new inland water bodies (none were present) , new towns, new ABs and totally PR Las Vegas and Fallon. But the fact remains that core work was that of PMC (and it was sent to me IIRC with assurance that it was not).

ALL
In an order not to duplicate each others and push this product to completion we are working collectively with the community to push this product to completion. Myself and Rthorflech have put over 500 dev hours into Nevada and we will be working with demer and hopefully Polack, Toonces and whoever else to finish this.

Great work there. Don’t stop it ;).

Finally this area sees the attention it deserves. I always thought that desert theatres where the most fun in Falcon.
-
I would also like to thank Nove who has developed some hangers appropriate to this theater. More to come!

My work here is done.
