As Badger suggested, Veterans gaming server on ip 199.0.207.230 Set bandwidth to 300
Annoyingly its
down
just now. These things happen, but its been available most of the time for some years now.Have not been there for 2 years, what sort of online action is usually going on there?

for whatever reason, the biggest, most active and interesting multiplayer falcon community doesn’t have a sticky thread… Im talking about FalconOnline ofcourse:
http://falcon-online.org/forum/index.php
they run month long PvP campaigns in different theatres (korea, sinai, balkans) with different ROE’s and tech levels (ie, 70’s sinai and modern korea).
during the down periods where no campaign is running, you will find lots of people doing Co-op and dogfights etc. good place to meet people, fly together and learn. hope this helps…

Its whatever you make of it. Its ideal to link up by prior arrangement with others to run a favourite TE, or do your bit for the campaign if you do not have great hosting potential yourself. If you CAN host multiple pilots then less valuable.
Also useful to newcomers wanting to find their feet online. -

Sorry, I’d never even seen that. It is a year old though, and relating to a specific event. If I were to write a general Introduction to what FO is, what they do and how to find them etc would it be possible to replace the Redflag sticky with it?
I know for a fact that for myself and many others, the FO campaigns have completely revitalised our interest in this sim and my discovery of it was random and not very straight forward… Considering the size and activity of the community it seems rather absurd that it doesn’t get a more prominent position in the Multiplayer section of the BMS forum. What they do is unmatched anywhere else in any other game and represents, in my mind atleast, the pinnacle of what can be achieved in multiplayer Falcon…
-
Also FO was advertised for long in my Hot List and is on the Squads List…
The thing with FO campaigns is that without awacs 24/7 the thing can go bad as for the blue on blue. I mean it is superb those vids I’ve seen where Fluffer IIRC drove 2 flights in cooperation and they didn’t end up in a furball.
In case awacs ain’t available u can’t run a second falcon in lan for having a quick look.
Having an awacs option 24/7 would solve many things for such big participation.Despite that is a great experience and opportunity for lessons learned.
It’s a good point for someone with basic knowledge to extend a bit farther and discover that doing well in a complicated 3d battle environment ain’t that easy and good SA is the key. -
Hi arty,
Indeed, sometimes the fog of war is hard to pierce, but in general, I haven’t had that many issues with friendly fire. People are generally responsive on comms, and the lack of AI AWACS in Sinai means people are generally more careful to ID contacts. That said, its much more rewarding and realistic this way! I always found the AI awacs to be too good and quick - the reality isn’t like that at all.
My general point is that look at the sticky posts:
- VG - their server is highly disorganised and not even running atm. They have a good quality post though that explains clearly what they do etc. It clearly makes it look like this is the place to go for MP falcon - the reality is that it is mostly dead; the server is down atm afaik.
- RedFlag - a post about a specific event that lacks details and general information.
- An interesting, but mostly irrelevant post by the forum moderator.
I understand that a new thread for each event wouldn’t be desirable which I why I suggest to write a new thread with a more general explanation and introduction to the community that can be stickied in place of the RF thread. Any announcements re: new campaigns etc can then be posted as a regular post within this new sticky thread. This way FO gets a sticky post worthy of the work they do and the forum doesn’t get spammed with campaign annoucements.
What do you say Dee-jay?
-
I don’t think this server is dead… maybe dead for public use, but I think it’s on fire testing u know what we are waiting for…
I don’t know that for fact I just assume… and by the time frame and it’s use well I believe it is the case… we are in 3-4 week before 4.33 and the server is down… for long… rings a bell?
Maybe I’m totally wrong… But I believe it’s servicing a higher cause… probably not…
-

Correct.
What do you say Dee-jay?
I think that it is not under your responsibility to advertise FO activities. It is on FO managers (mainly A.S. here) to be on duty.
It is indeed what they are doing by asking me to stick/un-stick post depending on current on-going events and keeping relative threads up to date.
-
Clearly this arrangement isn’t functional - as mentioned, the last post dates to more than a year ago.
Its also curious to me that I was discouraged by several people (not the FO staff I might add) from engaging in this discussion here because of ‘politics’ - seriously? wtf does politics have to do with a community of flight and f-16 enthusiasts? clearly there’s a serious bout of cabin fever going on here…
the VG server is dead in the sense that there’s hardly ever anyone flying there and that the teamspeak server is also empty. good luck finding people to fly with there…
Its also interesting to note that the sticky thread is out of date and that there were more recent announcements that aren’t stickied in its place.
I was just able to connect to the VG server running KTO 4.32.7 … so much for the super secret 4.33 testing…
sigh if only common sense were common…

2500 members registered on FO!
It is about 70% of the active users registered on BMS forum. I would certainly not qualify FO activities as “not popular” or unknown!Clearly this arrangement isn’t functional - as mentioned, the last post dates to more than a year ago.

“several people l” are nobody … Who exactly? … (if you do not want to post here, you can contact me via PM)
Propose your FO “advertisement” to A.S. who will contact me to make it sticky if he want.
Its also interesting …
Interesting? … why interesting?
… to note that the sticky thread is out of date and that there were more recent announcements that aren’t stickied in its place.
Report it to FO managers. A.S. will maybe able to give you an explanation.

I must add that I do not understand, and not really appreciate your tone here and the full of “hidden meaning” in your post.
Do you have something to reproach to BMS, or to Bad-Boy’s who is the historical instigator or PvP concept (at least withing BMS development) … ?
… and thanks to their work and feedbacks, BMS features has been, in a first time : … improved in a second time, and will continue to be improved in the future with, of course, the additional feedback and requests from FO team and users.
…
Just in case of doubt, even if we are not the same organization, Falcon Oline and BMS relationship are quite good (IMHO) and (AFAIK) there are not problems with anyone from FO staff!

it just doesn’t seem particularly efficient and more than a bit nonsensical that such a large community isn’t more explicitly indicated considering this subforum is dedicated to sharing info on multiplayer sessions and communities etc.
i found your posts a bit strange, for instance the implication that the VG server is down for 4.33 testing when thats not the case and that an out of date thread with little to no detail or context is a valid ‘introduction’ with a sarcastic ‘really?’. the few outside comments i had on my post also indicate that there is more to it than meets the eye. i just cannot understand it, it reeks of petty infighting and I am saddened by it as i have seen similar things in similarly niche communities - the FO community is a huge asset to Falcon4 and I cannot understand why its not leveraged as such more. the 3rd party does all the work and adds all the value to the experience, yet there is seemingly little engagement, let alone will to engage.
sorry if i was confrontational but I cant help but feel that you are not entirely forthcoming or transparent in this. i reproach nothing to BMS - the sim is fantastic and I have fallen in love with it again; i also cannot wait to see what you are working on, but considering the easiness and simplicity of what im suggesting, why the resistance? I will stop arguing as it wont help at all and I don’t want to antagonize you further but I had to say it.

QUOTE]
I doubt the VG server is down more than 5% of the year at most which is not bad for a FREE facility (that probably actually costs someone money). Don`t knock it.
There is no need for any newcomer to visit the web page before use so Team speak might often be bypassed. Use chat and be prepared to vary your time of visit and give patience.
Make use of the obvious fact that you can meet others there by previous arrangement. Surely flying with those you know is the ideal. Many do.
Summer holidays/vacations will have had an effect for several weeks now.
There are 2 distinct groups of
serious
bms fans. One of them has joined a squadron and the other for various reasons chooses only to engage in single player. Naturally this reduces quantity of free floating casual users.Fighter ops is specific challenges that draws in the more experienced flyer even from the VFS. Not comparable with VG server.
In any event the direction this thread seems to have moved is the question of publicity for FO. Start making posts at every opportunity perhaps.

Miss-understanding on both side then.
The “Really?” pointing to the RedFlag thread was an answer to you affirmation wich was "for whatever reason, the biggest, most active and interesting multiplayer falcon community doesn’t have a sticky thread… "
BMS forum is more a sort of support area rather than advertising platform for anything other than Falcon4 BMS itself.
We host a lot of 3D party stuff, yes, but know that we were extremely close to close the entire forum and keep only an announcement page with download link.
but considering the easiness and simplicity of what im suggesting, why the resistance?
Resistance! Where? when? … As I said … just contact A.S. and propose him something! Then come back to me on his behalf or let him ask me to stick the advertisement thread …
But it is on HIS responsibility to ask me to stick something about his baby (their baby) and validate the way it is introduced to BMS guests.…
for instance the implication that the VG server is down for 4.33 testing when thats not the case
Just to clear up any doubt … when you guys are talking about VG server, are you talking about Bad-Boy PvP one?

I am very sorry i would’ve posted lot earlier i just didn’t want any drama or a Flame war which lot of these threads turn out to be, so here’s the reason why Falcon Online-FO stop’ed posting about the Events, Long time ago Some Mods wrote that FO is advising on there expense. Falcon Online and me personally respect all the rules that the BMS makes on there Forum. I understand BMS mods have to deal with lot of stuff in there free time to maintain the forum for other people.
About the VG Server it runs a regular Korea Campaign where anyone can fly, it need’s a constant maintenance not to mention since the UI is not locked so people are making there own games and Dog fights in the running server which is very bad for stability. AFAIK there is no BMS beta testing on the VG server at all.
I understand there are lot of people who just don’t wanna fly the Force on Force (not PvP) we host over @ Falcon Online because the skill level of the pilots there is way above average in lot of areas. But let me tell you if you Don’t fly there you will never be ready & from a personal experience let me tell you Flying in the server is nothing like you have ever seen. I remember i got shot down so many times but i kept flying because learning is all we do in there plus it is so much fun
Anyways please no flame war or drama over my post i’d like to say thanks to BMS for keeping this forum open for everyone.

Archer, dude: when can wee rock on the BFB testing, sir?
-
Thanks cobalt - I don’t really frequent the VG server since discovering the FO community - its simply MUCH more active, with an active website and teamspeak server making it much easier to find people to fly with on a spontaneous basis. I’m not knocking VG at all, but when it comes to multiplayer falcon, its far easier to hook up with people and fly in a much more compelling setting at FO - the last sinai campaign (that just ended) had 25+ people flying simultaneously everyday - lone wolves and squadrons in a persistent PvP campaign - where else do you get anything like this? I really recommend you do another speedtest and hopefully your upload speeds will be better this time - I guarantee you wont regret it…

I have to confess I dont like Sinai: I like my HARMs, aerial tankers and Block 52s. Balkans! Red Flag looking awesome as well.
Bring it on…!
