Which Balkans?
-
So here’s the thing. I keep coming back to read on your (the theatre developers) exploits and adventures in the world of Balkans creation, but I have to admit to some confusion.
There are superb and mouth watering screen shots, detailed discussions and generally superb work by all involved, but is there more than one Balkans theatre available now?
I dearly want to introduce the theatre back into our squadron, but until we have a final, globally accepted product, I don’t want to jump in.
I know there is a download link and hotfix, and I’m also aware of some new work that’s around…somewhere. On top of that I understand that the Falcon Online boys are busy on a version with a campaign.
Now I have seen some tension on the forums too, which is sad to see, but what I, and I’m sure all the other boys and girls out there want to know is which one is the one we should ALL use?, particularly if inter squadron events are to use them.
I would say that if common sense prevails then one common product should be released, but is that possible?
I’d like to finish by applauding the stunning work, time and effort that you guys have been putting into this. Keep it up.

I can only Speak for what Falcon Online is doing for this Theater. We took this Project last Year to fix the Campaign so it can work. But a new Concept came out of all our previous experiences which was Player Vs Player. Now keeping this in Mind a small group of people started working on this Broken Campaign under the Guidance of Mystic and A.S.
Now along the way Fighting Falcon Joined us and offered his new Terrain Textures which halted the Campaign work since they needed to be finished first. So once the Textures were Finished a unanimous decision was made by all to not release this Theater until the Campaign was Finished.
Now the Textures were Released by Fighting Falcon to be pasted over the Old Balkans. He did’t want to wait for the campaign to be Finished that is his Choice. Now Falcon Online Like i said before will Release This Balkans under the Name of ( Battle For Balkans ) which will Feature a Fully working Campaign, New UI and OCI. I don’t know if any other Group is Working on any Campaign Fixes for this theater.
Now the Theater that everybody keeps flying is the old theater which came with the BMS4, it has files all over the place 3 of them i know. First the Theater Itself then the Hot fix and lastly the FF Terain Textures.
I hope my post clear’s some of the confusion over this Theater.

Thanks Archer. That clears any confusion that may have been around.
A final question if I may. If any of the readers have installed the theatre, hot fix and FF’s textures, will these have to be removed once your version with the campaign is released or can they remain and be written over?
I can guess what the answer is but I also guess others may be thinking about this question.

We’ve already discussed this in TS. I can have the installer made in a such a Way that it will delete any older Install of Balkans. I am not sure if some people will like that, but i will put a warning with the download link.

Even why we could have 2 add on balkans in theater.lst …

Yeah but… caution! Only one it’ll be a THEATER with dedicated UI, with dedicated installer (no copy, paste …oh my God … I porked my Falcon installation :wfish:) and mainly with a working campaign.
D.

… from what I read, the current situation has changed, from the screenshots and various information, the theater Balkans edited by Fighting Falcon will have many new features.

I’d go with the one that crashes less often… I’ll leave it at that.

Griffin - Regarding your suggestion that we all use one version across the board, I disagree. For inner-squadron stuff I understand, and FO BFB is the choice by default due to the FO events, support, installer, etc… and being on the same stock install.
But I don’t agree we should push for one Balkans for the community. Our squad spent a lot of MP hours in both Balkan versions. I think if someone is willing to put in the time on a project and share it with the community, and it is totally optional to install, there is no downside. For example, there are several Korea theaters - we have default Korea, we also have Molny’s 80s Korea theater (fun and challenging), FO Red Flag (which has some great improvements in a lot of areas), Rthorflech Custom Korea (which helps guys who don’t know how to use LodEditor), Bad Boy’s latest Total War (personal favorite), etc… each with it’s own flavor/cool features. So it would seem wrong to say X theater is the only one we should all have. You can have two Balkans theaters just like how you can have 4-5 Koreas in the same install. With the exception of BFB updating root directory files, theaters are in separate folders and shouldn’t impact other theaters.

BFB installer is actually being revised as we speak. Since we are updating the main installer for the next BFS 2.24 we will be also “fixing” the BFB installer.
ie. No false positive virus warnings, fixed install issue with AV running, and most of all we are removing the SU-27 pit and any simdata changes.

Cool, looking forward to that. And I didn’t mean it in a negative light. Just didn’t want to mislead by saying all theaters don’t impact each other. Technically I guess ITO can also impact other theaters if someone opts to use the F4 patch settings for fuel in the ITO F-16s. Thanks

The next Battle For Balkans which is redone completely with a new Installer and it will not touch any stock files. Lot of bugs were fixed and next BFB release & Should be rock stable.

Guys it is easy to have to different versions of the Theater in your installation… Backing up your original will be the first step then installing the other is the next and then you go to your backed one change its name to whatever you like also change the theater parent folder in the theaters tdf file (in every line that is mentioned and of course the name you choose) and last just in theater.lst file you use again that name! It is simple i’ve done it allready and works like a charm! I allready have 2 installations of Balkans in my BMS folder with the difference that i changed the name to the second one from Add-On Balkans to Add-On Valkans! simple isn’t?

Battle For Balkans Doesn’t touch any other Balkans install at all. BfB has it’s own line in the theater.lst & when you go to switch the Theater has it’s own different Name in there. The next BfB release will not Change or touch users stock files at all.

Archer - Once the current version of BfB is release, should we uninstall the previous version?

Yes the Installer will not continue until the previous BfB install is uninstalled.

Simple question, should I wait for the next version or d/load one of the available one’s now ?
