Tried the ramp start tutorial…...
-
There’s a three-sweep document floating around somewhere that covers this plus a bit more, and it’s how I learned. I can get everything done before the INS finishes aligning and then I’m sitting there waiting for it to finish before I can take off, but skipping over some of the unimplemented tests (4.33 I know I know, makes this bad practice) I can get the Jet booted to flyable state in about two minutes.
Yuppers. Personally I think it will be cool to add in FLCS power/FLCS BIT, engine SEC checks, and EPU checks to the norm. I might be strange but after having worked it for so long it will always be my favorite aircraft.
The hardest part is getting the throttle idle detente switch to click in the 3D pit.
Another reason I love my WH profile so much. We have it programmed where it behaves just like the real aircraft. I leave it in cutoff the RPMs will not go beyond 25% and sit there. Take it out of cutoff and into idle and she starts right up. In the other direction the same. As soon as you take it back to cutoff the engine spools down.

The 3 sweep is in the BMS Documents folder, by Red Dog.
My advise, read that document entirely. Once you understand what tests are for what purpose, and you know what every switch does for the jet, it is absolutely normal way of doing a ramp start procedure. I don’t need a checklist anymore because I know every switch in the pit and what it does.
Stop learning lists by heart without meaning, understand what you are doing and why. -
Another thing smasha if all of this is overloading you I’d suggest a building block approach to this versus the entire ball of wax. Just do the ramp start TE and only worry about starting the engine. Do that over and over until it is easy and second nature to you. After that then work on adding a piece at a time until you are comfortable with the entire process.

Stop learning lists by heart without meaning, understand what you are doing and why.Actually, that’s WHY I skip some of the steps - I don’t know what they do. Hilarious Story: I didn’t know what the AC was for (I thought it was for the pilot) and after six ramp starts with my avionics overheating and shutting off I finally stopped to look. Now I only turn on systems when I know what they are for, I don’t touch anything I don’t understand.
I am slowly working my way through the list of systems that I don’t know, so my knowledge (and my mental checklist) is growing.

@smasha:
…Making a profile with CH manager?..
Forget CH manager for right now. I’m pretty sure all the buttons/axis on CH’s are fully recognized by BMS, meaning its as simple as using the controller setup within BMS itself, and it’s a similar procedure to setting up controls in pretty much any other pc game- click the command/click the button; rinse and repeat. Takes a few minutes yes, but it will help to familiarize yourself with the HOTAS in the process.

But will it be recognized as a “Combined device” with out the manager. Could run into problems there. I run the Target software but most functions are DX, not all yet.
-
I’m using Kolby’s 1.6 basic keys file as well as his ch map but when doing the ramp start tutorial, the shift -K buttons do not work.
Every key file I’ve used has one portion missing.I can’t get the mouse zoom to work either with the mouse wheel with any key file.
It is enabled in the BMS configfile but I can’t click the command and assign the wheel,it does nothing
Driving me nuts this.
If this is what the sim is like just setting up controls,I’m going to be stuffed trying to learn it.

This doesn’t work.
I click the kb command and it lights up light blue then I try to use another kb setting for it and nothing happens.Mouse zoom with the wheel refuses to work.
I have track ir enabled.
Does that disengage the mouse wheel zooming?(more hair thrown onto the floor)
Does anyone want to help me with my CH hotas?
With teamspeak 3?I’ll never get the bird into the air otherwise.
I remember when I had the Saitek x 45 ,everything worked in Open Falcon.
LOL,3rd day and I still haven’t got a working CH profile.
Track IR 5 is very jittery as well when zooming into the cockpit.
It sticks for a moment then decides to move.
Wow really poor.
My old track ir 4 was way better.I noticed the track ir 5 was hotter than a V8 supercar engine and unplugged it.
-
THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE!
Move my head to the left console to try to see the panel.
Track ir stops and stutters .Then I use the mouse wheel to zoom and the track ir moves the view away.
The track ir 5 is terrible.
Track ir 4 was so much better with this sim.Track ir 5 ,when you zoom it stutters and stops then after that it is on another viewpoint.
I GIVE UP!!
Finally get a CH Profile now the bloody track ir doesn’t work.
Anyway ,I need a 50 inch screen to make the tiny buttons out on the left and right consoles.
Eyes are burning squinting at what button I need to press.
This 23 inch aint cutting the mustard.May try the ED Tracker because the Track IR5 is rubbish.
It overheats also.

With or without Pro clip?

With or without Pro clip?
Pro Clip.
Juttery like crazy compared to the track ir 4.
Does anyone know where the ramp tart list is?
I printed out the wrong docs -the checklist .
Searched in all the doc folders but couldn’t find it.
Driving me to insanity this lol.
FOUND IT.
Printing this out 36 pages lol. -
More or less all problems i had with the TrIR so far were because of wrong placement of the ProClip on my headset and the receiver on the monitor. Especially when looking to the left side because at some point the receiver will loose track of the IR leds when turning the head far to the left.
I can upload you my profile for the TrIR 5 later, maybe it helps.

Man stop bighting off more then you can chew.
You want to use another’s key file. What’s wrong with the defaults?
You can’t do the simple task of left clicking on a key map entry and then pressing a input on your joystick ?
You insist on trying to setup/use your Track IR at the same time.
And lets do a ramp start while where at it.Your not only driving your self insane but all those trying to help.
And your been a member here since 2011, have you been in a coma?Go join a Squad in your time zone but get ready for some tough love.
Or forget about Falcon, crawl before you walk.A Left click on key entry and then the Stick/throttle control it should be linked too.
B See, now that a DX input is Set
c My Target software is running and Stick & Throttle are seen a combined device.Ramp Start, easy go Takeoff Taxi

@smasha
I use Yassy’s TrackIR profile with no problems. I’m using TIR 5 with “poo clip” like you. This profile works like a charm. Don’t forget you should have your ‘camera’ situated left side of the monitor for best results. Profile can be found on Arty’s Hot List here;
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?13653-Arty-s-Hot-List
or directly here;

Don’t give up mate, hope this helps a bit.
Best regards.

I nearly started the bitch.
Couldn’t find the FLCS blight switch or something.
Was an absolute nightmare with the Track IR 5.
Starting to think I wasted money and should have just got an Ed Tracker because the response is woeful. :-x
I printed the 36 page checklist but it was way over my head so had to use the scripted ramp start in BMS.
Will take me a year to remember to do a Rampstart but I’m not gonna let this bloody sim get me down this time.
She can be a smart arse for as long as she likes.
I’ll be sticking like a fly to poo.
Thanks Fubar2Niner.
Keep doing it until I remember.
Then the next thing I will try to learn is bulls eye training.
P.S. I love my CH HOTAS and your profile Fubar2 Niner.
P.S. wowee so many links there Fubar .
Falcon flyers are not the full quid.I also had a peek at Viperpits .org.
A bloke with a proper oxygen and pants set up in his pit.
You all are clinically insane you Falcon sim plots.
Crazy dedicated. -

Yes man,I have been in a coma.
I go in a coma when I open that f4 manual. It’s like a mouse trap loaded you know.
I look over to it and it teases me but when I open her,she SNAPS my brain in two and I close her in a hurry and pack her back on the shelf.
But this time I’m not gonna let her place her black paws onto my back.
I’ll BARK BACK!

Lot to be said for the 2D pit at least you can see everything. But then again I am biased as thats the way Ive always flown Falcon. 3D pit never used to be clickable. Plus I think they stick a POV hat on joysticks for some reason, eludes me at the moment.
One suggestion I do have for you with any face position devices not just trackIR is to make sure none of the keys conflict with any in the key file or the profile of your joystick / HOTAS / Keyboard. Time consuming but worthwhile doing in the end according to people Ive flown with who had exactly the same issues.
And Smasha does have a point, the manuals now are getting a bit outdated, no disrespect to the programmers intended so don’t start.
-
I tried that Track Ir profile and not much difference.
Jittery.I used to be able to get a great zoom with the track IR 4.
This thing jitters and splutters and stutters all over the place.
I was using the TRack Ir 4 with a pentium 4 now this thing can’t play ball with a quad core lol.
That profile has a very small zoom.
I want the whole panel I’m looking at to be on the whole screen.
Setting up this sim is a game in itself!

I might do as you suggested and use the 2d pit myself.
-
Ok I remember the 2d pit was the 2 key.
What is it now?
Track ir is jittery as all stuff.
Unusable for the ramp start I’m afraid.
It sticks and pauses.
Must need a usb 3 port.
