1980s Theater

I’m really enjoying your videos, Krause, and I hope you can get more of the 80’s campaign posted up on YouTube.
Many thanks, good Sir!

I’m desperately trying to find a methodology to prevent Tu-95s from bombing my Korean peninsula airbases (Pohang, Pusan, Kimhae) into the stone age. I’m intercepting with the F-4Ss, F-5A/E, and F-16s but they are getting through anyway. I can shoot them down in 3D but they attack in a forked approach and I can’t be in two places at once.

NEW VIDEO!
World War 3 - HUD Optional
This is a proper British mission in Tornados. Flying through an amazing gauntlet of Russian air defenses to attack an mi-24 base! This campaign rocks - mainly due to the fact that everything is much deadlier (more Russian-er) than the stock theater.
I usually can’t sit thru these F4 youtubes. However, I was screaming “WTF” at my laptop when you popup on the wrong stpt.
Well done.Nice mod Molni. I’m going to need a new video card to run it.

I guess you refer the Iron Fortress campaign and H-6 (Tu-16). I did not place Tu-95 in any campaigns.

Yes, Tu-16 and IL-28 too. I found I could station some Kadena 16s offshore for a quick flight to “Agent Smith” them. With wing tanks they last 1.5h easily so one squadron can cover both ROK bases 24/7. If I try to fly myself any full sortie then I quit to find at least one airbase destroyed. I have to play big daddy for campaign and fly only 10-20m at a time or bombers always get through.
I’ve noticed there are two squadron #33, the 15s and 16s at Kadena. Also some DPRK ADA BN are named a little wrong with capitalization.

The name of sq. are just a label their campaign ID which gives the real ID. If some units have the same # it is just a typo error from me.

The home base of bombers can be eliminated with very long range missions. The air defense is not so strong it is FLOT and object defense orientated.
In Iron Fortress blue side has two main advantages, the CV based squarons are more which are in Japan. These airbases never can be attacked by red side so sq. at lest there always remain operational. -
There are no tanker aircraft, the AI can’t fly (in 3D, 2D is cheating) all the way to China and back on internal fuel. Attacking the bomber bases is not practical or realistic. And the bases are well guarded.

I placed tankers in all campaigns. You can create manually tanker deep into see and you can flank the whole main part of theater. The bomber bases are far from FLOT and other bases and none of airbases are guarded more than one heavy SAM and maybe AAA or MAPNAD. If you can fly to airbase without beig detected and intercepted for a 4 ship flight a single SA-2/3 is not an issue…

KC-130? F-16 can’t take fuel from that.

KC-130? F-16 can’t take fuel from that.
1991 - Rolling Fire - KC-135
1982 - Iron Fortress - ****, I scrwed it, I wised to use KC-135
1987 - Eurowar - KC-135 + KC-10I can upload tomorrow a fixed save1.cam with KC-135.

It’s cool man. If we can do this, we can do anything ….
(not from Molni’s theater …. )

And BTW it can because in Falcon even the graphical representation basket is also a boom and refueling probe on other jets are also just a defined locations for refuel. Just move the basket to your refueling door.
-
Interesting. I wouldn’t mind if KC-130 was deliberate to restrict what aircraft could refuel. A good commander should be able to work around it. Naval aircraft tend to have longer range anyway. I’m just upset and venting because I haven’t figured out how to task all the squadrons properly. I’ve started the campaign over several times usually with fully manual ATO which is so much work.
I went to the store and bought a big piece of clear plastic (36x24") and printed the map. Hopefully I can keep tabs on all squadrons and AD BNs this way.

I have to get a new keyboard, I just drooled all over mine…

A horribly traumatic raid on Taetan and Ongjin airbases - I still see their faces at night. acmi: http://www.krauselabs.net/dump/taetanCrazy.acmi
TABLE OF CONTENTS
11:26 Cowboy flight has pushed ahead of the package to suppress the SA-5
14:00 NOE and about to do a pop-up
16:25 Pop-up attack on SA5/SA3
21:00 Preparing to do a pop-up with CBUs on SA-2 at Taetan
24:00 Furball and chaos -
A note to the video. MiG-23 BVR capability is very minimal and R-23 has quite a short kinematic range and is very, very vulnerable to beam and chaff. The real danger is the MiG-23MLD which has R-73 which makes almost as equivalvent in head aspect combat as MiG-29A.

Resurrecting an old thread, but finally got around to posting a BMS video:
I’m pretty damn rusty in this video flying the 80s theater. First flight in a good 4 months or so!
