Making TAC TE files from Stock TRN files See the associated INI settings
-
Greetings.
I’ve copied the “-34-Surface to Air Missiles” stock training files to “SamTraining” files…all the same except edited the .TRN file with Mission Commander, which is now a .TAC file, with the ONLY change in that file being it’s now a 2-ship to be MP-enabled. Then, I load the new “SamTraining” mission from the saved menu. However, the threat points/labels/range rings from the related INI file are no longer visible on the HSD. All else seems to be there, including the steer points.
Does anybody know how to rectify this issue with the threat plots/rings, without me losing or modifying my base <callsign>.ini settings?
Thanks!

I don’t quite understand yet why it works this way, but ….
Open the finished TE as if you we’re going to fly it (i.e. not in edit mode) and stop the clock immediately on entry. Set up all the ‘extra’ lines, ppts, etc. that you want to add. Save your DTC. Now SAVE the TE (keep the same name). That will create the ini file for that mission (i.e. ‘SAM Training.ini’). For MP, you have to share the ini file with other players and they need to put it in their ….\campaign\save folder.
Now whomever opens that mission will have the pre-marked 2D map. They’ll need to save their DTC (as normal) before committing to 3D and then those ppts, lines, etc. will show on the HSD after the DTC is loaded in the jet.
(I think I’ve got all that right … :wish: … )
Edit:
Arrrgh!! WAY too complicated …. the above works for a generic new TE that does not have an ini file and you need to make one that you can share.
For you, look in …\campaign\save. Find the file “-34-Surface to Air Missiles.ini” and make a copy. Rename the copy to be “SAM Training.ini” (i.e. [yourmissionname].ini) and that should do it.

Thanks for the reply, Agave Blue.
Roger…tried that, sir. Doesn’t work. The only thing I find missing are the SAM sites/threat rings on the map as you enter the <mission schedule=“”>screen, as well as on the HSD when I enter the mission itself. All of the “enemy” equipment is there, and they are just as deadly. Below is a directory of the files. I have not modified any of the files beyond what MissionCommander did to create them.
Then here is the <mission schedule=“”>screen for the trial of renaming the existing “-34-” files to SamTrainingCopy.* set…with no mods at all. The SAM site markers are missing, as well as the rings. Same with the SamTraining files created with MissionCommander to add the second F16 in my training flight.
Logically, the method you mention, without mod’ing the files to add the second Viper, should work, but it doesn’t. Is there a reference in the TRN file pointing to the named “- 34-Surface to Air Missiles.ini” file?

hmmmm ….
I’ll try to remember to check it out when I get home in a couple days. Should be very easy … unless as you imply there is some unknown variable/reference.

OK, try this:
Open your ‘SAM Training.ini’ file in a text editor like Notepad. Just under the [Mission] header, change the mission name to SAM Training.
See if that does the trick …. I got it to work and I think that was the key.

That worked!
I sent my wingie the same files to put in his saved directory and he also had the proper range rings, etc. Thanks!
