Tacview – Understand what happened during your last flight! (alternative ACMI viewer)

Hi Vyrtuoz,
In 1.2.8 the manual slider for setting the a/c trail length isn’t working correctly. It appears it is only making the trails go on and off, on being long trails.
Please fix! Thanks.
Cheers,
Scub -
You are right.
This bug has been fixed in Tacview 1.3. So you will have to wait for a few weeks to get the fix.

Hi Vyrtuoz!
If it’s not too much trouble for you, could you please include EMF theater to the next version of TacView?

Thank you in advance and Merry Christmas!!!
P.S.: TacView 1.3 … ROCKS!

Sure! I’m currently integrating it in the final release of Tacview 1.3.

Nice one Vyrtuoz, auto scale-up is a great addition to TacView. On higher resolution screens with smaller dot pitch it does make the planes a bit too big in my opinion and gets a bit cluttered sometimes. It would be great to have maybe two sizes selectable by the user, so that you can opt for a smaller size somewhere in between the two screenshots you posted if you prefer.
I will definitively tweak this feature in coming releases. I just wanted to publish it quickly so you can enjoy it without waiting
Are you still planning to add some way to adjust the size of the auto-scale up objects? I love the feature but find the objects are too big for my monitor/resolutilon.
-
Yes, this is still planned for 1.3.x. Can you share me some 1:1 scale screenshot of one this problematic view so I can find the best way to solve it?

Thank you Vyrtuoz for the new version!!!
I believe I made the correct modifications in the xml, but I get a very large offset in viewing my flights in EMF.
The above is a VHS file (BMS 4.32.7 + EMF 1.0.0) which you can find HERE
It is a route:
-2-ship Takeoff at LGBL airbase
-Terrain masked flight west to LGPZ and popup attack some targets there
-RTB (Terrain masked flight east to LGBL)My Data-Falcon4Theaters.xml is:
<resources><falcon4theaters><theater id="Korea"><simulators>Falcon 4.BMS</simulators> <path>D:\Falcon BMS 4.32\Data\Terrdata\korea\terrain\</path> <west>123</west> <east>132.26</east> <south>33.79</south> <north>43</north> <lod>2</lod></theater> <theater id="East Mediterranean Front"><simulators>Falcon 4.BMS</simulators> <path>D:\Falcon BMS 4.32\Data\Add-On emf\terrdata\emf\terrain\</path> <west>16.7</west> <east>39.4</east> <south>28.7937183</south> <north>47.228646</north> <lod>2</lod></theater></falcon4theaters></resources>
Can you please look into it?
Thank you in advance!

Is it possible to display the flight plan in a future version?
-
Hi Frederf,
you can already do it with DTC-Converter, a great and very simple soft by uri-ba that allows you to convert most of DTC values (like flight plan) in Tacview as a static object.
Let have a look
For sure you will find all you need.Windblow

I have the same issue, but with a different offset.
trying your ACMI, here is the result :any idea about what is wrong ?
Anyway, thank you very much for this major update Vyrtuoz

Sorry, I should have been more clear. I’m talking about the size of the scale-up icons which I find so large that they obscure what is going on unless you zoom in really close. Could you perhaps add a slider, like you have for Trails size, to allow the user to adjust the size of the scale-up icons to better aid visibility when zoomed out, particularly with higher resolution monitors where the smaller dot pitch (pixel size) means you can see details better without having to zoom in quite so far?
Example of what I mean below. First image without scale-up activated (probably zoomed out a little too much but you get the idea). You can clearly see the individual objects/planes but you can’t really make out the orientation of them:
Below is the same moment with scale-up on (it’s in EMF so the greek and turkish F-16s are not showing as F-16s). The icons are so large that you would have to zoom in a lot before they are not obscuring each other. The scale-up icons are much better though for understanding the orientation of the planes:
Something in between would be ideal, scale-up icons that are clear and help you understand the relative orientation of the different objects without being so large that they clutter up the screen.

Thanks for the feedback Cannon and Windblow. I’m going to check this in the coming days.
I understand the other concerns about the auto-scale. Don’t worry this is going to be addressed; It is just a matter of time.

Thanks Vyrtuoz for your help on our forum. It works now.
For those who wonder … my problem was to show the Redflag elevations in Tacview 1.3… this is how it is solved: http://falcon-online.org/forum/index.php?topic=1592.msg19421#msg19421

I found and fixed the bug with the EMF theater!
This theater is twice the size of the average Falcon 4.0 theater. The size was hardcoded to 4096 samples in Tacview, that’s why it was not working properly (the terrain was properly displayed but not the aircraft). It is now a parameter in the XML file.
I will publish Tacview 1.3.1 in a few days.

hi, I want to add my theater into the list.
My theater is spherically converted, that is why its rather trapezoidal surface with different longitude of north and south corner of the same vertical edge.
What is “west” and “east” values exactly? I have different west in SW, middleW and NW (trapezoid).
I do not understand to this very well:- Specify the boundaries (longitudes and latitudes) of your theater purely in degrees
They are the same coordinates as the ones you can get while displaying your theater in Google Earth as an Image Overlay
Rotation is not supported, only translation and scale on both axes
SW corner is Lat 43.8 Long 0.4
I added this to the XML file:
<theater id=“NATO”><simulators>Falcon 4.BMS</simulators>
<path>C:\Falcon BMS 4.32\Data\Add-On NATO\Terrdata\terrain</path>
<west>0.4</west>
<east>25.108</east>
<south>43.8</south>
<north>62.2063</north>
<lod>2</lod></theater>But my tape is placed somewhere in far east Russia instead Baltic… ?
What is wrong with my XML config please? (beside this one is 128seg as EMF with 4096 TE segments)Thanks in advance

Hi Lukas,
Your coordinates look quite good even if I would choose a slightly different set to make the geographical distortion less obvious.
See the attached screenshot as an example on how to find the “best” coordinates using Google Earth (this is just a quick try, I didn’t take the time to make it as good as it can be)
That said, I have noticed an error in your file. Your [Simulators] node is invalid (the first occurrence is closed). E.g.: <simulator>should be <simulator>in this case.
Your file should be like this:
<theater id=“NATO”><simulators>Falcon 4.BMS</simulators>
<path>C:\Falcon BMS 4.32\Data\Add-On NATO\Terrdata\terrain</path>
<west>0.4</west>
<east>25.108</east>
<south>43.8</south>
<north>62.2063</north>
<lod>2</lod></theater>Note that you don’t have to specify Falcon4.BMS if there is no conflict possible with the vanilla Falcon 4.0 terrains.</simulator></simulator>
