WIP - East Mediterranean Front theater (EMF) theater
-
A question to the devs: it’s a great theatre, but what if I ever decide I don’t want it in my BMS install any more, how do I accomplish that? There’s no uninstaller, and simply deleting the Add-On folder will not reverse all the changes made…
Just curious…
Did you back up your Korea original Sim folder??
If not then you’d need to get it from someone or do a complete re-install. If you did back it up, then it would be a matter of just deleting the Add-On folder and restoring your original Sim folder.
I have the original Sim folder if needed.

Thank you for your replies, gents, relevant and to the point.

Thank you, and yes, I have installed emf on top of a fresh vanilla BMS install and I’ve kept a backup of the Sim folder; if restoring its contents solves the problem then everything is clear. ATM I don’t intend to get rid of emf, I asked ‘just in case’
BTW, in what way does the emf theatre affect the stock KTO? Should I expect any adverse effects while playing TE’s or campaign missions? So far I’ve only tried IA after installing emf, and everything seems to be fine. -
We switch MP EMF KTO without any issue

How about multiplay with some having EMF installed and some not?
Does that work or do we have another version of falcon now?Aaaaaaahhhh the good old days
Its not clear what EMF changes in falcon stock.
Changes i hear include
- flightmodels?
- sams?
- tacref ?
-
EMF changes the sim folder only. So, as it was stated many times now, just keep a backup of the original sim folder. When you want to fly in another theatre then use the original sim folder or the sim folder associated with a specific theatre. That’s all.

Thanks for the repley,
But not quite an answer?

…EDIT: its not just the sim folder since i have a changed tacref

@Shadow the EMF theater is stand alone Add-on , with BMS 4.32 base
ALL MP players must have installed it in order to fly EMF on-line
If you want another theater just switch via theater selection inside BMS menu
EMF Theater has new tacref new 3d models generaly new DB

Thx geraki,
The question remains: what happens if people have EMF installed and some not?
This is important because if thats an issue we will need to enforce installations / deinstallations within the quadron
Or at minimum sim folder changeEDIT ( rereading my post i realise it might be unclear): i mean what happens if you fly KTO with some people having EMF installed and some not
-
simple u will have MP issues.
U can switch to KOREA or whatever but u will have the EMF sim folder data.
tacref is minor issue. sure different but minor.
I believe cause this troubles many of us a F4Patch would solve this problem and is way easy to do.If someone can provide me the files stock vanila and EMF of clean install I can do it and provide it so that ppl can easily switch with the f4patch functionality. Please give me and a directory/file detailed list.
Meaning first change theater from EMF to whatever or viceversa via the Falcon UI, close falcon, then run f4patch and make the appropriate change, then open falcon and u r good to go.
Same sequence from x theater to EMF.I believe this is ok with the EMF team as I’m not changing their files just changing their location to ease users. Or do I need permission for this also?
Sorry for not doing the whole thing, meaning do the clean installs and locate the files my self, but I have way limited free time those days and my hdd’s need serious cleaning up as they have only a few gb’s free to do what is necessary.

No permission to proceed. Read the disclaimer again.

Sorry it is simply not true
I have been flying with my squad mates in BMS 4.32 KTO while beta testing EMF on the same install with no issue at all
this was done with early beta, late beta, RCs and final release RC -

That sounds like good news.
Just to be clear: were there also some of your squadmates that did nOt have EMF installed during the flights in KTO?
(Obviously its the mix of the two versions of falcon bms that worries me ) -
none of them had EMF installed but me. We were flying only 4.32 KTO
-
Ok good enough. That settles it for me.
Thanks for all your repleys.Snowman
-
Oh is that why you were flying that space shuttle for the last few months? I wondered why you were speaking Greek on the radios too.
Just kidding folks, you can fly both on the same install no problems, just not at the same time

Ok no problem… but to solve this problem (for personal use) then as the disclaimer says can I ask for permission to
1. make a backup of it
2. copy paste files and folders to my testing windows hdd setup? The reason is to have an insight of the theater structure and files…
3. also I want to save when opening them with Falcon editor or Terrain Editor and other Falcon tools to test some stuff and maybe offer work to EMF team? -
@Red:

wouldn’t that mean that some sim folder data used by your system where calculated differently then the way where calculated by the others that didn’t had EMF?
I’m sure it did.

Ok to clear things up,
emf changes the sim folder and tacref data. The second is not MP critical so I won’t elaborate on it.
As far as sim folder is concerned, the general idea is not to mess with default Korea theaters that comes with BMS at all. That means that all the additional information that were added in the sim folder, were added at the end of the default BMS ones.
To get a little more technical, sim folder (for all types of data) works with pointers to files. The default BMS pointers were preserved and we added the emf pointers to the end of them. So, when you’re flying Korea and you request a file via a pointer, this file will be the same regardless whether you have emf installed or not.
That is the theory and so far, online tests in Korea theater (with and without emf) support it.
The reason we recommend a vanilla setup is, since we are changing the sim folder, using any other mod/theater which changes the sim folder as well will lead to trouble. Installing theaters that are using the default BMS sim folder is ok, and in theory you will not have any problems, even in MP (just like default Korea theaters).

This critical information really ought be in the release thread.

So lets get this straight. The EMF team alters the stock BMS install at it’s whim, but also alters it to the extent that it invalidates any other Add-On Theaters that alter the sim folder,
then…
I believe this is ok with the EMF team as I’m not changing their files just changing their location to ease users. Or do I need permission for this also?

Prohibits any modification to it’s theater
install….Do I read that right??
Sounds like what went down right after BMS was released, in regards to theaters…Remember?
