Do you use smart scaling?
-
If someone want to make himself as “real” as it gats and he also takes all of the Features can compense things that are missing on a sim (there is much missing) why not? Smart Scaling is a Feature that can be uses, but no one is forced to use it That´s great on BMS, there are a lot of Options that can be used but there is no Need. Everyone can have it on a way he/she likes it.

The KC-10 is probably flying too low for the contrails to appear.
Often, yes, but we’ve had instances where the tanker produced contrails at FL220.
-
Contrails depend not only on the altitude but generally on the weather. During my 8 month duty at the austrian army air forces i was stationed at the military weather station at Hörsching (LOXL) tower.
At the daily weather briefing the pilots got infos at which altitudes they have to expect contrails.

Yep, its a matter of humidity, pressure, and temperature… Wikipedia is more knowlegeable than me on this
Bottom line, to have realistic contrails, you need a lot of particule systems which is a huge FPS killer.
And tactically speaking, they are as useful as IRL, allowing to spot easily ACs in the contrail layer. Beyond that, the size of the trail… not that relevant tactically IRL, it can also be useful to spot missiles in the booster phase, including smokeless ones. -
Contrail were (and I guess still are - if no DL is available) to help establishing eye contact within a formation that got seperated, you would pop up into the contrail layer and descend back drawing a small line visible to everyone.
as for smart scaling, I will turn mine off (as well as the POV zoom) when I have a 70" 4K monitor… till then, I can’t see shit with 27" 1440p screen from 1m away.
and the there is a mid range, that causes the model to shrink at almost the same rate it should grow due to closure, meaning that it looks like you are not gaining on it - which causes issues in closing from long WVR to guns (and when sitting in a spread formation) - no issues in close in guns or tight formation

Is there a way to edit the SS multiplier value on the user end?
-
AFAIK, you.cannot enforce specific setting over MP.
-
-
@A.S:
Not yet
“Yet” is such an ambgius time frame…
IMHO, it should never be enforced. Because of the variation in screen size and resolution between players.I.e someone with a 42" 1080p screen 30cm away vs same screen 1m away, vs 55" 4k at same distance vs stupid ass 18" 720p screen.
Besides, even in real life not all men are born with equal eye sight.
-
Noone said it should/will be… but “it can” be is the idea.
It always is an advantage to have the ability to set more ROEs settings via server the currently possible (such as “player voice”, “FOV zoom” or “FOV Z-axis”, “Radio Calls bulleye” etc etc list goes on). -
(such as “player voice”, “FOV zoom” or “FOV Z-axis”, “Radio Calls bulleye” etc etc list goes on).
I want one that disables the gun when “smoke on” is used.
-
I disagree that setting more ROE’s is always an advantage.
There are people around here who think padlocking is a cheat. There are obviously people who think smart scaling is a cheat.
Would you really want those people forcing everyone to play “their” way, regardless of hardware configurations? I sure wouldn’t.
-
There are “opinions”, different hardware configurations, old and un-heard of excuses, server-settings and ROEs. There are lot of things ……
-

The sim does not force you to play with those people.
The options are, well, optional. Oh, sure, I agree that it would cause conflicts between some people, but that is political. It will happen anyway, over some points and between some people.I would welcome even a smart scaling mapping, where I would be able to set the curve myself. It seems to be very good tool, but it depends on the hardware, and it is not exactly matching my preference. For example the closure-shrinkage, which gives trouble approaching objects. Say, make a hasty close up to the tanker. (I train <60s boom connect from >2NM) You are very likely to overshoot.
-
I think he is talking about the survival of F4 or F4 MP. Not everybody wants to put in a zillion $$$ to be competitive or functional in this online game that requires so much time, equipment, and dedication.
I guess if their are lines of ppl waiting to play on the F4 servers or to enrolling into VFW’s then ok, crank up the restriction and cut the not so want-a-bee’s. I have my bug-a-boo’s. I refuses to fly with TiR users that use ‘smoke on’ for IFF.

A similar discussion has taken (and is taking) place on the war thunder forums regarding the spotting / rendering system. The sim community is very small there, and the discussion did split the community in half. This and other discussions (and problems like bad balancing between nations, for example) reduced the sim community to death.
I personally don’t want to reduce the community by excluding the “non-pro’s” from events like FO. I can’t afford a large screen and a state-of-the-art GPU either right now although I would consider myself to be a hardcore simmer. We are free to do this in inter-VFW coops or similar events however. But then, it’ll be a free decision and no need to restrict it.
Anyway, what’s the real advantage of using smart scaling or padlock in a PvP environment? There aren’t so many really good people. If you are average and face one of these outstanding pilots, he will not use padlock because he is not used to use it and will get you anyway. If you are a good one and meet one of the average guys, it’ll be similar. I the age of ARH missiles, there has to be something bigger than smart scaling or padlocking to make a deep impact.
I wouldn’t bother about whether my opponent uses that help or not. -

I may not understand you fully. I wasn’t talking about making ‘deep impact’. To me the smart scaling is about fixing the PC world vs real world comparison. And it doesn’t matter who is using it, the crutch is either good fix or is it is imbalanced fix. To me it doesn’t matter much who is using the tool, the benefit from that tool, per person, is what matters to me. I find smart scaling an excellent tool. But I hate its incorrect distance guidance.

Would be cool if smart scaling could be activated/disabled in flight like Falcon 3.0

Is this because of Smart Scaling?
