Replacement for TrackIR
-
I don’t have TrackIR. But for those who have it, do you think this will be a replacement for it?

I use this since 2008.

Not even looking for a replacement. It is fast, full configurable, cost nothing and feels real.
I killed an old CD player ‘pilot’ for the IR and also got a 100 ohm resistor of that ‘pilot’.
‘pilot’ is polish IIRC from student days. LOL.
Do not waste precious money on TIR … better get FSSB R2.Livrot

Thanks,
Did see that when looking through BMS forums however, correct me if I am wrong, this needs Winows 7 and won’t work with XP.
Yes I am still running XP. For the foreseeable future unfortunately

Ignore post - wrong thread apologies.

If I have to choose I prefer TIR fron FSSB and I have both (well, FCC3). I could fly without FCC but not without TIR
-
try this, its free. I use it for DCS/BMS/FSX:

Another +1 for facetracknoIR using the point tracker plugin and the DelanClip which I got a week ago or so for 60€ including a ps3 eyecam and shipping from the UK to Germany:

You can also only buy the clip from Tomasz if you already have a decent webcam.
Cheers, Uwe

+1 for DelanClip. I have it and its working just perfect with Opentrack or Facetracknoir.

60 euros, why not just save up a bit more and get the real deal?
-
Of course that’s an option but i’ve looked up TrackIR 5 basic and it costs 159 Euros.
thats still 100 euros more, like i said each to his own.
I still can upgrade to TrackIR 5 in the future, but i don’t see a reason in it since i’m absolutely satisfied with my IRClip.
I would say it’s worth it and it’s nice to have options. -
Ah, my bad. I didn’t know it was that much more.

I think you might be able to get a better quote for the DelanClip given that you’re from the UK.

The production version Oculus Rift should do the trick. They sure take their time though…
-
Well in ces even the creator in a bbc interview said that resolution should be double. That answers everything about oculus and Sims.
-
Just check out edtracker which is working great in my opinion.

This is my plan at the moment. In the mean time, I’ve tried Facetracking, freetrack, and trackir… and while in that order, they are all improvements, none of them are stable. They all “wander around” even with zero head movement…
Currently waiting for a replacement TrackIR TrackClip Pro, as the one I bought was broken when it arrived.

I’m on my third one. They are a fragile design and the arm breaks really easily. Superglue works fine to glue the arm back on but I wanted a new one in each case…… cos I’m spolit

well, the clip itself was not broken in my case. The LEDs however, refused to light up, and the TrackIR could not track them. I guess it must be a broken wire.
Anyway, Ive just got to send it back to my supplier now, and I guess order a replacement.

JC1,
I use FreeTrack since it came out years ago in 2008 before the last edition 2.2.0.279 and build the clip with the Osram leds.
I thought i will give it a try. Couple of $ doesn’t hurt me.
I had a Philips 60 Hz. webcam but that thing did not work good enough like the PS3-Eye by $ony.
I testet also other cams like $$icrosofts VX’s and other brands for free but the PS3-Eye (640X480@75Hz.) is to me the best one to do the job.
You can get one nowdays from $7 to $20 range on Ebay. When you have a room without direct sunlight you don’t have to remove the ir-filter at all.
Also i have no complains about Freetrack at al. You have to config your motions the right way but that also is true with others.
I also tried facetrack and other free tracking programs but i won’t bother to use them. To much cpu power or/and not working properly like FreeTrack to me.
My computer is not the fastest one on earth. It is a E8400 (@3.8 mHz all these years) core Duo and with PreFinnity 2, FreeTrack is working only on the second core.
I don’t have (micro)stutering, it moves fast, no tearing, 6DOF, everything working OK!
When i ‘fly’ , i don’t think of head movements. I look around and focus to what i have to do to fly the aircraft.
I can say you actually don’t have the joy of sim-flying without a good headtracking device.
If you can’t or won’t build a clip then find someone for help or buy one.
So what are you waiting for?-SE-

I used to use freetrack with ps3 eye.
It is great while it works. However, lately, it is simply refuse to work anymore for some unknown reason,
even though I do not change my system’s hardware. So now I change the software to point tracker plugin with facetracknoir.
No more errors and it works great with bms. -

Have to beat the drum for Tomasz’ DelanClip again here: Solid steel, not just fickly plastic. If this one breaks, you know you’ve crashed for real
All the best, Uwe
