@Red:
I wouldn’t think that offering money for a community work would be well accepted here.
if your request has actually nothing against forum rules, the guy who will respond and take money will make the topic go against our forum philosophy and rulesso your request is actually creating a moderation problem
Philosophy perhaps. Nothing in the rules that says a person cannot accept money for a job undertaken.
Closest there is is that you could claim this is spam, which is against forum rules - although the advertising here is looking to find a service rather than customers, it is still advertising nonetheless.
IF you claimed that, the solicitor would be at fault - but not the solicited, as they have not broken any forum rules.
I will not deign to tell you what your philosophy for the forum is, as its not posted anywhere - and as such, you can say that the post is against the forum philosophy - though I note you have not as yet. Likewise the solicited RE against the forum philosophy - but the rules as presently written do not support there being a problem with the rules being broken.
I look forwards to see how this problem is resolved

having nothing better to say that smart assing the forum rules Bluewolf? I was indeed waiting for you mate to do it
Beware, you’re becoming predictive
Nothing in the rules that says a person cannot accept money for a job undertaken
true
But do you think it would be fair to do that with a simulation that is driven by free work from the community to the community?
I’d say it’s pretty obvious we all want BMS to remain free, that includes everything, even a service given to a guy requesting something that he really needs for his own mods.
Getting money in the discussion is nothing but asking for trouble and although that’s not in the forum rules per se, it should be pretty obvious considering what’s been done for free up to now?Wouldn’t you agree
Or do you think everything MUST be formatted to the latest comma for you to sleep okay? -

Or do you think everything MUST be formatted to the latest comma for you to sleep okay?I made no complaint about the forum rules RD. Be careful to reply to the post I wrote, and not the one you imagine I may one day.
I note that it is not the simulation he is asking for a service to be rendered to - tis external data for a different program. Not even for a public work, no less.
We want BMS to remain free - this is a given, RD. That said, WRT free work, I have long been of the opinion that you get a better standard of work when you have an intrinsic motivator rather than an extrinsic one such as money.
Of course, finding someone who is passionate about the F-4 could take some time, and someone who is willing to put time and effort into something intended to never see a public release could well be improbablely difficult to find.
You want my opinion, then? I don’t really approve. Like I said, I think you get a better standard of work when the guy is doing it because he wants to, and not because there is a $100 reward on offer. That said though, if I did accept this request for service (Ill not, no fear - don’t know the first thing about editing hardpoints), I would want to not have to worry about being told I had violated the forum rules - for something which is not in fact breaking any rules.
RD, if formatting bothered me, I would not get any sleep at all. No offense is intended, but your posts do not always come out perfectly - although they are better than a lot on this forum
In short, you can call it smart assing, but my concern is only that the rules are perhaps not quite where they need to be, if accepting money is now to be against the rules.

but your posts do not always come out perfectly
I would say the exact same of yours

Another thread derailed by pretension.
"“philosophy” can refer to "the most basic beliefs, concepts, and attitudes of an individual or group http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philosophy
Don’t think its in the Dash1.
Or as the great Captain Spock once said : “Logic, logic, logic. Logic is the beginning of wisdom, Valeris, not the end.”
Back to teasing Aragorn.
-
On the contrary Shad, whether a thread breaks the rules of the forum it is posted in is incredibly relevant to that thread itself. You can’t really accuse a moderator of derailing a thread.
-
So funny, it wasn’t Red who derailed it. Nice try but.
Here is another definition for you “devious; showing a skilful use of underhand tactics to achieve goals.” (On second thought it wasn’t that skillful.)If the Perp hadn’t offered money he may have had a better chance of getting help. I think that might have been what Reds post was alluding too, well that is how I read it.
-
Well, regardless of who you choose to blame for steering the discussion towards the validity of the discussion itself, the point stands that the discussions validity or lack thereof under the forum rules is actually a pretty relevant topic.
You could not for example start a thread offering download of the F-16s technical orders on this forum, then deny questions of the classification or releasability of those documents as being “off topic”.
And you accuse me of ‘pretension’. The irony.
-
man this thread is on fire!
-
Well, I certainly did not wish to offend. However, it seems to me that a mod is for a game not currently being supported by the community cannot undermine that community. That is, of course, merely IMHO and the incentive is only meant as that since I have posted for modding assistance before only to be rebuffed by the response that no one is focused on FF as it is not current. I will, of course, defer to the judgment of the moderator and proffer my heartfelt apologies.
-
I will, of course, defer to the judgment of the moderator and proffer my heartfelt apologies.
Hi parislord,
I don’t know that an apology is necessary in this case. I am not a moderator and I do not mean to speak for Red Dog, but from my reading his response to you merely stated that you have created a situation for him in which there was no clear moderation policy. A conundrum if you will.
The talk of undermining, et al, arose from the direction others explored in this thread.
Cheers.
-
My understanding was that, the offer to pay for help doesn’t go against forum rules/philosophy, but the acceptance of money on this forum for services rendered would be a violation of rules/philosophy.
If my understanding is correct (and I may be making the wrong assumption), then shouldn’t this thread be locked? The OP is basically a trap waiting to be sprung.

On an unrelated note, could somebody please Paypal me some money.
Any amount will be fine.
Cheers for that.
