Campaign targets
-
Hello all,
I would like to start my first campaign to get full joy of this sim. I have watched some tutorials, and I have a question. I would like to frag my own packages, but how do I know if a target is already assigned by ATO to another squadron/flight ?Thank you

AFAIK, the only way is to go through the ATO yourself, and check the target of every single strike package.
-
The only way to know that is to look at all the flights the ATO has scheduled. When you click on the ATO, click the “Show all packages” button. Then you can scan through them, by clicking on the button to the right of each package it will show you their flight plan on the 2D map.

It seems a bit long and unpratical. So how do you choose what target to go?
-
going to intel and see what is the target and what is in defnce. after that i go after radar and air defenc in that area also cas and interdiction flights on ground assets that are doing damage to yours. theres a link somewhere here bout dynamic campain

I always set my mission as interdiction. That way if on the odd occasion the AI hits a target between the time I frag a mission and then reach the objective I can find any ground target, destroy it and still get mission success. Obviously doesn’t work with any A/A type missions but it does work with all A/G missions.
I think you would spend more time searching the ATO than the time to fly the odd “doubled up” mission with the AI over the course of a campaign.

Sarge there is also an easy method to do this for A-A missions. Set up a BARCAP but roll the timer from 30 to 1 or 0. Then it is simply having lead fly over waypoints 3 and 4 then you are free to go hunting and still get a successful mission reward. Anytime I set up my own A-A or A-G missions they are always BARCAP or interdiction.

The problem is that the HQ goes for MAJOR overkill on targets. I have jumped into missions where the airbase it is set to attack is at 100% and by the time the 1-2 hours roll by and I’m over the target it is completely destroyed. Re load the mission and look at the ATO and see that the HQ has set no less than three 4 ship packages against the same target so if you get to be the last package in grats on an immediate mission fail as there is nothing left to destroy. I also end up going through the ATO in the middle of a campaign to verify it hasn’t set up packages against targets that are already completely destroyed. This is rather common. When I find those packages I delete them from the ATO and the HQ then gets smart about the newly available aircraft and sets up BARCAPs.
Between that above and having to set PAK priorities for the campaign type you are on there is a level of micro management involved playing a campaign.

While BMS campaign is awesome, I think it could use some UI improvements.
For example, as mentioned, going through ATO is very tedious and inefficient. Some improvements I can think of:
-
ATO can show streepoints of all the flights in the package.
-
Highlighting my own flight in the package (i.e. say I am in OCA strike, and I want to reconfigure escorts’ munitions. I would need to click on ATO, all packages, and try to look for my own OCA strike. It gets a bit frustrating when there are many OCA strikes scheduled, so showing my own flight/package highlited would be great)
3)When making new flights, it would be nice if the squadron I am trying to add a/c from have available aircraft. It is a lot of work to set up TO time and TOT of the new package, choose the a/c type, choose squadron and the number of a/c. And then I click OK and I get no aircraft available. It would be nice if I knew before going through all the hassle the number of a/c available for new missions.
4)there are others improvements but I can;t think of em now
Don’t get me wrong; I love the campaigns and I play it all the time. All I want to do is to make BMS better. Nothing but love lol

Well, of course. Don’t you already? Takes time to plan a mission…

It takes time, obvious. But it would be great to have a list of already assigned target, just to avoid duplicate missions.

Weapon Delivery Planner program has a handy feature I recently discovered. At the bottom of the OPTIONS menu list is a item that purports to list the currently assigned ground and air targets for your alliance.
