New to bms how to ramp start

Dee-Jay and Snowfalcon, I understand where you’re coming from, and you argue your positions well. I’m not even going to say that I disagree with you. Because really, I don’t, for the most part.
I’m less interested in changing BMS, and more interested in simply asking that its documentation be improved and expanded, because I don’t think anybody here would disagree with my comments regarding the completeness and orderliness of the documentation. Nobody has yet even told me that there IS documentation of ANY sort concerning the new TEs that were added in BMS, just to make that one single point by itself.
With BMS 4.32, we have what I believe to be the most detailed, highest fidelity simulator a person can install on a single home computer. But it is unnecessarily hard to learn and master simply because of the overall state of its documentation.
I personally would be willing to put some time and effort into writing documentation, if I knew the subject matter well enough to think that I was ready to take on that task. But I’m not there yet. One thing I am pretty good at is writing instructional
documentation and I’d be glad to volunteer my services once I get to the point where I think I have something to contribute.Ironically, it’s that very paucity of information that slows down the learning process that will make me qualified to write said documentation.

Paucity? Now there’s a word you don’t see every day. I dare say you might want to simplify the definitions if you do create any documents. :uham:
-
Funny, I think you’d appreciate the fact that I have a vocabulary which is more than merely adequate to the task of communicating my thoughts to other intelligent people.

Rather ironic given the overall substance of this thread then, wouldn’t you say? :tjacked:

You have, in effect, found the path to solving the problem you’ve raised.
BMS is in large part a ‘community project’. Raising an issue or idea is a good thing. But to expect, argue or demand a solution is not (not that you have done that). Before one reaches the level of ‘expecting’ or ‘demanding’ a solution, one must first realize that it is in his power to PROVIDE the solution; to do the work themselves for the betterment of the community.
Of course each gives according to their own ability and capacity. And each ‘contribution’ may not be recognized by the entire community as ‘useful’. But it’s individual contributions that make the difference over time nonetheless.
This is why some keep (more or less) quite with regard to ‘complaints’ or ‘demands’. They choose, for whatever reason, not to be the solution, but they also choose not to become a greater part of the problem by non-constructively expounding on it.

Funny, I think you’d appreciate the fact that I have a vocabulary which is more than merely adequate to the task of communicating my thoughts to other intelligent people.
As you noted above, your ability to communicate your thoughts with aplomb confers upon you the qualities needed to fulfill your desire. Pick up the proverbial pen and begin to consolidate the various operational tomes for the viper and present their content in a clear, approachable manner. I believe that BMS would then incorporate your work into their release and many new-comers to this sim would be appreciative. Contrary to your assertion that there is a “paucity” of information, one need only look at the documents’ folder of BMS and see that there is instead a plethora of information.

There is a lot of information about BMS. There is insufficient organization of information. It is a difficult problem. If one person does something then there is sharing, updating, improving problems. If a group attempts a bigger solution there are group dynamic problems. The sort of person with the enthusiasm to make a video set to rock music isn’t always the same to triple check their facts. If a document is made that draws on 10 other documents then suddenly there same information is contained in 11 instead of 10. The density went down!
Then there is the fact that difficulty to understand enforces a level of competence on the part of the user. A slick presentation gives the impression of understanding and completeness without the better perspective of a more laborsome process. You read one checklist and it’s open and shut. You read three slightly different checklists and wonder about the differences and your brain turns on. At some point the books can’t do all the thinking for you. There’s real work to be done by the individual with value that goes beyond simple inconvenience of imperfect materials.

If the day comes when I believe I’ve picked up enough information to help fill in the gaps, or otherwise contribute something useful, then I will certainly start to do so.
I suppose I could start on the undocumented tactical engagements that BMS added. A clearly defined starting point.

I’d never say no to more documentations :),
and I’d surely read it when the day comes! -
Thanks to everyone for all the posts. they were all very useful
