AH-1F / AH-1S

Hello!
It has started!
Front structure is more complex than I expected. Still a lot of work to get something nice. But I thought it was a good kickoff WIP!

Oooh! That is already looking very good. Well done, the helicopter models in BMS (or Falcon 4.0 in general) are a much overlooked component. It would be great to see them being upgraded from the flying shoeboxes that they are today!

And you just keep on making gold Radium. Very nice

Hello dear followers!
One step forward!
It more and more looks like an AH-1S Cobra!
Some stuff from Japan here :
Real one, no photoshop here!

Only in Japan, man!
Looks great, Radium.

Other than the Marine Super Cobra’s (AH-1W) and Vipers (AH-1Z), you don’t see many Cobras in the USA anymore. Such a shame, it’s one of my favorite attack helos!
Thankfully I got to see this beautiful AH-1F fly several months before it smacked into the ground while filming an episode of Top Gear Korea!
Here’s the crash, unbelievably, everyone walked away from this - just goes to show that the Cobra is as tough as they come!
And here’s a rare Fire Cobra - used by the US Forestry Service (USFS) to spot and map bush fires. I think they only have a handful of these (2 perhaps?)
-
Now I gotta go find out what top gear Korea was×! Old cobras were awesome . Tiny and deadly.

Hi!
Today’s WIP.
She is in the end rather complex to model.
Don’t pay too much attention to the smooth, it’s so raw…
More to come!

Hi!
I’m not happy with a lot of stuff I did on this helo.
But a WIP is like that : it’s not a commercial screenshot and you will be able to compare its evolution the next days!

Step by step will be a great model again

I just fixed a lot of stuff I wasen’t happy with. Now, I will have to perform one of the most complex operations in 3D modeling : piercing gates and opening on complex surfaces. It’s not easy to make quickly, but making it with nice smoothing then later render to texture is much more complex.
This part is really complex and require some do and redo to make something nice.
Hopefully, I have very good references from Japan.
Some years ago, I also had access to a JGSDF AH-1S, so, I have good memories of every angle.
I am also thinking about the beautiful OH-1…
And for after, I’m thinking about this :

Hi!
Today’s WIP.
I decided to show you a Sketchup viewport.
As I said long time ago, I make all my models in Sketchup, and do the rest in Max.
Why? Because I love some functions that does not exist in 3dsmax. Then, I can work much quicker.
9000 triangles for now.

Beautiful and fast work as usual by you, …. AMAZING !

LSHello!
There is one function I really like which is “follow me”. It’s a kind of extrusion, but following any normal in your model.
Also, I really like the fact that you don’t go from one modifier to another… There is one viewport, and you build your model simply, without any bug. This is really nice.
I also like the polygonal meshing in Sketchup : you just have to draw your normals, and polygons are automatically created. Of course, you can arrange as you want.
Generally speaking, all meshing process of Sketchup is different… No vertex/normal/faces/polygon modes, everything is automatically generated.
You can’t imagine how quicker it is compared to max.
But, nor have uvw functions in Sketchup, neither animations, DOF etc…
Also, there is one variant I’ll maybe do after, which is AH-1Z:
It is probably one of the sexiest combat helicopter in the world…

Well I heard from the very first versions of SketchUp that it was very easy to create 3d objects. Never tried it. Maybe I should.
