New guy again, just learning my way around and having a problem with some sounds…

Most sound effects appear to be working OK and can be adjusted with the sliders on the setup screen, however when I use the " T ’ key and request landing or whatever, I do not hear my voice request or a response from the tower. Nor do I hear the reprimands if I land without permission.

      Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Can you confirm if you are on tower frequency? If not, you´ll never hear tower comms.

OK… Figured out how to input tower frequency to comms, and am now hearing tower…

Apologize if this sounds like I am bitching, but if the detailed modeling calls for setting the correct tower frequency for a training mission, why would you not hear the pilot ( yourself ) when you make a landing request, even if the frequency has not been set correctly? This would give you a clue that the sound system is OK, but that something else is not set up correctly.

There is a selection if you hear your voice or not. Check Falcon4 voice settings.

              Thanks for the response.
Yes, I found that setting and made sure it was on.

My observation, was that it did not seem intuitive that I would not hear my own voice if I was not tuned to the tower, but now that I understand that it is programmed that way in BMSF4, I can move forward with that information.

I have since found where this is documented in the BMS Manual.

I think pilot’s own voice used to be there in Falcon4 original.
Later the default was removed since some number of people think it unrealistic. I personally like it, and have it on. Most of the time I talk to the human pilots anyway… (The wingman phrases can be used for some communication if you have radio breakdown!)

I recommend changing the pilot’s voice in F4 settings. There are a number of selection, and it makes the world feel more lively with some “new” voices.

Go to the data cartage button in the UI.
Click on the coms tab. Select UHF. Scrol to UHF 15. Press Set Tower. Click on save.
It will now be set to that airfield. If you fly from a different airfield you need to go through the above steps again.

when i click on the comms tab, UHF is already selected, in that box the only choices are UHF and VHF so i stick the UHF.

the i press ‘set tower’ and its set 224Mhz or something, can’t remember but looks ok, then save and exit

but in the game i do TT4 and still no voice. i can hear music and engine sounds just fine

                      any ideas?

                      thx

To which channel are setting the “Tower” freq? … is this channel actually set in you ICP?

                        Basically …

Don’t use channel preset at the beginning… and enter directly the freq in ICP. It is easier to understand.

As above And also ensure the coms 1 switch is turned on ie clockwise. Although I can’t think why it should be switched off by default.

Like Dee-jay said, you can keep it simple to start out with.

As an example, from Seosan airbase (say TE#3, take-off), if you enter the cockpit at taxi or takeoff, simply press COM1 on the ICP… note your DED, it should now waiting for data with the highlighted asterisks.

353.1 is the tower frequency for Seosan, so type on the keypad 3531

…then press ENTR. You’ll see the frequency set on the DED.

Now you can talk to the tower.

When you enter the F-16 from taxi or takeoff, the radio panel volumes and switches will be pre-set.

Yeah, I’ve been practicing TE 03 Landing and it was kept so simple that I never had to press COM1 and key in the tower frequency. Just pressed T, 3 to declare an emergency and got a response from the tower. That is, until today. When I finally got a new computer. I went to TE 03 and got all the sounds except a response from the tower. It freaked me out because I got so used to hearing the good luck from the tower that the silence from the tower was scary. I had to wonder could something be wrong with my new machine. So thanks, Wolfkeeper, for clearing out my worst fears about the new computer. Now there’s something nagging me as to why I didn’t have to press COM1 and key in the tower frequency with old computer.

Probably because that tower was already saved so you defaulted to the last settings when you entered the TE. On the new install, you did not have the previous use to default to …… maybe not described correctly technically, but that’s the concept.

Best thing to do, imho, is ALWAYS create and save your DTC in the 2D planning screen then ALWAYS load the DTC when you get in the 3D pit (regardless of Ramp, Runway, In Flight, Dog Fight, Instant Action … ALWAYS load your DTC in the pit).

Yes, Dee Jay, I agree you must know how to use the radio (and a variety of other settings) manually; not relying on the DTC. But the DTC stores MUCH more than radio presets …. any of those not ‘normal’ for a pilot will create confusion … probably at the worst possible moment. Best to start with those ‘norms’ if you can, then adjust from there as needed. imho.

OK, blue. That explains what was nagging me. After I memorized the ramp start, I learned about DTC. So whenever I practiced landing, I always had the DTC loaded to the point that I had forgotten I set the tower frequency in the DTC.
