Early morning flight back to Osan.
-
Trying to escape the miserable weather in Germany, we went for a training flight over the sunny Aegean Sea, escorting a Japanese 4-ship of F4-EJs to the Assimi training range on Crete.
Starting out of Souda, our F16 2-ship took off using the Milos departure procedure and intercepted (or rather, lined up with) the “Smokers” based at Nea Anchialos slightly northwest of Santorini.
Flight Briefing: Nothing out of the ordinary I’d say.
Closing up on our Japanese friends’ flight lead.
The sun & clouds set a fantastic early morning scenery.
Finally joined up and in position.
To think the Phantom is probably older than me and still flying… wow.
Our allies seemed to enjoy themselves, too.
My #2 lining up with the 2nd element.
Time to say good-bye with the Phantoms heading towards Heraklion whle our 2-ship was heading back to Souda. Sadly I lost my wingman to the tanker, but I finally managed to top up again (from 7,000 to 12,200 lbs of fuel), no screenshots of the refuelling as I was concentrating too much I’m afraid 8(
After a safe and relaxed touchdown, the jet is ready for inspection with yours truly already headed for the bar
Thanks again for this fantastic theater and the masterpiece that is fBMS!
All the best, Uwe
