Livrot Mic Command - Preview Release
-
Hello again,
V1.150109 released. No need to get it as I am working on yet another improvement - maybe tomorrow it will be ready.
- low level hotkey recording simplification options created under settings / hotkey - low level and key combo is now preselected ( before: windows system hotkey )
- artificial voice can now be selected if you happen to have other microsoft voices installed
- in the full version enabling the temp macro speech phrases starts speech recognition even with an empty profile.
- a new page with update info regarding the video tutorials has been created on the website under support / update info
The new simplified low level hotkey recording is missing out on DX buttons. This will be fixed tomorrow.
Also I want to create another option to permit for low level key combinations to be recognized if the modifier keys are not pressed in the same order as recorded. Also tomorrow. So better wait for the next version before updating.
Livrot
-
new low level hotkey options:
- record one key/button only
- record key combination or button
- key combination mode
- left shift = right shift
please read the tooltips.
Low Level Hotkeys are now preselected.
regards,
Livrot -
- manual rewritten and updated
- some tooltips rewritten
- settings / log - created new slider for the amount of messages shown
regards,
Livrot -
- ‘use profile settings’ is no longer saved to or loaded from profiles. Makes no sense anymore after the changed functionality.
- ‘enable’ checkbox under settings / macro / ’ temporary macro speech phrases’ restarts the speech recognizer if changed.
- part 3 of the manual rewritten.
- Low Level Hotkey color changed for better readability on dark color themes
this should finish the update - update - update scenario for a while
a lot of cleaning up has been needed after all the new feature implementations and functionality changes.cheers Livrot

well …
one more for the road:
Version V1.150120 released:
- synonym display will no longer be turned on for auto-load profiles. It is only needed for editing and large profiles (3000 + commands) are ready 2 seconds earlier now.
- color schemes reviewed
- crash for too short text input under settings / colour (colour hexadecimal input) fixed.
- VAC profile converter: BREAK key is now translated as {Pause} - before: {Cancel}
-
another one for the road, come on
Version V1.150121 released:
- macro recorder records keypresses again - this got broken some versions ago.
- low level hotkey recording simplifications no longer record left and right mouse buttons. (see tooltips)
Livrot
-
Version V1.150122 full released.
Since the integration of relative mouse move recordings (some days ago) the macro recorder got broken. Fixed.

Hi
Sorry I haven’t given feedback before now, I haven’t had much time to play around with Livrot yet. Just to remind you, I’m running Win 8.1 x64 if that makes any difference.
Firstly, I find the install process quite confusing as it’s not clear to me where Livrot actually installs to and the desktop shortcut doesn’t give any clues as to where it lives. I’ve currently got two shortcuts, one for v1.150122 and the other for v1.150104 and I can have both running simultaneously, so it obviously doesn’t re-use the same folder when I install the newer version. It’s quite different to the way all the other programs I’ve installed work and I imagine if you could make it more similar then it would be less likely to confuse potential users (not just me!) and scare them off.
It also seems to have a habit of saying “Licence not found - did you make a backup?” every time I run it. I did make a backup and I can browse to that or just select the file in Apps/2.0/… which is where it defaults to when the explorer window opens but it will just ask me again next time I launch it.
v1.150122 has fixed what seems to be a bug in v1.150104 where the Confidence slider was initially working across the full range but after a couple of runs decided it’s minimum was going to be 70% and got stuck like that permanently, so I could only adjust it from 70%-100%. With v1.150122 I can adjust it from 0% to 100% and doesn’t go funny at all. Launching v1.150104 and it’s still stuck on 70% minimum but I won’t be using that any more. I’m not sure I’d ever want to set it lower than 70% anyway but nice to see that fixed nonetheless
Unfortunately when it comes to the actual voice recognition it doesn’t seem to do any better than VAC did for me. For example, with Confidence set to 80%, I say Flank Left and it hears Safe with a 98% confidence level! Decreasing my mic boost from 20db to 10db and saying various phrases such as Flank Left, Turn In and it hears Find Cover with 60-68% confidence level (so it rejects it), or Form Vee with a confidence level of 76% and also rejected.
I have spent at least an hour training Microsoft Voice Recognition but it hasn’t seemed to help much. When testing with VAC before, I did have a bit more luck with my PS3 Eye webcam mic than my headset one (even though I’m using a decent high quality capsule mic) but the drivers for that don’t allow for adjusting the volume or boost and being a bit far away on top of my monitor, it tended not to hear me quite a lot which made it just as frustrating. I’ve never seen it suggested in relation to setting up speech recognition for games but I guess if you test it with dictating into a word/text document and it doesn’t do very well, it’s not going to work very well with games either, so maybe that’s a useful check to do before wasting time creating profiles for games. I seem to recall seeing one program that substituted it’s own custom paragraphs to read when training the speech recognition with the Windows tool and those passages contained the words that were likely to be used for a particular game or flight sim, which makes sense as those are the words you need it to recognise.
One feature that VAC has that I haven’t seen in Livrot is the ability to teach it what a specific command sounds like. I never got round to testing that properly as it would obviously take quite a while to go through every command in a profile and teach it how it sounds when I say it but it might be the only way to make it work reliably.
As far as the UI goes, I’m afraid I have to say that Livrot is too scary looking and cluttered for my liking compared to VAC. Obviously it took me a while to learn how to use all of VAC’s features properly and it doesn’t have the Macro features that Livrot does, which account for a lot of the extra options but really the only thing I missed in VAC is Livrot’s Speech tab to allow me to set Confidence level and other settings to improve the quality of the speech recognition. VAC just feels more intuitive to configure and create profiles without baffling me with multiple tabs that I don’t understand but again I recognise that this is at least somewhat unavoidable when offering additional features, it’s just that I personally don’t think I need them, so prefer a more basic but more intuitive interface.
One example of where things can get confusing/frustrating is that Settings displays on top of the individual command parameters part of the editor, so I was selecting commands in the editor and wondering how on earth I was meant to edit them until by chance I clicked on Hide Settings and was then able to see the parameters for the command I had selected. Another example, when I right-click on a command and select Synonyms Show/Hide, I get a popup “Enable synonyms first”, with no clue how to do that. Eventually I see the Synonyms tab and enable them from there but really, if I’m asking to Show them then it seems obvious I want them to be enabled if that’s required before they can be shown, so it could just do that automatically without bothering me with popups and making me do it myself. When Hiding them again, it could ask if I want to also disable them or just leave me to do that later manually but that’s another reason why it’s generally better IMHO to avoid multiple tabs as much as possible and keep all the options in one place, where the user can clearly see what’s enabled or disabled.
Anyway, I don’t want to put anyone off who’s thinking of trying Livrot, particularly if they have complex needs which VAC doesn’t cater for, or they haven’t already tried VAC and so haven’t learnt a different way of doing things that might be hard to transfer to Livrot. I’m sure I’ll keep experimenting with it myself to see if I can get speech recognition working any better with it than VAC but I do seem to have issues getting any software to understand me properly, so I might just have to stop wasting my time and focus on building a cockpit with lots of buttons and switches instead

Thank you very much doveman for a long awaited feedback on LMC on Windows 8.
The application is quite young and needs this kind of feedback to round of the edges. Enabling synonyms on demand got noted.
You did not even read the manual. Updating is well explained and the license question would not occure then.
LMC is extremely flexible and this flexibility comes at a cost.
How can we fly an F-16 ? For Falcon we have to learn forever. For LMC I have been going through the effort of recording about 150 minutes of video tutorials three times.
I do not know how much time you have invested in LMC but you should maybe consider trying to learn how to use LMC or stick with VAC.
There are many things in LMC that you can not do with VAC. And I do not know of anything in VAC that LMC does not have.
I have 85 - 90 percent recognition results mostly using an old microsoft VX1000 webcam mic - but when I give the commands I try not to mumble.
Also in the settings/speech tab please pull the sliders over the black tringle mark points for reliable results. In a few days a new feature will be released: The macro editor.
LMC should be sold for 49 dollars (or more) to justify the pricing of VAC.
cheers

As I told in the last post: Read the manual first, please.
This was planned for some time now: For the next Version you only have to point to the backup once. LMC will copy the backup for you. The manual will be updated to reflect the simplified procedure.v1.150122 has fixed what seems to be a bug in v1.150104 where the Confidence slider was initially working across the full range but after a couple of runs decided it’s minimum was going to be 70% and got stuck like that permanently, so I could only adjust it from 70%-100%. Yes, this got fixed intentionally

In windows 7 next to the calculator and stuff there is a small sound recorder. Please record your voice and play it back to get an impression of the sound quality that you throw at VAC and LMC.
Also once you have a good sound:- get the microsoft personal trained voice profile update tool (bottom of livrot.com main page) and make a backup off your training effort so far.
- i do not know if it is possible but if you find a way: erase your actual voice profile and train again once or twice with the new good sound, also try to articulate clear like news speakers do, but do not speak slower than normal.
- set the sliders under settings / speech on the black triangle marks
and check again.

I never got round to testing that properly as it would obviously take quite a while to go through every command in a profile and teach it how it sounds when I say it but it might be the only way to make it work reliably.
I would like to know if it improves anything but the speaker itself

If you like the XP style and a non intuitive user interface with very small fonts without tooltips of VAC than you must be the exception that should fast speak up on the dwvac forum. Everyone else has complained about VACs way of creating commands. VAC is from 2006 I believe. It does cost 19 dollar. You got LMC for free. If you would have paid for LMC you might have given it some more effort.
VAC can send out key combinations and mouse buttons point. Thats the end of VACs feature list. Hey, I just thought you have found a real flaw in LMC. I thought that when you start LMC and hit settings and then go into the editor that you still see the settings.
Not true.
You have been in the editor and then you have clicked on the settings only to wonder where the editor controls have been gone??? Maybe you have been close to bedtime?
The ‘enable synonyms first mesage’ pop up is true and annoying and will get fixed.Anyway, I don’t want to put anyone off who’s thinking of trying Livrot, particularly if they have complex needs which VAC doesn’t cater for, or they haven’t already tried VAC and so haven’t learnt a different way of doing things that might be hard to transfer to Livrot. I am shure that you will come and stay on LMC. For example you can use the real world like radio talk with callsigns, ATC names adopted to every mission just by speaking the actual callsign and tower plus alternate into the microphone on the ramp. Also for a lot of desktop tasks LMC is a strong macro tool with enormous hotkey flexibilities. To be discovered.
Thanks for your time and honest words!
Livrot -
V1.150130 released:
- New feature: macro editor with many extras
- New feature: macro testing with breakpoints
- New feature: macro converter and scaler
- Simplified update procedure:
If asked ‘Did you make a backup?’ just click ‘YES’ and browse to the license key backup.
LMC will copy the license to the apps folder for you. - Command editor: only the paste hotkey demands a focused item in the command list (if not a message is being shown now)
all other functions no longer need the focus to be set.
Previously the cut/copy/paste/delete functions did nothing without a command being focused. Fixed. - Synonym show / hide and synonym display now turn on synonym enable automatically but with a message box for the user
- ‘?’ tooltips rewritten on the ‘synonyms’ and ‘variables’ tab
- Temporary macro recorder: wrong event types have been selected for temp mouse / keyboard recording. Fixed.
- The ‘record’ button did record the last mouse click / keypress when recording and clicking on it to stop. Fixed.
- Loading a profile with macro commands in the free version did not set a command type.
Changed. Now the macro is translated to plain text. - Using ‘Load Cmd’ did not set the hotkey of the selected command. Fixed.
- While editing a macro command and clicking ‘New’ to create a new command showed a plain text comand with macro delay.
Fixed. - Tooltip of the delay slider updated.
Thanks for your support,
Livrot

Firstly, thank you for taking my feedback in good spirits. I appreciate it is hard to read criticism, even when it’s mean to be constructive, of one’s baby
Hey, I just thought you have found a real flaw in LMC. I thought that when you start LMC and hit settings and then go into the editor that you still see the settings.
Not true.
You have been in the editor and then you have clicked on the settings only to wonder where the editor controls have been gone??? Maybe you have been close to bedtime?Yes, my mistake, sorry. As you say, I must have clicked Settings after entering the Editor and it’s not something that would confuse a new user once he’s learnt that the Settings box overlays the Editor box.
Nonetheless, it can be a bit confusing that when the Editor is open, the Settings button overlays it and the Hide Settings button returns to the Editor pane, whilst if the Editor isn’t open, the Hide Settings button reduces the window size and goes back to the Log window. I suppose the question is, does it benefit the user to leave the left-hand editor list visible whilst in Settings? If not, it might be better when the user clicks Setttings with the Editor open, for it to go to the same view as clicking Settings from the Log window does (i.e. Log on the left, Settings on the right), with the Editor button at the bottom of that view, as it is now, for if the user wants to go back to the Editor. Going to Settings from the Editor should, as now, neither Store nor Undo any changes, as the OK and Cancel buttons do but just leave it in the same state as if the user had never left the Editor. It might not seem worth the effort of changing it but if you can keep the GUI and what the buttons do consistent and not doing different things depending on what view they’re clicked from, I believe that makes the interface more user-friendly.
I shall certainly read the manual and watch the videos you have gone to so much effort to create, so that I can learn how to use LMC to it’s full potential. When doing an initial evaluation of a program’s intuitiveness however, it is better to just dive in without having read the manual, to see how intuitive the GUI is and how easy it is to understand how to perform basic operations without the manual.
Certainly I agree that VAC isn’t perfect and the command entry method is very cumbersome, having to build it by selecting from multiple dropdowns. Having said that, it’s not obvious to me that it’s any easier in LMC to create an Action that includes Extended/Qualifier keys either, like LShift+LCtrl+C. The easiest method I’ve come across was actually in the MS keyboard hotkey software, where you click on a box once with the mouse and then press and hold the keys in order, i.e. LShift then LCtrl then C and when you release them it enters that combination in the box. If it comes out wrong, you just click on the box and try again and if you accidentally click on the box, I think pressing ESC cancels the process and leaves the previously set command in place.
One thing I do prefer in VAC is the way it shows all the information on one screen, so I don’t have to flick through multiple tabs to access it. From these screenshots of VAC and LMC, with my Falcon BMS profile imported into LMC, you can see that in VAC it shows the Command Name, all the Activation Phrases and the Output Command all on one screen, whereas in LMC I have to go to the Synonyms tab to see the Activation Phrases (or click Show Synonyms, which makes the list rather messy and as the warning says, could slow down the program).
IMHO, it would be better if the box in the right-hand pane labelled “texts” was used for entering/showing the Activation Phrases for the selected command (rather than the command name and category, which are already shown in the Editor list anyway), with at least a Delete button underneath, which there’s plenty of free space for (Add probably isn’t needed as the list goes up to 99 already), so that the user can edit the Phrases/Synonyms in the same tab. Then the Show/Hide synonyms in the list function could be removed and avoid the risk of it slowing things down. The Synonyms tab could still be retained for more complex editing, creating groups, etc, if this is necessary. I would also suggest that the Command Name, which is shown in the above screenshot under the “text 1” column, should be at the beginning of the line (with a header “Command” and “(command name)” removed from after each command), as this is the name the user chooses for each Command and thus probably what he wishes to use as the user-friendly name to find/sort by, followed by Phrase and then Action, with the Category at the end. It would also be useful if we could hide the “type”, “hotkey” and “response” columns if we’re not using them, to make the list easier to read.
So to sum up what I’m suggesting, in the right-hand pane for creating commands, have boxes to enter Command Name (instead of Command Phrase), Action and Category, with Phrases entered in the bottom box currently labelled “texts” and in the left-hand list pane, show Command, the first Phrase and then Action, with Category at the end and maybe at least the option to hide type, hotkey and response and just show them in the right-hand pane for the currently selected command.
- There seems to be a bug with importing VAC profiles, as if I start with an empty profile I can see the Action box under Command Phrase. Actually, if I click New to create a new command with my imported VAC profile loaded, the Action box shows up but only for the new command and when I select an imported command it disappears again. If you compare the screenshot below, with the newly created command selected, with the one above, with the imported VAC command selected, it appears the problem is that the VAC commands are imported as a Macro, so if you could make it import them as plain text instead, that should hopefully fix it. *
I think maybe a “New” button to start a new profile might be useful, as currently it seems we have to click Cancel to back out of the Editor and then go back into it to get it empty. In fact, this doesn’t always appear to wipe the profile completely, as you can see from this screenshot it’s left some settings from the previous profile hanging about. On another occasion, the entire profile was still showing after clicking Cancel and going to back to Editor, even after repeated attempts but closing and re-launching LMC seems to have fixed that.
Certainly I believe that the ability in VAC to teach it (or more precisely, teach the MS Speech Recognition engine) what a specific command sounds like when spoken is useful and should help it to understand difficult words or distinguish between similar sounding phrases. Obviously I haven’t been able to test how well it works due to my general problems with speech recognition and my mic but in principle it would seem useful and something you might like to consider adding to LMC.
I also find the Export to text function in VAC somewhat better than LMC’s at the moment I’m afraid, as it allows me to export Actions and Phrases, Actions and Keystrokes and Phrases or a Custom list which lets me include one or more of Keyword, Phrases, Category and Commands. This allows me to create very clean and easy to read/print text documents and I tend to use Actions and Phrases or Custom - Phrases only and then maybe tidy them up a bit before printing. If it would be helpful, I could send you some examples of the VAC text exports. There’s certainly room for improvement over VAC’s method though and I think it would be quite easy to format the output better so that no manual tidying up is necessary or at least reduced.
Whilst my mic might not be the best, it’s better than many cheap mics as I bought a high quality capsule mic made by a well-known brand and wired it up myself. The soundcard does introduce some noise/hiss but that’s normal and even USB mics can suffer from this, depending on how good their built-in ADC is. It’s actually possible to enable “Listen to Mic” under the Mic Properties in Windows, so that I can hear how it sounds directly, albeit with a delay which makes talking a bit difficult but it’s a bit quicker than making a recording to play back. My friends are able to hear me clearly on TeamSpeak but it becomes difficult finding a volume that works well for both TeamSpeak and voice recognition, as the latter seems to prefer it a bit quieter and then it’s hard for people to hear me on voice comms, so I guess I really need two mics! As I mentioned, the PS3 Eye webcam mic did seem to correctly recognise what I was saying more often than my headset mic but as it is some way from my mouth and has no volume adjustment, it also sometimes didn’t hear me properly, or at all, so I guess I’ll have to look for something else. I don’t really want two headsets mics hanging off my headphones! I’ll try adjusting the sliders under settings / speech first as you suggest though.
I do already have the profile backup software thanks and it is actually possible to create new blank profiles without deleting the existing one and select which one is active (I created separate ones for my headset mic and webcam mic) but as I’ve spent probably an hour training it already (speaking very clearly), I doubt it will improve if I start from scratch.
Anyway, I hope you find this further feedback constructive and useful and thank you for your hard work producing LMC and your videos. :headb:
-
Thanks for the feedback, doveman.
Just sit back and wait, something new is being produced which will render the above suggestions obsolete. (two weeks maybe)
Not only due to your feedback but also due to a test installation of Voice Attack I have to admit.
The actual ‘detail’ view of the command has been created in the very early days of LMC. A new approach is coming along fine so far.FYI:
- A ‘plain text command’ can only send lisible characters. So no key combinations or ‘Backspace’ etc…
- Synonym display slows down the editors responsiveness by 1 second if you have more than 1000 commands
- Learn how to use the temporary macro to record a new command. (macro video tutorial)
To record key combinations you would just hit the temp keyboard macro hotkey and press your key combination, release it and wait for your configured record stop delay to stop the recorder.
Then just paste the temp macro to the commandlist and give the command a phrase. - The Cancel Button in the editor leaves the editor and restores the comandlist which was shown when you entered the editor (empty maybe. Thanks for spotting the bug still showing info of previous selected command!)

Cool, sounds great. I’m excited to see what you come up with.
I actually noticed that with my imported VAC BMS profile loaded, I can click on Hotkey and enter combos, like LCtrl+LShift+C but with a blank profile it stops after pressing one key, like LCtrl. I’m guessing this is because the imported VAC profile has imported the commands as Macros and having the existing command as a Macro allows the Hotkey to record more than one key. Having said that, if I Clear the command so that it resets to Plain Text Output mode, I can still record multiple keys using Hotkey. Actually, even if I create a new command it lets me record multiple keys using Hotkey and even after Cancelling and going back into the blank editor it does and indeed after closing LMC and re-opening it and starting with a blank editor, so it may just have been a bug that only allowed me to enter one key the first time I launched LMC this evening.
Anyway, I need to go and watch your videos to learn what Hotkey is actually designed for If it is meant to be used for sending key combos, whereas Action is only for sending single keys (or strings thereof, such as qqc), then IMHO it would be less confusing to merge the Action and Hotkey fields, so that there’s only one place where the user has to enter the required output command. Maybe this could be done by having a Combo tickbox next to it, so that with it unticked the user can enter single keys or strings thereof and with it ticked, a key Combo as Hotkey currently allows.

Doveman, actualy you have found out about the real purpose of LMC. It’s meant to make you laugh.
Just fire it up, click around and laugh your ass off :uham:Of course you could do this with adobe photoshop or 3Dmax or the likes, even with falcon ; ) but why not with LMC?
Do not read the manual and avoid watching those video tutorials please - it would ruin all the funregards,
Livrot -
Livrot,
at that time, the display actions of macros in my profile are something like “e,ee,e&,&”.
that means that Press and release actions are displayed. After a lot of time playing with options, I can’t find what to do to have only press actions displayed.
I am sure it is quite obvious, but can’t really find the way. Please, could you give me a hand for that?
Windblow
PS : I have updated my profile on your site. you can delete the previous one if you want.

Hello Wingedsky,
I will create such an option.
It will be realeased with the next major update in about two weeks.Looks like a lot of work went into your new profile. Thank you very much for publishing it!
I will take down the old one soon.regards,
Livrot
-
Heads Up!
Soon there will be no more update for the free version as ‘the plain text’ commands are no longer supported in the future.
From the next upcoming version onwards the full version can be used by anyone who has an account at livrot.com.
The accounts without purchase (or without donated access:) ) do not receive a license key to be saved, only a license for a one time use. (need to connect to livrot.com before every program start)Do not sit too tight, the next version still needs time (approx two weeks).
regards,
Livrotps: just ask if you want your account to be ‘full’ - cheers!
-
I am still stretching the second week a bit. Closing in, though. Thanks for the support 'Ara !
Prepare for multi clipboards and macro programming, please.
cheers,
