Falcon BMS Alternative Launcher (Easy Setup, Keep Joystick Assignments)

@Icer it seems to be working but I read in BMS 4.36 chnagelog that the 32 buttons limit for buttons number per device had been extended to 128.
It does not seem to work with alternative launcher yet.
But on alternative launcher GitHub page, the readme screenshots are labeled 2.1.0 so …perhaps it is coming ? -
@tango4 yes 2.1.0 supports 128dx but I made some bugs while updating it so I need to fix them.
-
Thx, Chiri.
Icer, Yessir to you. I had absolutely no problem setting up my 4.36 HOTAS with 2.0, 32 dx and all.
It will be interesting how the increased dx will effect set up -
@drtbkj. The DX set up in BMS worked well- up till now. With 4.36 DX works in the UI , but in game my assignments disappear. Should I try Alternative Launcher?
-
@chihirobelmo thanks a lot, great news !

@danster . I am a big fan of AL, so I recommend it. There is one thing about AL to keep in mind. When you Launch via AL it overrides UI. So, if you set something via the UI, then launch AL, it will disappear. However, once you set things up in AL, then Launch into 3D, on subsequent Launches you can go in with the regular UI Launcher.
-
Now that my binding scheme is kinda settling, I’m wondering for future bms release if there’s a way to port my bindings, joystick assignments, without having to rebind it all?
-
@drtbkj Thank you. Sounds like I need to wait for the AL update mentioned above by Chihirobelmo and then give it a try. I’ve only heard good things about it.

I use the standard DX32 of the Warthog in AL 2.0 because I can use the “Release” function to get all switch positions to work… but I use a TARGET DX128 script for every other sim, so once you get the bugs ironed out I’ll likely switch over to “2.1.x” and I will modify the bindings. Until then it is a non-issue for me, thank you!

Installed Version 2.0 today after installing BMS 4.36. brilliant program @chihirobelmo

You’re very welcome. If you want to get in the air, 2.0 will get the job done. Like Icer wrote, the release function comes in real handy.

@drtbkj Worked well at first , but I messed something up and after vanilla re installs of BMS 4.36 and AL 2.0 received this error message: "Application Initialisation completed successfully (Exception) . Could not find a part pf the path “C/Falcon BMS 4.33 UI/Date/Terrdata/Theater definition/theatre.Ist”
So AL not working now. Any ideas?

I think there may be an issue with AL seeing 4.33 U1 being installed when it actually isn’t. I did not have your error but I did have 4.33 U1 as a choice in Alt Launcher 2.0… but it is NOT installed! I went into the Registry and did a “Find” on BMS 4.33 for the entire registry and found several instances of pointers to non-existent folders, which I deleted (also deleted the 4.34 entries I saw as I only have 4.35.3 and 4.36 installed). Likely the big offender is
“Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Benchmark Sims\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1”. No idea why this was there as 4.34 was not… but it may be your issue. Before registry “cleaning” -

@Icer Thank you for your patience! Cleared the registry. Reinstalled 4.36, launched it then installed AL. Same error…
A pity because it worked beautifully with 4.36 at first .

You got the “Application Initialisation completed successfully (Exception) . Could not find a part pf the path “C/Falcon BMS 4.33 UI/Date/Terrdata/Theater definition/theatre.Ist” error again? Sorry, i’m at a complete loss why a fresh installation of AL 2.0 would have any idea of what 4.33 U1 is , let alone be looking for it’s theater.lst if it is not installed and not listed anywhere in the registry.
-
@Icer I see Al has created a 4.33 U1 folder. I assume that’s part of the normal AL setup, but has a path issue.

Where do you see that? I know in my case AL 2.0 picked up the listing from the registry as it vanished as soon as I deleted the keys. I have no 4.33 (or 4.34/4.35/4.36 ) folder other than the main C:\Falcon BMS 4.36 folder created by C:\Falcon BMS 4.36 Setup\setup.exe ? Only folder the Falcon.BMS.Alternative.Launcher.Setup.msi (installer) created that I know of is the “C:\Program Files\Benchmark Sims\Falcon BMS Alternative Launcher” folder, and the “Stock” sub-folder with all the setup files…
-
@Icer AL 2.0 has, I assume, created a folder( with several subfolders and an axismapping dat file) called Falcon BMS 4.33 UI on my C drive- right above my Falcon BMS 4.36 folder. Am I going crazy? I have no other BMS installs. If I delete AL its still there. If I uninstall and reinstall AL there’s no such folder until I try to run AL, in which case I get the error message, and see that a 4.33 folder is now installed. i.e. AL creates the folder when I try to run it. I see Al does create a folder FalconBMSAlternative Launcher under Users AppData Roaming

No, your not, and now I see that there is a C:\Falcon BMS 4.33 U1 folder with a User subfolder!! Thing is all the folders are empty. I’m at a total loss why it is doing that, I think there may have been an error on the authors part… makes 0 sense.
