[4.32.7] - Immortal tanker TACAN - BUG

Simple test : go in a rampage in the refueling TE.
Take the AA TACAN for your wingman (85Y), shoot him -> DED TACAN distance goes off.
Take the AA TACAN for the tanker (29Y), shoot him -> DED TACAN distance stays on.Further testing shows the tanker TACAN remains at the position where it has been shot down. Works also in Instant Action -> not a TE pb.
I guess wingmen get shot down more frequently than tankers, hence this hasnt been noticed.
In previous version of Falcon, this would have been immediatly seen, as non hardcore simers and hard refueling dont go along very well :uham:Not very important, unless you try in campaign to refuel on a tanker which get shot down in between your TACAN request to the Awacs and visual. Very circunstancial then.
(No, its not how i noticed it, i just wanted to see how big 200 000 lbs of fuel exploded. I was disappointed though :uham:)

I think I may have seen a similar sympton in campaign. Tanker ‘should’ be there according to TACAN and/or AWACS, but it’s not … maybe it got shot down?

KTO. I hadnt tested it in any other theater.
But as the TACAN beacon is part of the tanker (ie : you dont have to add it manually, i think) it wouldn’t make a difference.

This happens in all theaters. Tested in Balkans, Aegean and ITO with different tankers (Kc-135 and KC-10) and different AA TACANs.

I might have an explanation. Originally, TACAN beacons in F4 were reserved for airbases and tankers.
So the object “TACAN beacon” was probably immortal (as ground TACAN are not supposed to be destroyed), and while ground TACANs had a fixed position, tanker TACAN were probably just “attached” to the localization of the tanker.
The BMS TACAN coders then added them for regular aircrafts and didnt forget to destroy this object after the “parent” aircraft died.
For tankers, they didnt check if when the tanker disappeared, the TACAN did as well.
This needs verification… to be continued

well ground TACAN should be destroyed also… sure we discussed it along tower comms and the out come was that there are and backup mobile systems… but should go off for some time… till the backups get online.

Indeed. Just to point out a probable origin of this bug. But I agree, ground TACAN should be off if a particular building was down (say, the tower).
Another way : multiply TACAN range by the operational status of the base. A bit artificial, but why not.

this was the case for me the other day. and i went WELL out of my way for some coke. made it back with much to spare though.

Sadly I acknowledge having at least 500 Tanker kills, they just get soooooo frustrating.
