HMCS markpoint realism?

A long time ago someone told me it’s possible to select a markpoint target with the HMCS in a real F16. Is this correct?
I’m very happy with the STPT delta additions among a ton of other features (trees, I’m looking at you). Cheers.

Yes, that is true. The common practice IRL is to look at the target with your eyes/head, drop a mark, and then refine the mark with the TGP.

Looks like we’re pretty close to that from the code perspective, though. Selecting a target via HMCS is just a single instance of raycasting [1]. The architecture for dlink + markpoints + offsets is already there. This looks like a small addition, when it takes place.
[1] Or just UV mapping to the ground texture
