Training Manual

bobbydevo - when your arms get tired you really should stop digging the hole your in …
-
Please be mindful of the rules people, particularly No.7; notwithstanding the ‘Hatchet job’, which Red Dog is addressing.
Of course the manuals aren’t finished, that’s what ‘work in progress’ means. Let’s hope they are never finished, because that would mean that BMS is no longer being developed.
Anyway, I’m not sure how much more clear we could have made it:
BMS-Manual (page 2): “It is still considered a WIP document and will be updated in line with forthcoming BMS updates.”
BMS-Training (page 151): “As always with BMS this manual is a work in progress and will be continued soon.”
-1 (page 2): “This document will be updated in accordance with BMS releases. You should consider the Dash 1 as a work in progress.”
-34 (page 2): “This manual is a work-in-progress and will naturally evolve over time.”
-
Honestly, we love you Red Dog for your time, your effort, and for everything you did for us and for bms community ….this goes for everyone and each one who helped to keep this beautiful simulation still alive and getting everyday better and better …SO THANK YOU, ALL OF YOU .:bowd:

@RD: I bet that for every single person complaining about the fine manuals, there’s a hundred or more quietly enjoying the fruits of your hard labour!
Thanks for all that you’re doing for the BMS community, I’m certain it’s much appreciated.

I wish that products I bought came close to the quality of bms falcon and its support. Sad truth is support of products we pay for can’t hold a candle to the support there is for bms. I very much appreciate all that is bms.

What !!! a lot of stuff is left out - I want my money back !!! ho no wait a min …. BMS is free … oopps ;0)
Oh, come on Ironman! Just because it’s free doesn’t mean the devs can be off slackin’!! Where’s the queue for the refunds?!!?
@RD: I bet that for every single person complaining about the fine manuals, there’s a hundred or more quietly enjoying the fruits of your hard labour!
The problem with these people is that they’re too busy enjoying BMS to be coming here and expressing their pleasure and gratitude! The nerve!!

There is a job, and then there is passion.

Looking back at these posts I have a couple issues. At no point did I demand the training manual be finished- you read that wrong. I asked for a time frame. When? The answer being that it could be done in 3-4 weeks or a year or its done as its gonna get… I asked my question a few times because I wasn’t getting an answer.
Yea, your all right in calling me out on the half a game thing. It should’ve been thirds- One third learning aircraft systems, one third to the ground game and the last third to the air game.
I don’t give a hoot if anyone is making money off these manuals. They wrote them up, go ahead and charge what they think its worth. People will still buy them.
I sure as hell was not being belligerent in my questions. The belligerence began after my posts.
So one more question: Are the dash 1 and dash 34 done like the training manual is done or are they actually done?
F*#&!:%…Why talk to Red Dog? He is actually communicating how this made him feel. many just quietly mumble ‘screw this’ and walk off.
bobbydevo, You made him feel like your monkey, and so now he doesnt feel like doing the thing he used to do that you freely enjoyed. makes sense really, doesnt it?
Since theres apparently a deep need for written-content here, (so you dont need skills in code, or graphics, literally any dipshit could help do this completionist worktask, at contribute) and you dont even offer to contribute.
Whats your RL job?
Im a code developer and i hate it when anybody acts like that to me. ‘Oh youre a mechanic? fix my car’ ‘Hey you do roofwork? fix my roof, when can i expect it, oh you did it wrong’ - Does any of that sound normal? Why do people think that because im at a keyboard, that what im doing is something less than HARD WORK. Is it the T-Shirt?
I work in silicon valley, and do you know how much we pay for a technical writer’s time? about 600 per day. (and they dont even rush for that lol) -
But the whole “I don’t make money” thing? I mean… c’mon buddy, don’t lie about you not making money on the manual. It’s hilarious to think you could honestly get away with that! Come clean
Pathetic comment.
Why don’t you live your life Red Dog and let them burn in hell is over me. (?) Let them write their own shit and publish their video tutorials … This is all what “they” deserve really. Sometimes I even wonder why we are sharing BMS if it is to read that kind of shit.
I vote: close the forum, lets go back to the good old days when we were happy working together in the small committee.
Lets take some holidays … we have nothing to earn/loose
There is DCS F-18 for the rest of the world …

What’s pathetic is that i have been checking this topic daily hoping to see Hatchet’s apologies.
He’s read this and although he was quick to make accusations, he’s certainly not quick to apologize.
Wonderful world we live in, with wonderful ppl. -

F*#&!:%…Get out from here. … Don’t buy anyhing ever releared to Falcon4, uninstall BMS, and give us holyday … Go to DCS or play the game you want.
BMS has nothing to sell, Red Dog do not earn any penny, so you : the “customer” … We don’t care if you have lost 20$ … We really don’t give a shit … “Support” you won’t get any support from us. -

Wonderful world we live in, with wonderful ppl.Red Dog … I propose you and I, Jp also, for tonight … We foccus on our wives and kids … No BMS shit, no forum, no sknin textures, no UI, no beta test, no bug-tracker, no ****ing dash-34 of my ass …
Lets close the internet browser, switch off the computer and enjoy a bit of time with real good time … I am sure you need a break like many of us from this ****ing dev team. Let them go funk themselves … Simply.Good evening brother!
Switching off and see ya later … And please, do me a favor, don’t care anymore about the training missions database code and stuff … Just relax for tonight. -
no no no! please no…. don’t vote for BMS to take a vacation, and just ignore some vile squeaky wheels complainants! I bet loads of us are as extremely happy as me with all the progress and effort put in by folks like RD and all other Devs.
I have tried to write a manual before on just much simpler subjects, and its no cake walk. you can spend years and get a million things right, but focus seems to always be on the one thing that is causing this “squeaky wheel” complaint.
Well I for one vote RD did a excellent job so far, and even if some folks complain,
There is DCS F-18 for the rest of the world …
I live in the rest of the world and DCS is not good enough. keep on it guys I am impressed every time I start up BMS.
-
The time and effort of the developers are surely appreciated by a large majority who are not vocal in these forums.

Childish complains about a free great job
No answer is need -
Dear BMS team,
I really do appreciate your hard work and dedication.Thanx
Sunnny -
To the BMS team, I wish to apologies for not having voiced my gratitude and appreciation for this incredible simulation, at no charge. I am an expert in no field, but it does not take an expert to be impressed by the work you have done, for free. I am equally impressed by the patients and tolerance, for free, you have demonstrated in handling the unalloyed, unadulterated, , unmistakably arrogant corrosive conduct of some members on the forum.

As a user of Lulu, I know that this is a lie.
Here’s Reddogs page on Lulu: http://www.lulu.com/en/shop/olivier-beaumont/bms-433-training-manual-soft-cover-full-colours/paperback/product-22627376.html
He sells the book for $29.77 USD. Fair enough. This is WITHOUT shipping cost included by the way.
Here’s the customer enquiry page for quotes on books. It gives actual book manufacturing costs, not estimates. The great thing about Lulu is that these costs are constant from initial formation of books to final publishing. They don’t change.
http://www.lulu.com/create/books
Let’s take a look at the manufacturing cost of his book. Scroll halfway down the page and enter ‘152 pages’, this is the number of pages Reddog has written for his manual. It’ll give you a figure but the size is incorrect. So after that, scroll to the bottom of the page, click on full ‘color on white’ under the Interior Print column and then select ‘A4’ in the product size.
Well, what do you know? Total manufacturing cost for a full color A4 book is $9.71.
But wait, we’re not done yet. Go to this page next because this will outline the total cost to Lulu when you sell through their website: http://www.lulu.com/sell - and also here which outlines their commission: http://connect.lulu.com/en/discussion/33139
In the first box for the first link, you’ll see how much Lulu makes on each copy in total. The base cost, which is the manufacturing cost to Lulu, plus the Lulu share, which is 20% of the net profit Reddog makes on each copy. The 2nd link outlines commission.
So Reddog sells his book for $29.77. The manufacturing cost is $9.71. So minus the sale, he makes $20.06 on each copy.
Now for commission, which is splits the net profit 80/20 between the creator/lulu, 20% of this profit amount is $4.01 which goes back to Lulu.
Therefore for each sale of this Training manual, Reddog makes $16.05 for each copy sold. Note that this DOES NOT include postage. That comes in addition to the total cost of the purchase.
I knew something was suss when I read Reddogs reaction to the OP. A little research on the matter reveals that he’s been spinning a bit of a lie to the community at the same time. I mean hey, he did write the training manual so it is his property, I don’t know how you guys feel about that but for my part, no offense by me is taken.
But the whole “I don’t make money” thing? I mean… c’mon buddy, don’t lie about you not making money on the manual. It’s hilarious to think you could honestly get away with that! Come clean
I can not believe you said that.
Reddog i would like to thank you and the rest of the team who spend days and night doing the work we all benefit from.
I personaly dont give a toss even if you sell your manual for a profit because this is your baby and your work and you deserve every penny and every credit for that
Thanks for everything you do for the enjoyment of this community :woohoo::bowd: -
Red Dog Vf-1… I salute you. Bought your manuals on Lulu and would be glad if you earn some from that (you should!). I am very grateful for you and the dev team, will be patiently waiting for any updates, hope I could help in some way.
