Vietnam Theater

OK main problem in the campaign as i see it is Dong Hoi (first NVA city) and Ninh Binh witch is up North. Units dont go there if they not human controlled and ok the first one can be cheated and put two units and paint it south by saying we did an Spec-ops opertion and we go it. If that isnt taken the units wont go except the next one this one is beeing ignored for some reason whatever the trigger file is writing… I dont know if it has anything to do with “nowhere” ? I dont know how things changed but i do remember that this nowhere was problematic. Therefore i did some work in the terrain did a little touch in the mountains it they seem more like mountains and not hills.ill post a photo in the next days… The first city to my opinion can’t be changed… The other i havent try another one to see ho it will act… we will see…

I dont know if its realistic but i was feeling that in general the theater was too flat This is somwhere between SV and Laos… Heading back to Pleiku…

yeah Vnam terrain is quite flat - i used to fly in Google Earth to have the picture of “how Vnam terrain look like”.
and yes Dong Hoi is and odd bottleneck, cannot fix it since many years ago.

It seems like Trai Ha Kau and maybe Ninh Binh is as well but there i have alternatives to add to the trigger file. in Dong Hoi only alternative is to do what i said “hack” the game. I dont kjnow if adding only Saigon and Hanoi will work.
I wish i had the source files for the terrain i would try to “remake” from scratch the whole thing… -

Havent worked on the map so much yet. Cause i haven made the terrain as i want. Meaning. I probably start from scratch. There’s a lot issues in the original

OK i have to major issues (obviously i need to re-do the objectives as well) therefore even i did tiled the whole terrain in game it seems it is off, i used the terrain exported from dem2terrain any ideas on that?

The terrain doesn’t get exported from dem2terrain.
It’s laid down by the terrain.bin and the terrain texture’s randomly when you create a theater, it just fills it in.
Sadly, that is where manual tiling begins, that’s another big issue with 128 segment theaters, it’s a ton of work!
There are way’s to make it easier, even then, it’s a huge job….this is where most novice theater builders end up stuck!!

Here a first flight up in the mountainous North… Still need a bit more height in mountains…
Also to do list : Relocate objectives (not all of them those that are off completely) level airbases and fix minor hickups here and there in tiling… Tile set used the old 4.32 vietnam one and its good i think… greener than the current one as i i see in almost all satelite images of Vietnam. Might make a new set i dont know yet if it isnt too much for my paygrade Im open to suggestions ill post some plains hotos as well later… need to fix some stuff first

The original ones (vietnam 4.34) are to “dry” and too brown for my taste, i tried Korean i dont think they match to the theater… I find those (vietnam 4.32 Beta) Much better in all aspects to my taste at least and also they have some variation i can use (after all they are more than 1000 tiles if i remember correct). I will see as i said i might make completely new sets for it…
