Trim Problem
-
Good evening to all members and moderators of Falcon, I’m writing this topic for a problem that has persisted for a long time on Falcon.
I have a Saitek X52, I set all the Trim commands etc …
But sometimes we go crazy and the plane starts to turn up or down, left or right alone!
It is very difficult to keep it stable, but after a few minutes resolves itself.
It 'very bad when I do formation flights, there is a way to solve?
Please help me -
Stop using the Saitek software as a ‘keyboard emulator’. Set trim via BMS DX commands …. set everything you can via BMS DX commands.
IMHO.

Hey Pier
I also have the X52 (Pro) and use the profile generously provided by “hard-Deck” –> https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?7909-Saitek-X-52-Profileswitching to mode 3 and using TMS left/right performs left/right trim. the keyboard can also be used with the (:; ) key for left and the (|) key for right.
NEVER use the cockpit switches on the left back panel. As per the -1 manual, page 16…
“The MAN TRIM wheels and knobs can be interfaced through keystrokes, mouse clicks or analogue
hardware such as potentiometers. The later solution gives much better and smooth results. A little
warning about mouse clicks: the way they are implemented is almost impossible to manage correctly
in flight and should be avoided. Left click start the trim movement and right click stop the trim action
and start the action in the opposite way. If you need to use the MANUAL TRIMS, do it with keystrokes
or analogue devices, not the mouse.” -

How please. If it involves this spreadsheet you say to use I am SOL because it doesn’t have the X-55 on it. If you are telling me I have to spend two hours generating id’s to use, then I am going to say to you: NO.

SimTrimNoseUp //Pitch UP
SimTrimNoseDown //Pitch DOWN
SimTrimRollLeft //Roll LEFT
SimTrimRollRight //Roll RIGHT
SimTrimYawLeft //YAW LEFT
SimTrimYawRight //YAW RIGHT -

Shouldn’t be needed. All you need to do is have your joystick output DX commands for the button you are pressing (instead of keystrokes) which is done entirely in the profiling software. Once your joystick stops pretending it’s a keyboard and remember it’s a DirectX device, you go into Falcon setup, click “Trim Up” and then press the button on your joystick you want and it captures it. Repeat for right, down, and left; save .key file; and you’re done.

Can anyone explain simply what they have done to get it work avoiding any jargon. I don’t mind if I use either keyboard directly or the X-52.
Any pointers much appreciated.

Inputting Direct x functions for the unshifted state you have 32 calls if you have that many buttons, triggers, switches.
To set them simply start BMS, go to Setup, controllers, there youll see a list and the file name in green across the very top, first thing to do is to copy it so you can go back if you make a mistake.
Click on Save, in the window that appears change the name like on mine i copied the basic Keypress file and saved it as Gyro.
Click Load to make sure you load whatever you called your keyfile, click OK.
Now you can use that to add the direct x callbacks as they are named, basically its each function, say “Fire Guns” the keypress is “/”, so to add a direct x function to it, just click on the / symbol, it turns light blue then press whichever button on your controller you wish to fire guns. Put it anywhere you want to as long as its a button. so for this example pull the trigger, the letter will go white and under the list when you pull the trigger youll see “Fire Guns” or whatever function you decide to add to whatever key
Now save you file, overwriting your newly created one and it will load when you open the sim next time.
One I found useful as have others is the Comms UHF and Comms VHF buttons.
So lets say you have a spare button thats easy to get at to use as a Push To Talk button, lets do VHF (this could and is the same for any listed function in the table)
To find it in the list, press and hold Alt2 the list should scroll to the Alt 2 listing which is shown as “Voice Comms 2”.
Click on the key sequence next to it so it goes light blue.
Pick your press to talk button on your stick you wish to use and press it, the letter goes white.
Save the keypress file again so now not only do you have a Push to talk button on your stick, but also you can still use Alt 2 to talk on VHF.
Reload the profile after saving its a habit worth getting into.
And there you are need any help on the more advanced settings, consult Red Dogs Callback manual in the docs folder of BMS it looks complicated but its worth looking at I am assured it is accurate up to 95% of functions as updates have been made since it was written.
And always, always keep a record of what functions youve assigned to what key.
Hope thats helped you out.

Big help thanks. Most of that done but the joystick does not seem to want to do the Trim keystrokes whereas everything else ok. Will keep fiddling but at least got the basic keystrokes working so don’t have to fiddle around at back of cockpit whilst aircraft plunges earthwards!
Better than having to fire missiles in pairs!
-
Make sure that the trim isn’t assigned to any rotaries in the advanced settings.
-
Will do thanks.

Maybe i have similar problem. When i shoot a missile or drop bomb my plane starts rotating left/right. I trying to set trim but no effect. My x52 is set with DX. My friends dont have that problem so i cant understand whats happening.

Need more info. Are you using the trim switches in the cockpit?
-
when you shoot a missile or drop a bomb, rotating is the correct behavior : )
can you post your keyfile? when you press the trim buttons in the setup page of the BMS menu, does it say that the trim is being pressed?
-
There are two sets of trim controls (at least for roll and pitch). One is the primary on the stick and the other is a backup system on the emergency panel and there’s a switch to swap between the two. 99.99% of the time you use the primary system. Perhaps you’re callback’d to the wrong one?

After some screwy behaviour by the Saitek software may finally have got trim working on the joystick… Worked in a test flight - now to test in a campaign mission. Thanks all for help.
Certainly confusing that keyboard guide/ in game config has 2 sets of trim keystrokes without saying why 2.
