Just Starting Out: Trying to get PS3eye working
-
Make sure in CL-Eye Test that you set the resolution and FPS, it is under Options Menu , Video Capture Pin.
Run mine at 640x480 @ 75FPS and it works great. -

I have the “bad lenses” version of ps3eye, removing the ir-filter/block lenses did distort the focus, so i had to reinstall it & heightened ampere on the LED. I set the video capture to 640x480 30fps @about 60cm(ps3eye-led) to make the ps3eye easier to detect my LED. I also have cl-eye-driver 5.3.0.0341 running well on my pc.
I think it’s easier for you to start from swapping USB port and then to exclude software(driver/OS) fault before hardware.
PS: Sorry for my english -
Thanks everyone for the help/suggestions. When i get home today I am going to mess around with it, and see if i cant get it working. I’ll let you all know how it goes.

So I figured out what the problem was. The Ps3eye is not like a normal webcam in that it uses a ton of USB bandwidth. Because of this it can cause DPC latency issues. I downloaded a program called latency mon and it told me what was causing the latency issues. Apparently, outdated drivers (WiFi card driver, gpu drivers, motherboard drivers etc) can cause a problem, and make the video capture choppy. I found that my brand new out of the box pc had an outdated WiFi adapter driver, and an old Nvidia driver. Updated those, and now we are rocking. Now I just have to get that IR filter out.

This is one of the best guides I have seen around - https://forum.il2sturmovik.com/topic/34403-a-complete-guide-to-set-up-head-tracking-opentrack/
Maybe it will help getting you up and running quicker.
Also, on the IR filter, never removed the one on my camera, but I did splurge and spent $15 on a true 850nm IR pass filter for a 27mm camera and mounted that to the camera.
Once adjusted the camera and tracking have been fantastic. -
Thanks for all the help guys. I got it all up and running today. Now on to the training tactical engagements.

What was the problem with it? I have mine working really well now. I just had to deal with the latency issues.

What latency issue?

What latency issue?
My system was having a DPC latency issue brought about by some drivers (WiFi adapter, gpu, etc) that need updated. I found that this could be an issue on Code Laboratories website. My cam was freezing up and being jumpy. When I fixed the DPC latency issues it worked great.

I am using ps3eye(modified by me) with track clip pro and opentrack as software for 5 years. Not even a problem till now. Not even a broken track clip pro!

I just wanted to give a quick how to on the PS3 eye, because I see a lot of misinformation. And I went thru a lot of it on my journey to build my own IR clip.
For starters, if you have an IR remote control, like for your TV, turn on your PS3 eye with the CL-Eye Test program, aim the remote at the camera and press some buttons. If you can see the IR led in the remote showing up in your PS3 Eye cam, you are perfectly fine. You don’t need to remove any “filter”. I read so much about how I had a “bad version” of the PS3 eye because the filter was near impossible to remove, but that’s simply not true.
So if your PS3 eye can see the IR light on your remote control, then you are fine. I was able to use Opentrack and with some settings on the PS3 eye, was able to use my IR clip. I did have to do it in a low light situation, which wasn’t great. You’ll then read to cut a floppy disk, or some exposed film (btw- who still has either of these things in 2019?) and use it for a way to block normal light. I tried that, but it really doesn’t work nearly as well as they make it out to be. The solution is to use a true IR Filter, as in one used for cameras. I’ll link below the one I used, and it’s perfect. I can’t stress enough how well it does work. It blocks out ALL light below 720nm, so ONLY your IR lights are seen by the PS3 eye and the Opentrack software. I use it in a well lighted room with zero issues. Again, it’s perfect. Sure it’s, $13, but IMO it’s well worth it as it works so well and makes using your IR Clip with a PS3 Eye cam easy.

That’s a 25mm lens, it fits well (not perfectly) over the PS3 eye lens. I used a hot glue gun to secure the lens, and viola!
