Staying under the radar.
-
I have been running some test in Dogfight>Team Furball which I have read afterward is best to keep these test in campaign/TE because they work differently.
The purpose of my thread or what I hope to accomplish with this is sharing of techniques, and knowledge in staying off of other aircraft FCR,/RWR and to better understand how invisible I really am in their perspective/cockpit.
I have some interesting results from my test as follows.
MODE:
DOGFIGHT>TEAM FURBALL
sunny and clear
Placed map over ocean
ECM off
6 all aspect IR missiles.
1v1 against F-15c.
40 nm seperation
Test 1
RWR beeps 15 diamond*I dive and instantly turn RF switch to silent
*Turn off formation lightsSteer toward RWR diamond below 500’ and begin looking for the Eagle
As SOON as I see him WVR a missile is in my ass.
–-------------------------------------
Test 2(Same as test 1)RWR warns me with the 15 diamond
This time I turn off RWR as well as all switches in relation
any kind of radar or transmission.Result - Never seen him, boom im dead.
Test 3
~NO RWR DIAMOND~
REPEAT a mix of test 1,and 2Steer towards his direction spot him…
He is clueless at about 12k I pop up
Steer to his 6’ and he still has no idea
Move in to about 4 miles he suddenly
Wakes up and jukes,I lock him with IR
Tone and fire. This was awesome. I felt like Sam Fisher in the shadows a knife vs a gun silent kill bad assery
I repeat a few of these where he has no idea I was there so long as I dont get the beep beep on the RWR I can go silent and sneak in,if I pop in with RWR warning me he knows exactly where im at everytime.
I would like to better understand a few things
*Does RWR in other aircraft detect me in RF silent ?.
*Does my RWR give away my postition. ?
*If im flying power off to these transmissions
Do I still become a search target on their FCR ?
(White blip non lock)My understanding is these systems detect radar transmissions NOT my physical aircraft
*If I don’t get a RWR warning does this mean he is on silent or how is he ghosting my RWR in some situations.
-
if I get the RWR diamond is this because he merely has his radar is just ‘ON’ or is this an indication his radar is beaming my aircraft.
-
Would this work against enemy AWACS
Please share some insight. I find this tactic not only useful ,but pure awesome to get the result of tagging an enemy while he has no idea I was there.

RWR is totally passive. It emits nothing. FCR is like your sonar, RWR is like your headphones.

Hey Quicksilver. Some answers to your questions.
*Does RWR in other aircraft detect me in RF silent ?.
No-as long as your radar is not emitting, then AI will not “register” anything on their RWR.*Does my RWR give away my postition. ?
Nope - Your RWR is completely passive. It only picks up radar emissions.*If im flying power off to these transmissions
Do I still become a search target on their FCR ?
(White blip non lock)
Yes - While an F-16 has some “stealth” in its design, there is no way you can evade a radar energy from lighting you up…especially an F-15’s radar. In your 3rd test you finally caught onto something by managing to evade in the opposite direction of which the radar was pointing, therefore you didn’t show up and the F-15 was “blind”.My understanding is these systems detect radar transmissions NOT my physical aircraft
*If I don’t get a RWR warning does this mean he is on silent or how is he ghosting my RWR in some situations.
If you don’t get a warning, the radar energy isn’t hitting the RWR receivers. Or in a simpler way…your adversary is pointing away from you, or he is “cold”. I don’t believe “RF Silent” is in AI’s code.* if I get the RWR diamond is this because he merely has his radar is just ‘ON’ or is this an indication his radar is beaming my aircraft.
A diamond is generally a bad sign! You should also get a specific noise associated with that specific radar your adversary has. This means he has you locked up and maneuvering to shoot.
If you see a # with a “^” on top of it, that just means it is an aircraft and his radar is emitting radiation that your RWR receivers are picking up. Or…he is “hot”/pointing towards you.* Would this work against enemy AWACS
You can give it a shot (so to speak), but all modern day radars have very good doppler capabilities, or “look-down/shoot-down” ability where it can determine what is a jet fighter and what is a tree. And the developers of BMS have taken great strides in modeling this type of radar detection. The best way to surprise your opponent is to put your wingman out there as “bait”. While your adversary is looking at your wingman you generally are free to maneuver for a clear shot. This also can happen to you, so never get target fixated. The Iraqi’s did this to great effect against the Iranians during the Iran/Iraq War of the 80’s.
Clear as mud?? …I hope.
Cheers,

Thank you both so much that pretty much covered it all. Now I at least know I need to read up on my RWR symbology.
I understand the picture now much better than before. Now need to see if AI wingman can play cat and mouse.
