HOW to approach the ground target: flying high or low?
-
Green light is jammer active. Jammer voice is an incentive.
ty lorik, let me say if i have understood, so… if i ear the voice say Jammer, i have to activate the jammer with the J key?

Fiffinolmo, may I suggest p 116-118 in the “Dash-34 manual”, in your Docs folder. And, yes" J "does start the jammer, as does the more realistic CMDS down, as long as the jammer power switch is on

If you also think it’s a good idea, yes. Again Sa-6, 10, 11,17, you shouldn’t.

Good Day, Fiffinolmo,
Here’s a couple more tips- if you avoid using AUTO, your expendables last a lot longer. I personally use SEMI- some of us program the CMDS so Prog 1 gives one chaff, and Prog 6 gives one flare. The reason for this is that then CMS forward gives one chaff, and CMS left gives one flare.
- also, setting your HOTAS up so you have the Slap button is a good idea. Slap gives you PROG 6, with you can set up for multiple chaff/flares
Once you start to work with this stuff, you’ll see there is “more then one way to skin a cat”. Hope this helps

Many many thanks, i usually set it on manual, i will try semi and try to understand the behaviour

Compadre, I assume you’re addressing HOJ, but what if you turn off the jammer while Notching? Especially in the Viper, since we’ve heard here the Viper’s pod is for fore/aft coverage.
BTW, a question occurs to me- Is the Hornet’s ASPJ fore/aft, as well? -
I don’t know and am not sure at all front/aft is modeled, and even less it is modeled for HOJ.
Having jammer on with a 6,10, 11 or 17 on you is an insurance for an ejection. I’m not too sure what else is really being discussed.

Some of this is covered in this thread
https://www.benchmarksims.org/forum/showthread.php?36953-Missile-defense-in-4-34/page3&highlight=HOJJammer coverage not modeled in regard to HOJ.

Theres also the fact AUTO isnt modelled properly, so SEMI is the way to go

When to activate the ECM and when it is advisable to switch it off?
I realize that I am approaching the target randomly at the moment, and I would like to understand what to do firstJamming, in BMS has the effect of reducing the distance at which your enemy can lock on, therefore it doesn’t do any good once you get inside a certain distance (depending on the radar) because it “burns through,” the jamming. If you’re attacking a target defended by radar guided weapons, then it might allow you to out range the defenses and attack with impunity! To determine if this is possible, you need to figure out when those defenses will “burn through,” and choose a weapon you can employ from safely beyond that distance (e.g. JSOW).
It’s advisable to turn the ECM pod off when you are fired at by any weapon with home on jam (HOJ) capabilities. There’s two reasons for this: 1) if you’ve been shot at the pod isn’t doing you any good anymore, and 2) the pod will be a magnet for missiles. You might still defeat the missile kinematicly, but it’ll be difficult because if he’s burned through your jamming he’s likely fairly close so the missile has lots of energy. Keeping your distance makes defeating SAMs a lot easier.
