JDAMs not hitting pre-planned targets
-
Hi all,
I have been noticing that my JDAMS are not hitting their pre-planned targets.
I am setting Preplanned Threat Stpts (starting at the default of #56 - in this example I am using #61).
I am targeting HART battalions near the DMZ, so they should be fixed targets.
Then I recon the target, and select a unit which is fairly central so the weapon has a good chance to take out several units, in the screenshot, I have selected a ZIL-131.
I select WPN TGTs, and select Designate as TGT STPT #61, then click Accept.
Then I verify the target is in my DTC as Weapon Target #61 and click Save.
Finally I go back and move the PPT Steerpoint on top of the unit in the 2D map. After doing this, I verify again that the GPS coordinates of the Weapon Target in the DTC has not changed. When I launch the weapon, it sometimes misses by a significant amount, hitting nothing in the targetted battalion. I did this a few times noticing in the debrief that the weapon missed, which I thought was odd. Then I viewed one attempt and the JDAM missed long and to the side, maybe by 200-300m. The weapon was launched just inside the max range envelope, with my heading matching the weapon attack azimuth, in PRE mode.
What could explain the miss? I did make sure that there was no cursor slew at the time (CZ not highlighted, and clicked to be extra sure).

The “Weapon Targets” are only used for a few specific weapons, such as the Israeli Delilah. (maybe even just that one weapon)
To get bombs on coordinates with regular JDAM, you need to use the Target Steerpoints. I think most of us use either STPT 15 - 24, or 91 - 99.
Whatever you choose, though, make sure you never override STPT 25 in the 2D UI, as that is your default Bulls Eye, or any other steerpoint already part of your flight plan (hence why people start at 15, because flight plans don’t usually have that many) unless you only have 1 target to drop bombs on. In that case, you can make the steerpoint a Target Steerpoint with exact coordinates. -
That’s interesting because the weapon did seem to still be “targeting” something. My first attempt I was flying about 30degrees offset from the weapon azimuth and it did the 30 degree turn towards … wherever it ended up.

Spice actually.not the Delilah
there’s a spice training mission to learn how to use them

As Red Dog says. The WPN Target in the 2D recon Screen is for Spice only.
For Delilah you use the the Target Steerpoint as for other JDAMS.
For the Delilah in the End it is the current System SPI at the moment of pickle that is used/set as the weapon SPIGesendet von meinem SM-G930F mit Tapatalk

Like Eagle-Eye said. Use “Target STPT” for explored targets. I use STPT 14 and upwards. For not explored targets i use the mark-function and the TGP to make STPT’s (26-30) and attack them in a second fly by. Troops can move, so make sure they don’t otherwise you have to use Laser Guided Bombs or Cluster Bombs. If you go lower than 10’000ft take care about all sort of AAA and IR-SAM and drop flares preventively.

Thanks guys, I had skipped the Spice training missions so Weapon Targets seemed the obvious choice
