Help With F-18
-
Hi guys
I am trying the F-18 and the Naval Operation. So, to get used to the F-18 I started a campaign in a regular airfield before going on board.
The F-18 payload is amazing.
Still, I have some troubles with F-18: I found the main instrumet panel too high, blocking too much of the front view for my taste. Is that normal or am I spoiled by amazing viper frontview?
…and, for some reason, the HUD marks doesn’t fit inside the frames, most of HUD information remains outside the “frame”. I noticed that the HUD (seens to be) much bigger in the Viper.
Also, I believe I need a Ramp Start guide to F-18. It seems a little diferent from f-16.
Am I doing anything wrong here?Cheers

…you are Viper-spoiled! For one, you probably need to adjust the seat up - way up! If it defaults to the Viper initial position it will probably be too low.
Yes, the difference in forward visibility is going to be way different, and most of that is due to having a windscreen bow in front of you vise being under a bubble canopy; you’re going to have to get used to looking around the bow. You also need to set up your HUD to look like a Hornet HUD - get rid of the moving scales for airspeed and altitude, and have the numbers in boxes only. A RL Hornet HUD combining glass(es) is actually a bit smaller than a viper one - particularly at the bottom, because they don’t taper - but it does sound like it’s not drawn correctly.
Because the BMS Hornet is really a Viper in a dress, the start sequence has not much to do with a RL checklist…so you’ll have to consult the manual, if it’s detailed there at all.

Thanks… I guess I have been spoiled a little, really :bounce:

Hi,Sasah,
As Stevie said, the Hornet does not have “Viperesk” visability. Also, in 4.35 the top of the ejector seat is wider then before. As far as the HUD fitting the frame, and assuming you’re using TrackIR, an old trick is to set F12, lean back, and F12 again. When you return forward the HUD is in the frame. With a bit of experimentation, it becomes second nature. -

I will try that.
