Which windows does work better for bms: xp, 7 or 8 ?
-
Thanks for all the replies, guys.
I have just installed bms4.32 under win7/64.
With the same hardware, I get 60-70 fps.
That is an increase compared to xp.
With xp, I only get 40-50 fps. -
I’m on Vista 64 bit (still)
FPS avg between 85 (heavy duty) and above 200 (light duty)
That said: it’s not (well, most of it that is) about the OS
Regards,
FanWould agree with that. Me thinks graphics driver and CPU speed/clock setting as well as HDD>MB>RAM frequency is key.
I run Win7 64bit and wouldn’t expect much of a difference with 8. XP or 8 will only be faster if the hardware is struggling with Win7 system resource grabbing, in that dept. 8 seems a bit more optimized and XP is pretty much not even there on modern hardware.

Hi Uwe,
Thanks for the reply.
can you explain more clearly what do you mean exactly by “clean”? -
The Win7 being faster in Falcon4BMS is quite established information. A great number of falconeers have witnessed it. Yes, a clean system might help. But there is something in the OS that changes things.
Not so much difference between Win7 and Win8.

Win 8.1 here and works flawlessly

Hi Uwe,
Thanks for the reply.
can you explain more clearly what do you mean exactly by “clean”?Well, for starters you should be using a properly licensed windows[1] installation, not something that came pre-installed with your laptop / ready-made gaming box with tons of add-ons, tryware, “essential virus protection” that starts nagging for a purchase after a 30 day trial and so on.
Also, you should be careful about what kind of software you install and what kind of links you click on. If you use the box only for gaming, you won’t need antivirus, personal / windows firewalls (your NATting router will be doing a proper job of this already) or windows defender that will kick in during vital parts of your flight and ruin your approach by sending fps to hell at a critical time.
All the best, Uwe
1: I’m no fan of Microsoft and prefer Linux for my productivity stuff, but if you can afford it by a proper windows license that you can install, re-install & activate cleanly from time to time.

Forget about xp…
Put on a 64 bit 7/8.1 and you are good to go. (Don’t bother with 32 bit systems, worthless with high amount of RAM) -
I have it on both 7 and 8 (my laptop is 8.1) and it works fine with both. The 8.1 does seem a bit less stable once you start adding mods/theaters.
