Cougar & Realsimulator update

Hello, did anyone try the FSSB-R3 lightning base instead of the original cougar base, does the stick fit on it at all?

Not personally but I know Users that have the FSSB Ligning with Cougar Grip as well as with Warthog Grip
If my X65F Force sensing will ever die the FSSB would be my replacement but I would go all in with the Realsim Grip

would you get the realsim grip in addition to the cougar grip? the cougar grip is all metal by the way

I have the FSSBR3L and originally used it with the warthog grip but then upgraded to the real simulator grip only because the warthog grip was never designed for the pressures that having the force sensing grip require. So the neck of the warthog isn’t strong enough and becomes loose and is very noticeable when used with the FSSBR3L base.

I cannot say I have experienced this problem myself…

I’ve read a lot about this, and fixes for it - the metal in the Cougar and WH grips is a bit soft, and the RealSim ones being engineered for use with a force-sensing base from the start is a really valid point. The thing I don’t like about the RealSim grip are all the extra 5-way switches where they should only be single press action. Other than that, they look to rock.
It depends on how much use you put on the system really…and which one you are using. I have an FC3 and a RibbStick and I could see it being possible to over-muscle the RibbStick. I’m already planning a reinforcing collar or to build a more supportive attach mount nut for my WH grip.

I’ve been using the FSSBR3 since March and it’s been great. Been using it with the Cougar stick and no issues.

It’s a log-term thing, so you haven’t been at it long enough to notice. I just took a grab at my Cougar stick/FCC3 combination, and it’s a bit rocky in both pitch and roll axes. Can feel it “bump”. Been about 5-6 years that I’ve had it in this config.

a bit Comparing apple with oranges as FCC3 is not FSSBR3

I have the FSSB R2 on my Cougar base (but using a Warthog grip on it) … no issues since I have it (2006).
However, to prevent any possible breakup in the future, I bought this recently : https://www.aliexpress.com/i/1005001556985908.html

Wow 11$ for a 3d printed part that not more than 5 cents of material cost. I might produce those and sell them for half the price

do you think the same thing will happen with the cougar?
-
It also depends on your force sensing settings as you can go from as low as just registering a slight touch wich your fingertip as up to having to pull as in a workout

does the fssb-r3l have the option of small play around the center?

Same situation in principle…and the metal in the grip doesn’t change - that is the weak link.
-
does the fssb-r3l have the option of small play around the center?
And that’s another part of the problem - the smaller you make the play, the more pronounced and noticeable the wobble around 0-0 becomes. It’s fine inputs that suffer.
Given that most of the people I read/follow are cockpit builders, they tend to try and set up realistic input pulls - like 25 lbf in pitch for full “deflection”. However, it’s real easy to exceed 25 lbf if you get into the sim and your adrenaline is pumping - especially if you are new to it.
-
and what about emulation files, I currently have Cougar_DX files downloaded to the foxy what will be the alternative file for FSSB-R3L?
-
There aren’t any “files” per se with RealSim gear - RealSim hardware is managed using the HID_DEV_TOOL and DCC, found here -
https://realsimulator.com/downloads/
You can download and install to take a look at the interface, but you will have to set up all of your assignments using the RealSim tools. Not a big deal, as the RealSim software is very well done - I use it with my TUSBA R2. In fact…now that I think about it a bit, I may have double assignments in my interface…it works, but I don’t think I could tell you just what/which BMS is actually using for my TQS assignments - BMS Setup or RealSim…but it works.
Edit: their documentation is most excellent too. Check the Users Manual, starting on page 126. Pages 126 through 141 specifically address setting up a Cougar or Warthog stick grip for BMS with the FSSB-R3. (I’ve almost talked myself into buying one of these…)
