CH pedals - Left toe brake died..
-
The toe brake pots are fairly new, but I swapped it out with a couple spares, nada. All three wires are intact and don’t appear broken where they go below the pedals. I guess I can dissasemble the lower part but as these are about 20 years old is it possible the controller mainboard is just dying? Every other function is fine…. and its not like it got flaky and then died, one minute they were fine, next minute no output…

No idea how it broke here, but it did! All fixed, routed the wires a little better, works perfectly again…
-
Just FYI, mine died too and the wire was sheared off. They are extremely thin and frail.

Thanks for this post. My pedals have also lasted a very long time. Good to know that there could be a fix if they stop working.

Ditto on the thanks - I’ll use you info to go look inside mine now!

it’s a very simple mechanism, still no idea how the wire got sheared but I did reposition everything and lock all the wires down where they belong. Hopefully another 20 years before they break again…

On my really old rudder pedals, close to 20 years old, have had several wires break. My black wires has been replaced by a 254 mm section of aircraft wired coloured black with a sharpie due to repeated breaks. I think the wiring in these pedals is very frail and tends to work harden through the movement in the pedals. I see similar wiring failures in the real-life aircraft I maintain at work. I am really considering replacing my pedals with the Thrustmaster Elite Pedals, but it is really hard to pay $125 for what looks like a less reliable component. Well, at least scrap wiring is free at work…

My issue with replacements is my Next Level Racing \ Flight sim stand. It simply isn’t wide enough for any of the high end rudder pedal sets!

I know a guy that has one of these rigs, which he’s mounted a Recaro set in -
https://www.monster.tech/en/product-category/flight-en/sim-rig-f-en/
Expensive, but simply stunning! I have a feeling though that one could build one of these setups from aluminum extrusion themselves, for considerably less. Which I may end up doing for a generic “desktop” setup…
BTW - both he and his WIFE are both heavy into flight simming - I wish she had a sister…

If Next Racing had done proper research they would have known a stand sold for flight sims needed to be about 20cm wider at the base to fit ANY rudders other than CH… lucky thats what I had when I got it.

The Monstertech stuff is actually made from aluminum extrusion, and what you’re paying for is the cutting and powder coating. But you can do that yourself, WAY cheaper using CNC linear rail - that’s all it is, and you can even get it in black if you want:

…looks like Open Builds is out of stock just now, but I’ve bought quite a bit of stuff frm them in building my own CNC router. I’m a huge fan of building with linear rail. And you can buy just the controller mounts. DIY, custom build, get just what you want…for less.
